So.... I was on another thread here talking about wicks etc.comparing cotton to XC 132/116. In the thread trail people were saying they made cotton "bedding" and put it UNDER the coil instead of string thru the coil and have good results. I have been doing 2 setups. My "road" REO has a microcoil with XC132 wick and my "home" mini woody has micro/cotton wick. I like the XC when away as it is indestructable and never have to worry about rewicking on the road and burning out my cotton wick by lack of sqounking etc. Then I have the cotton at home as I like the flavor and vapor it produces and change wick when changing flavors. ANYWAYS... I was fiddling around and decided to try a Hybrid wick! I took a tiny bit of cotton and placed it UNDER my XC132 wick/microcoil. Just off to the side of the drain hole and under and along the coil. not alot of cotton just enough so it cradles the coil. I gave it a good squonl to soak both the cotton and XC, let drain and vaped. Well, I definately noticed a difference! Can't quite explain it but the vape takes a little longer to to start pluming clouds but when it does it's very thick, smooth, and flavorful. I found I had to take longer drags but the taste, warmth, and smoothness was very good! Seems like the best of both worlds, absorbant wicking material of cotton and indestructablility of XC. I found it was easier to keep the cotton wet as well as to not burn up like inside the coil.
So, just wanted to share. Not saying it will knock your socks off but it was a fun experiment.
putting a bit under the wick will also reduce the base notes of the flavor by blocking air under the coil. It will accentuate the sweeter notes of the flavor, but will lower TH and the darker side of certain flavors
your descriptions sound like a sommelier or whatever thay call those professional wine tasters!!
i did notice less throat hit but warmer smoother flavor.
