Yeah but thats exactly the issue- once I wick (even sparsely with cotton), the longer coils really choke the airflow. Ive noticed if I leave out a flavor wick, make the coil a little higher, and space the wraps out (where the coil winds have space between each wrap instead of touching), its more airy (better).

Yeah, my bad. Im still coming to terms with terminology. Ill keep in mind to only use "chimney" when talking about the Russian and use "top cap" when talking about the Protank's coils.

I will try my next build around 1.8 ohms. This one is 2.0, so in the sweet spot for the MVP but as you mention most Kayfun builds are 1.2-1.8. Going down a little will help it heat the coil up faster, and heat-up time being brief is very important to me.

I totally understand on the perfectionist/OCD part man. I am exactly the same way. I have wasted so many perfectly good coils because I wanted to try something new. Now im experimenting with Rayon instead of organic cotton for example. Cool thing about that is you can run the wattage higher (since rayon gives up liquid faster than cotton), and that means better vape and faster heat up time. Now that people are mentioning vertical coils, I have to try one.. etc :p

While youre right about everyone having a preference, some things just WORK (e.g. the MVP). So be sure to share any great builds you come up with :vapor: Im pretty sure it will be a while before im some mad expert in this field, but my OCD is helping me work on that :D

@DingerCPA- if you try that vert coil, let us know how it goes and how you wick it. Im not sure if im going to put the wick inside or try to pack it on the outside yet.

**EDIT** great link to the insulators for the Protank herb.. many of mine are getting burnt spots from "hot leg" so that will be nice.

Spacing of the coils leaving a little more airflow with wicking makes a lot of sense , it's also important to not tighten down your Pro Tank builds on your MVP as that seems to make for a much tighter draw .

On my T3s style clearos that take Pro Tanks head's i always drill out the air holes on the base which makes for a more airy draw.

The reason i love the original Pro Tank is because of how light the draw is , it's amazing . You said your Kayfun's working well now so i wouldn't rebuild it to get to 1.8 ,but i have a feeling you will no matter what i say anyway , if you think it can be improved upon it's going to get done lol.

So does pulling a wick or two out of the i30 make a difference? My problem is bunt taste and too tight of a draw.

I doubt removing a wick will make a difference.

If it tastes burnt, try lowering the power setting. But once it's really burnt it usually stays burnt. Time to change the wick. As far as the draw, they do have a bit of a tighter drraw than most but that's why I prefer them. Not a fan of a loose draw. I like more of a "natural cigarette" kind of draw. YMMV here. Sucking a milk shake thru a straw ain't natural! :)

If it's really tight it's likely over filled (stay a tad below the fill line) or time for a tear down and boiling for a while because it's probably gunked up.

We have to bear in mind, every tank, mod, juice or whatever seems to have it's own idiosyncracies. Doesn't matter what type or brand, we pretty much have to learn how to use it or just get used to using it. :) A bad experience with any one doesn't make it bad. (outside of defective coils, parts, whatever). And personal preference is a huge factor.

I can't say I never had a problem with an i30. Just that I've been using them long enuff to realize it's not the tank, it's a problem with something about the current build that is screwy. Once I got the hang of them, problems are far and few between.

Rayon is pretty awesome- im just finding that out today. You might try some of that as well- since it lasts longer than cotton, you wont have to tear the Kayfun apart as often to rewick (since the coils if using 30 or higher will last weeks)

Thats one major plus for Rayon , how long it last , seems forever . Regarding taste it's too close to call for me , very close no doubt about it . I think you mean 30 gauge and lower will last longer , thicker coils will last longer than thinner ones .

The latest craze is using Ramie for wicking , people have said it blows Rayon away .

Wow , i put mine down on the seat for for a second if i'm shifting gears and then grab it again , you must vape like a madman if you need to hold on to it while shifting gears lol.

I do vape a lot especially when driving, but its more out of the habit that I keep my hand on the shifter when driving. Too many nuts on the road and i want my reaction time to be as fast as possible. I've avoided quite a few accidents over the years that way.

I just bought a bag of "Cotton Bacon" at my B&M yesterday. It comes in strips and so easy to work with for my drippers.

Haven't tried rayon yet, guess I'll get that next.

Curious to about how long the rayon goes before you rewick your kayfun. Who sells rayon and does it come in strands?

And the original Groove was recalled due to melt downs ;)

Well...the original Groove was recalled...but...the Groove 2 has been out for about 8 months with no reported problems:

The Groove 2

QUESTION...did you get your Silo Tank yet?

post #416 is a fella' who's pretty happy with his new Silo Tank:

LOL, that is funny `cause I know if I have an extended heavy vaping session with my MVP

when/if I switch hands my thumb is kinda sore, throbbing...

Since putting a piece of "Dr. Scholl's Corn Cushion" on my MVP2's fire button my thumb never throbs:thumb:

Wow desert I am the same way hand on the shifter while driving Mvp right in my hand for puffs in between. Or in my lap.

Love the MVP topped with the PT2 I have had the mvp combined with PT2 for over a week its amazing.

I got a sample from a trusted member here. Ill offer his name but understand he may or may not be running low and I dont want to kill his supplies: donesmokin. You can get Cellucotton from beauty supply stores. Make sure you get the version that is rayon- the cotton one will say its cotton on the box.

I have no idea how long it lasts- I just started using it today :D Im going off everyones suggestions that it lasts longer than cotton by far. Since I prolly wont be able to stop myself from trying a chimney coil tonight, ill post here about how the rayon looks when I tear it down, then Ill do a long term test with the chimney build.

Tell me about it , their freaking everywhere , i do most of my driving during the graveyard shift for that reason alone.

No need to change it , just thought i would mention it.

Thought id throw my two sense in on the PT2 rebuilt heads. I will tell u I have built quite a few I use 28gauge kanthal 9-10 wraps on 1/16th drill bit. I get 1.3 ohms every time. Great vape flavor! Lots of vapor combine that with the MVP and it works beautifully.

Dang Girl , you must feel really comfortable in super tight quarters , you certainly don't leave any room for error do you lol.

Not sure exactly but it's about three times longer than cotton at least , wait until you remove it , it still looks brand new and not dark and nasty.

Speedy, cellucotton/rayon. Everyone's been getting it at beauty supply stores. I did get a sample from donesmokin (Thanks buddy!!!) but when I go to get my hair cut next weekend, I'm going to ask my hairdresser if I can mooch some off her. (I've been trying to help her with her vape gear - her head's not quite in it yet, but maybe one day....)

Heck, don't need but a few inches. Heck, I can get about six wicks (at least) out of about 1" of the stuff. I have more than ample available.... Want me to send you a bit?

just read this on their site and i agree 100% :

We've seen how much these pieces sell for from other U.S. vendors and think people are being overcharged. This is our response.

Bravo , when i saw the ridiculous prices a certain vendor was asking for these it totally changed how i thought about that vendor , but thats just me . Somebody contacted me by PM and offered to sell me 200 for $ 20.00. Of course i took advantage of it .

They ran out but i think $7.99 for 50 is much better than $6.00 for 10 so i wanted to let everyone know.

I despise the silicone insulators , way way too soft for me, i tried both for a long time and the silicone ones just ripped and tore on me and due to their extreme softness the pins on my tanks would rarely make contact with my MVP , i like firm insulators.

I keep it around a lanyard to drive. Of course, a crochet lanyard is only fit for a lady... It's about time they made something to carry it.
