I think I'll start with the 30 and see how that goes :) I'm planning on wrapping around a 1/16th" drill bit. Will that leave me a big enough hole for the cotton?

I'll be 64 in a few days. I had 20/10 vision till my early 40's when bam, overnight, I thought I was going blind. I was in school at the time with hours of reading to do daily. I see much better with my prescription readers, with no need for jeweler's magnification, that account for some slight astigmatism than the best store bought. I can do it with the cheap readers but I don't always hit the micro coil hole first time. Good lighting is essential if your sight is not fully corrected by readers. Good lighting, even with corrected vision, works better for me. It's not making the coil, shoot I can do that with my eyes closed, it's getting wire in holes fast and threading the cotton.

Here's a pic of the cheap, cheap jeweler's screwdriver I use for micro coils along side a 1/16 drill bit. It's hard to compare due to different colors and shadows. They may not be exact size but very close. There are no markings on screwdriver or box it came in. I used a jewelers lens to inspect them closely but it's still hard to judge. I can't find my digital mini calipers. (I'm leaning towards drill bit being a smidgen larger but wouldn't bet on it from this visual inspection. That probably makes the screwdriver metric but not sure what size it is.)

westamyx, send me your mailing address & I'll send you some 1/16" (.0625") & .055" music wire.

This is what I use to wrap my coils. I can add the bends to them if you'd like or just send you straight pieces. The bends makes them easier to hold (the one with the funny looking bend is what I use to twist wire). I clamp them in a hobby vise which gives me better control when wrapping them.

Gig, that's allot of cotton in there bro. If the performance wanes prematurely, you can try to keep the wick thickness the same for the entire length of the wick, rather than ballooned out once it leaves the coil. That'll improve it greatly.

Nice coil bro :)

Thank you. I'm getting about 5 or 6 good hits before I have to reload my juice. I started with the cotton twisted the entire length, but it unrolled on me rather quickly. The flavor is pretty good, although until I make another one, I don't really have anything to compare it to ;)

Hey many thanks. Will get PM started but may have an extended interruption and delayed. Really appreciate. :)

When I first started using RBAs I did some 32 ga double twist by hand, really tight. Pretty time consuming and hard on arthritis. Stopped doing it once I got in 30 ga. I'm game for another go at it if only I can wiggle out some spare time to vape play.

Damn. Just wrapped up a couple of coils on my RM2s with some new wire and blunt tips. Details after this statement

HOW THE HELL DO YOU GUYS VAPE MICRO COILS AT OR BELOW 1 OHM?

Here's the deal:

Grand:
27ga Kanthal A1 around a 17 ga blunt tip. 14 wraps 1.26 ohms. Damn that's a warm vape. And I can hear an after sizzle when I let off the trigger. Cool.

VV Grand:
27ga Kanthal A1 around a 17 ga blunt tip. 12 wraps 1.10 ohms. I did it smaller so I can turn down the power on my VVG if its too hot. Even with the power all the way down its hot.

I think I like the thick wire and I definitely like the 17 ga needles (they're also 1/2" barrel - real twist friendly compared to the 1.5" barrels)

Thanks to all you kids who started teasing me with fatter wire. I like it allot. You punks rule.

But still, how does anyone enjoy the vape on a coil this small and tight at the 1 ohm (or below) mark? Whatcha trying to do, breathe fire like a dragon?

I'll post some pix I took of the builds later. :)
Gotta go play some black ops II with my son. I'm super_X_drifter on XBL too game boys. :)

I'm playing blops2 daily, gonna have to add you (if that's cool of course). Although my headset has been missing since I moved a couple months ago.

I like it below 1.0 because I'm used to it with my iGoL types where the juice is so close to the coil; it WILL wick fast enough for that heat.
Instant gratification.

I've found that if the coil is high and relys on the wick to bring up the juice, it will scorch at that heat.
The RM2 is close enough imo for sub 1.0 ohms.

Thats why I'm waiting for my 26, 27 gauge k and nichrome.... lots of wraps for about .7 to .9 Ohms.

Just coiled my new RM2, eight wraps of 27 ga and I'm happy. I like a warm vape from a fast coil. Six second draws just suck (pun intended).

I love my new Reo but the guy I bought it from was vaping some awful stuff. Kept getting more of that flavor so I took it apart and cleaned again. Replaced the feed tube and bottle to get rid of it. Is it worth trying to salvage the tube and bottle or just toss?

I just made a 1.2 ohm coil using 28g Kanthal and 9 wraps. I used a 1.1mm sewing needle to wrap it around. It turned out to be way too small of a diameter. The cotton wasn't wicking well on my igo-L. I tried adjusting the coil as low as possible (the photo was taken before it was adjusted) but it just wouldn't wick. It made for a great vape for about 1 four second long drag. I wish I had made the coil for my RM2, it would have been killer on that. Tomorrow when I get more juice at work, I will likely build another one like it for my RM2.

Same thing happened to me I couldn't get cotton to work on my Igo L either.
I got the cotton to work with the RM2.

1.1mm (.043") is pretty tiny. The smallest I wrap around is .055". I've done .05" & had to use very little cotton to wick properly but it's very easy to singe cotton as you really have to be cautious to keep it wet all the time. I find there's not much advantage wrapping around anything smaller than .055". And with guages lower than 28 I only wrap around 1/16".

yes toss, most juice will permeate the plastic... don't forget when you choose a juice... don't use volatile based flavors that will deteriorate the plastic.
