Just FYI, I decided not to post pics of my chimney build on the Russian. It SUCKED! It may be because I used Rayon, but I kept getting little droplets of juice in my mouth even running at 11 watts, and I didnt get as much vapor. The coil was perfect, so maybe next time ill try with cotton.

For now im going to kick back on a horizontal build which vapes great...

Yeah , building a vertical is not difficult , it's the wicking of it that can be tricky.

Yup , tons of info about Rayon safety , i'm not worried about it after reading all the information about it. When ECF posted info about the possible dangers of high wattage vaping it got my attention, nothing proven either way but i stay pretty low wattage anyway , even with the Magma .

I was surprised that the MVP set at 10 or 11 watts with a 30 or 32 gauge coil will light up plenty fast enough to get a very satisfactory vape with the Magma . Stick to single coil no larger than 3/32 though. Granted a dna 30 type device is more appropriate for dripper's but it's not a must .
Yeah, Ive read quite a bit of the thread I posted and I think Rayon is prolly fine. I would imagine 10.5-11 watts is not enough to really be dangerous.

Totally on 30 gauge in terms of warmup time. My coil starts hitting hard within a second- my current setup with rayon seems similar to the hit of a cig only with more smoke (vapor) due to the high VG content. I actually tried a dual coil 32 gauge build yesterday, but it just took way too long even at 11 watts to warm them up- resulting ohm of the dual coil was 1.5 ohms. Im very happy with the russian and 30 gauge, where with the protank 2 I tend to prefer 32 gauge coils as the 30s dont seem to warm up as fast as they do on the Russian.

@DingerCPA, yeah let us know. Id be especially curious how you wick it. I think Rayon letting go of juice faster than the MVP/coil/11watts was my problem, but I could be wrong. As herb says it seems the wicking is the hardest part with verts.

There's some blog's that show how to wick Kayfun verticals , i am trying to find it.

With rayon, make sure you fit it tighter in the coil than you do with cotton , with cotton you want it to be just snug but not tight , it should move if you pull it . With Rayon (since it shrinks ) and doesn't expand (like cotton does) you want it to be a tighter fit .

Thank you so much for the information.

I know there's a ton of information out there, I don't always search the other forum threads to see if there's already a thread on the subject.
My bad...

I thought I would post it here because this MVP forum moves along at light speed. :matrix:

Folks here are actively using my set up, the same as yours, and I really like the information that this thread has provided. It rocks!!!

On another note...
I'm sorry if I caused you any anguish or paranoia about the safety issue.
I don't want to invoke any thoughts of drones or anything else flying over your house.:)

Nah, I was really more joking/exaggerating the whole Rayon deal. Your question was a good one; considering many of us came to vaping to quit smoking for health reasons (and then find out vaping is better for a lot of reasons), its important people consider any possible unhealthy aspects/choices. Read up on that thread and do some research before you take my word for it :p

@herb, I didnt actually run the wick in the middle- I packed it around the outside of the coil. As far as I understand, thats the only way to wick a chimney build. In terms of horizontal coils, I do have that down. I use much more than cotton- enough where it actually pulls the coil to the side as I work it through (then I straighten it back out). My horizontal rayon coils wick great..

so, any of you familiar with CC Vapes(Crystal Canyon) out of AZ? i've ordered from them three times now, absolutely top notch CS and juice... it's a little pricey though. so, i've been trying to find an alternative to their Mystik RY4(my favorite vape so far), it is very smooth, caramely, nutty goodness. i tried the GWARy4 from MBV and it's not even close, it's not bad mind you, but it's more akin to cocoa than caramel. anyone have any good suggestions for bargain priced RY4 that sounds close to CC Vapes Mystik?

You beat me to it Paul. I have subscribed to Bill's Big RY4 list for a long time. The info is great. He even provides links to reviews and vendors. I personally favor Mr. Vape and Butterfly's for synthetic but those I can get with higher vg. Some don't offer a choice and are higher pg. Check the reviews/descriptions of Mystik and how it is classified (classic or custom) then go look for others with the same basic profile. I am currently into NETs (naturally extracted tobaccos) and his top choices there are wonderful.

Whats everyones preference here in terms of PG vs. VG? Im currently finding that I prefer higher VG for the vapor production.

Its funny- when I started I was all about throat hit. Now, throat hit is meh and I prefer vapor production. The good things about PG are that it seems to provide a little more flavor, it doesnt seem to gunk up coils as fast, it wicks better, and the hit feels "stronger". VG has the CLOUD though.

Im currently prefering a 70%vg/30%pg 12mg blend. My 60%pg/40%vg 12mg blend sort of feels "hollow" when I exhale. I think im going to get some higher vg of the same flavor and mix it to thicken the mix/cloud. Curious to hear about other's experiences with PG/VG

Jandry, I'm finding the 50/50 to work well for me, but I'm still at the higher nic, 18mg. If I go up to the 70/30 then it seems that the flavor starts to disappear. I've started to try some 12mg with the 50/50 and when I opened up the air holes on my favorite tank I get a really good hit with a nice cloud of vapor, and get the really good flavor too. Although now I need to get my own drill bits because I want to open all my tanks up now... haha

We started with mainly 50/50 and some vendors 70pg/30vg. Started DIY and as we progress in this journey I, like you, find that TH is less important, lower nic is a goal, and my tastes have changed. I started making 25pg/75vg and like that now. I have 48mg nic in pg. As I lower my nic % I will effectively lower the pg in the mix by using vg for the remainder. I'm not a cloud chaser but find that more cloud gives me more of a smoking feel.

It's since dropped to 1.6 after firing and clipping ends. About 6 wraps of 30g around tiny screwdriver. I'm thinking 2mm?

Getting ready to wick :)

Sent from.... ooh look! Something shiny!!!

Is rayon made of plastic?
Is it safe to vape with rayon?
I thought rayon was the stuff that when you heated it, it melted and stuck to your skin if you got some.
Maybe that's nylon...
Just trying to ask questions about the safety of rayon.

Rayon is actually a plastic derived from cellulose... It's been around for 70 years or more. I'm always amazed how we can take something derived from pulp wood and turn it into a synthetic fiber... My dad was a plastics teacher at college and he used to take me with him when I was learning. Ping pong balls are also made of cellulose (to prove a point).

Still I'm not so sure it's safe to vape. I prefer silica or ceramic wick.
