Just one last comment on the air hole issue. It is a variable that is just personal taste. That is why I like the o ring caps and not the screw on , you can adjust. In the morning I may want a cooler TH and by evening I like it hot. IMO there is no ideal spot for the air hole. Over the years we have put them everywhere on the cap, put vanes, fan blades, ss tube extensions and hundreds of other mods for air flow. I just did not think this was the thread to go through all that again, when really the only issue on the glass tube mode is not to aim the air on the coils and reduce heating.:)

I just got my glass in and started catching up on things. I've got a few experiments designed in my head that I want to start and I definitely need to catch up hardware wise.

Thanks for the fresh "dedicated" thread.

I noticed that the discussion had turned to vapor "management". I know it sounds silly but has anybody considered using a "tee" at the top of the tube. In keeping with KISS, a Pyrex glass "tee" with a wick stuffed in the branch might be a way to do this. Keeps the vapor away fro the coil too.

OK...I don't want to bust the intent of this thread so I just want to clarify here: Sounds like what you want posted here is just results of tests with the original ScubaQu design...no discussion of modification concepts. Is that correct. If so, I'm all for it...just need to know the rules.

Yep, lets keep this for just completed working units.

oops... just got caught up with the intent of this thread and since I think that was the issue I have with it not giving a good vape, I'll edit my post.

But I am interested in what the results are with the thicker walled quartz tubing.

Been vaping 2 threads of 1mm natural hemp on a 12mm pyrex 2.6 ohm 30g coil. Damn why had I not tried hemp before, well at least not as a wick. Really liking this. Will post a burn test in the morning.

Hey BJ- I switched to ss mesh because all other wicking materials, even with a ssmesh sleeve, muted the full flavor of the juice in comparison. Does the new glass sleeve negate the difference in your opinion?

I hardly ever get into the realm of flavors, as that is so individual. I can say that the flavor from these setups is more distinct, comparing eack wick to itself in other type setups. It is not all good though, you have the lag and very hot top caps, especially if you chain vape. I use two or three and rotate.

So I got some glass. Here's my take so far -

I started with the 2.5 OD pyrex (cheap). I could not score and snap this stuff. The uber thin walls led to continuous cracks and collapses when attempting to fashion anything close to my target length of 10mm or less. Next the 3mm pyrex. Snapping to length and finishing the ragged ends was not too difficult. Getting a vapable set-up took quite a bit of fuss and tinkering. I can execute a standard coil on mesh in about 15 minutes, including wick prep and adjustments for hot spots. On a properly oxidized wick, it's not a difficult process. A ScubaQu takes more effort, mainly to get the coils as tight to the glass as the Kanthol's tensile strength allows. Short of full and continuous contact, the coil would glow here an there, and flavor was metallic.

With the materials and choices made regarding tube length, etc., I believe I have this set-up working to the best of it's ability. I ended up with a two layer 400g stainless wick (dual), using 32g wire, 5 wraps for a 2.2ohm coil.

Vapor un-capped looks good, but is not as impressive in use. This rig does sputter! but not in my mouth with the dual wicks pinched down from a trim. Start-up lag is about-3 seconds. Flavor is very clean, and this is why I might continue to experiment. But honestly, the marginally cleaner taste I doubt will sway me, given the fussy set-up, lower vapor production in use, and the sputtery slow combustion. There is the potential for longer coil life, offsetting the added set-up fuss, so I'll report back on that.

What this approach does not offer, clearly in my experience, is an easier less fussy method for folks having issues with coil on mesh RA's
