I do 8-9 wraps of 29g and get 1.6-1.7 ohms. Try it with a few less wraps to lower your resistance, unless you've got VV. then just crank it up util you like it.

edit: Longer legs to get it closer to airhole changes things too. You're gonna have to experiment to find what's perfect for you.

I REALLY think I prefer the 8 wraps over the 11-12 wraps. I mean it's fine but not as warm and I think I prefer the warmer vape.

I will try that when I change my wick next time and see if I get a better vape.
Looks nice Sennie. If you fire the coils red & quickly squeeze em together w/tweezers as soon as you release the button (before/while they cool off) they'll stay tite.

lol nope!! It's fun, I enjoy it, and like that my family thinks I am smart because I can!! hahahahaha And yes, after he shorted out and flattened 2 springs in less than 5 minutes I make them myself now!! lol
Damn Sennie, your coil wrapping skillz have come along way in a very short time :). Did you ever see yourself doing that, let alone successfully, say 4 weeks ago?

I can see that you have taken over for the Marvin and you are doing wonderfully :)

so it's better to be closer to the ceramic without touching?

So, I'm getting into this micro coil thing. I'm really loving the concept, but having a little bit of a hard time getting it all going. I think one of my problems is the diameter of the needle I'm wrapping it around. Is there a standard gauge of needle tip bottle topper, or do they all come in different sizes? I hear you all using 14, 16, 18 ga needles and I'm not sure which one I have. I also don't have anything to measure that small or any drill bits for a perfect measurement.(Living alone, not too much money for tools as recently it's all been going to vaping). Is there a place you all prefer to buy your needles that I should get on for standardization of size? I really want to experience this vaping glory that you all have been getting into. Thanks!

Edit: Yay 100 posts! Slightly less new to ECF!

Duff, you can also use a 1/16" drill bit, a small finishing nail or a very thick paper clip. Usually anything smaller than 1/16" diameter is more hassle than its worth in both wrapping and wicking. Anything larger is just seems awkward, however, i recommend a minimum of a 14ga mold anyone new to the RBA game.

Lets see some pix of your set up once you get it set up :)

compare to round toothpick, or just use round toothpick. I hear that's about 1/16"

pdlib, I thought they were close in size also, but this picture does not due justice to the size difference! I mean, I made my first coil easily with the tooth pick, but looking at the 1/6 drill, I'm wondering how I'm going to get a wick in it. 20130712_213810.jpg

Which do you guys prefer?
The VV Reo Grand or just the Reo Grand?
I have a Provari and a Reo Grand but I want to order a backup Reo.
I like the ease with the normal Grand, just clean it up every so often lol.
I think I probably will go with another Grand normal.
good question...
since this is a micro coil thread i assume you are making your own coils for the atomizer on your Reo, so imo it depends on what resistance you will be happy with.
I mean you have a range of resistances for the normal, but with the VV you can go higher...
If i had a VV (sold mine a long time ago), i'd only have one if i wanted to make i.e. 2.2 Ohms or more... otherwise I'm more than satisfied with the normal.

When all else fails, go back and READ what the Guru says! I have had my RM2s for almost a month now, and haven't had trouble making coils on a small screwdriver (Stanley says #0 on the handle) or wicking them. But, sometimes they would be good, sometimes they would make me cough. I would go back and remake them, sometimes they were fine, sometimes they still made me cough. SO, went to the hardware store yesterday and got a pack of 1/16th drill bits. Took an hour this morning, and re-made all my coils. Each measured between 1.73 and 1.79, which is where I want them, and Lo and Behold! No coughing, excellent flavor, tons of wonderful luscious vapor. You'd think that my my age I would learn to pay attention to the directions, but no, not me! Lesson learned (this time) SuperX is The Guru when it comes to RBAs. Thank You Sir!!!

Being one of the longest holdouts moving to rolled cotton twist and micro coil (natural fibers tried in past on several RBAs but gunking juice required a coil dryburn at least once daily and nothing threads through coil as fast and easily as the rolled cotton - no magnification needed other than readers, too) I'm thrilled to report that I got two whole days before dryburn needed using micro coil and rolled q-tip cotton!!!!! That's about 9ml juice.

Amazing thing, and to be expected when thought about, is that dryburn goes so fast (and less stress on battery, especially 14500) because not having to degunk silica wick (and others) that can take 4-5 X 20-30 second pulsing cycles and sometimes more. With bare coil usually two at most does the job.

I'm ecstatic!!! Thanks X and Okie and all others for leading the way.

I'm seeing first hand that the micro coil is what is essential for longevity of cotton wick at least for my gunking juice.

I first tried the cotton yarn and hated it. It would gunk within a few hours and the flavor was muted. So I dismissed cotton pretty quickly. But then after reading some of super's posts I went and bought some of the CVS rolled sterile cotton and man-o-man, it opened up a whole new experience. It the only thing I use now. I even got my son to put it in his tanks and it's working our really well. I like that its natural also.
