Better to start with a single coil. With duals it easy to way undershoot the resistance you were aiming for. Could cause a problem with your battery or spring. Also with one coil you don't have to worry about getting coils identical so they are balanced.

edit: What attys do you have that are setup for duals and will fit in the Reo?

I have Phoenix clones V2 & V5 I think and I don't own a Reo yet so I don't know if they'll fit.

So, a nice 10-12 wraps of the 30g will net you 2-2.3 ohms. A 10-12 wrap of the 28 would be around . . .. um . . . . 1.2-1.5 . . .?

good places to start, methinks

I think I'll start with the 30 and see how that goes :) I'm planning on wrapping around a 1/16th" drill bit. Will that leave me a big enough hole for the cotton?

The hole is big enough, but lighted magnification makes it so much easier. If you can't get light magnification, at least get some kind of magnification. Once you tighten the cotton by rolling it between your fingers, you'll be fine, just get it through and then pull. I don't know your eye sight, but I'm 51 and there are some much older than me who do it all the time. You'll be fine.

I'm 49 so I'm probably right there with ya in the eyesight department.

Just turned 52 here. Eyesight is still good except for the close in stuff I need reading glasses. Getting old is like a crappy dessert after a fine meal. If your eyes are like mine then do yourself a favor and grab some of these or something similar:

2 LED Light Headband Head Glasses Magnifier Reading Antiques Jewelry Stamp Repair Tools 4 Lenses - Amazon.com

One of the most handy items I ever spent 13 bucks on. Four lenses, and you can still wear glasses behind them. The 1.8x lens hits the sweet spot for my coil building.

I'm damn near 73 and I can roll a micro that'll stand up to anything these young whippersnappers like p-dibbage and Stratacastout, vapalicious and that dark jeezy can muster up.

Looky here at this bad mamma jamma I spun up out on the porch just now
2ypyvydu.jpg

I rolled it under the glow of a bug zapper and my colonel klink eyeglass.

Then I went inside and wrecked the bed with mamma, letting my wick get good and saturated.

Damn near soiled myself when I hit that there micro coil too.

Just kidding. I'm really 46, but my vision is almost as lacking as my patience. I rely on lighted magnification. :)

wow.. it took me six minutes just to count all them coils, and I set up a floodlight behind me so I can see my screen better. I counted 24.

That was the 18 ga :). It was a challenge to wick. Not impossible, but a challenge. I'm hoping the 17 ga is a tad easier. :)

I like allot o wraps :)

I did a micro coil, last night, 11/12 wraps, pretty close together, I think the jewelers screwdriver is 1/16, 30 ga Kanthal, that measures 1.76 ohms. Coils are not right up against post. When I do 10 wraps they measure around 1.5. I guess I need to find out for sure just what size my jewelers screwdriver is.
