Ok, now it really is my turn. Went to CVS to pick up the magic X rolled cotton today. Had an IGO-L laying around so I figured I'd set this one up for a new dripper. Made a true micro coil with 28 awg 10 wraps @ 1.1Ω. Loaded it with the cotton & juice, fired it and......

......

...... Sorry, nic buzz, hold on.....

......

...... Sorry, can't see, too much vapor.....

......

Dayum, this is nice!!! I think I need to add a couple of more coils or so for higher res. Luckily I got some lower nic in my usual flavors on it's way. I haven't singed the cotton yet but I just wish singeing wasn't an issue so I could put this setup in my daily Reo Mini, don't want to risk it yet. Definitely going to have to try this in my Grand one day.

Look ma, no holes...
Img_4006_zps06d8d940.jpg

If you didn't notice, I drilled holes in the posts for the wires & without removing the posts from the base as I normally would do. To anyone who wants to try, I used my mill, I wouldn't recommend trying this with a drill press unless you really know what you are doing. I was surprised to find that the posts are stainless steel.

You'll also need a spotting drill before trying to drill the holes. Drill at the fastest speed your drill press or mill spindle can go. I used a #71 carbide bit. I was going to go smaller but when you get into drill sizes this small, one sneeze or excessive runout will snap the bit in less than a blink of an eye.

Beautiful build Zero. That atty looks great too. Cotton does kick some booty don't it? :)

Thanks X & thank you for your micro threads. The rolled cotton really is the shiz. I kept thinking about cotton balls, didn't expect this when I opened it. A box will seriously last forever even if I changed wicks everyday.

My twisted mini coil with Ekowool vapes almost as good, very close in vapor. But the ekowool can't keep up if chained vaped. Ekowool has good flavor but the cotton tastes even better. It really does wick like crazy. This would perfect for dripping new or changing flavors too. I don't have to mess with drying out the wick by vaping or rinsing it, just pull the wick & put a new one in.

Well I felt a need to give this a try. I usually set my drippers up with 3/4 of .5 ribbon and cotton yarn. I had an extra phoenix clone laying around so I did 9 wraps around a 3/32 drill bit. I did some test fires and it glows low and even. I'm not sure if this qualifies as a micro coil but, it's my first try. I have some Agent Orange soaking into the cotton right now. I figured it would be good to test it this way because I have been vaping AO all day on my normal setup so this should be a good comparison. I'll make another post later after I test it. I always let my cotton soak for at least 30mins, but usually overnight. I can't wait to try this, so I'll be testing in 30 mins.

My first attempt was a failure. Vapor production was very good, but the flavor was ultra muted. I'm also used to about a 2-4 second draw with my normal setups and with this I had to take 6-8 second draws. I have a ton of twisted 30g laying around, maybe I'll try that next. Anyone else have flavor muting problems? I'll try a rebuild soon. If at first I don't succeed....

I haven't had muting problems, but once I got the hang of it I notice different flavors in all of the juices I've tried so far.

What are you using for wicks? Maybe that will change things. The cotton really does work surprisingly well.

Got my 2nd attempt at a micro coil touching. Rolled it about 10-12 times around a jeweler's screwdriver, making sure each coil is next to the other. It tested at 3 ohms! So I undid a few coils and it tests at 2.5 ohms. I can't be more than 8 coils of 30 awg kanthal so I was expecting it to test a bit lower.

Put the silica I saved that came with an Igo-L through it but I felt it sat too lose, so I threaded in some 1.5 ekowool that fit nicely snug. Think it vapes a bit too cool on a mech mod and heats up too slowly. Not performing as well as my other Igo-L with 4 freehand wraps of 30 awg around a piece of silica testing at 1.5 ohms but going to keep at it.

I'm going to shoot for sub 2ohms on my next micro coil and gonna grab me some of that sterile cotton!

Using 90% VG juice with microcoils running at 1.6 ohms. My vapor is ****ing huge! Not as impressive as the sub-ohm vapers you see in youtube, but still impressive (for me at least). Taste: 0. TH: 0. Vapor: +9,000. Then again, I used 0 nic, followed a PG recipe, and used distilled water to thin it down.

For the people who change wicks daily, do you let the wicks soak for a little? And if so how long?

I use peaches and cream cotton yarn. With 90% VG juice, I see no wicking problem with a minute of soaking. However, I drip, so I don't know how it would translate to using a clearomizer.

I use 30g kanthal and 14 wraps gets me about 2 ohms. Maybe it's your connection?

If you're using that on your mech then that's the problem. The high ohm coils are meant for regulated mods. Throw that same atomizer on your provari and crank it up to 6v. You should have a completely different experience with the provari. I got a few micros to work with my mech but it wasn't easy. You spend more time trying to find the right diameter than anything else. The problem is you're trying to keep it below .9 ohms, but still have a lot of wraps. Even when I got it to work it just doesn't perform like the high ohm micros I built for my regulated device.

I think you nailed it. 2.5 ohms is way too high for a mech. After reading your response I popped it on a provari at 4.5 and it's way better!
