In case you're not joking (always a possibility :D), they test ambient air before they test the vapor.
but if vapor to air was 50/50 and say vapor on its own produces 50% of what ambient air has. 50+100=150. 150/2 = 75 so say combined vapor with air has only 75% benzine compared to just air

Wonder how much formaldehyde I breath after new carpeting is installed?

Top 10 Myths About Carpet - Carpet Myths

Myth 2: Carpet has formaldehyde in it.
carpet-does-not-have-formaldehyde.jpg
Carpet does NOT have formaldehyde.
No, it most certainly does not. NO formaldehyde has been used anywhere near the carpet manufacturing process since 1978. Period. No ifs-ands-or-buts about it. Before 1978, only some makers had used a small amount of formaldehyde as a resin hardener. Even if there was carpet still around from prior to 1978, it does not have any formaldehyde now, as it would have completely dissipated.

The reason this myth is so persistent is there are companies that sell home test kits. Some of these companies are less than honest, and claim that their test kits will test your home for all sorts of nightmares including "formaldehyde from carpet". Formaldehyde does have some man-made and natural sources (plywood, for instance), but carpet is NOT one of those sources.

I know this is from a carpet manufacturer. I figure they are being targeted unfairly also. We know all about that....don't we? ;)

I tried to follow this thread--when it first started... Soooo above my pay grade. I guess I'll have to go back now...

But before I do, can someone help me here--with the basics.

So let's say that I want to give TC a try and use a ss wire.

I have a Wismec Presa tc75W in my hand. The specs say that:

"Our default setting is SS316. TCR value is 120
[what ????].

And you can try to use TCR mode and set the TCR value according to your coil’s material.
Material: TCR value range
Nickel: 600-700
NiFe: 300-400
Titanium: 300-400
SS(303,304,316,317): 80-200"

http://www.tasteyourjuice.com/wordpress/archives/10076

Now, per Phil, if your device is tuned for a specific SS alloy, like ss316 for most TC mods, if you use a different alloy, your temperature reading will not be accurate unless you switch to TCR mode. But I see peeps using all kinds of ss alloys all the time, most often ss316L and and others, in regular ss mode (not TCR).

And then I read your post:

So, do I need to use the specific alloy my device is tuned for? What happens if I don't? What if my device doesn't have a TCR mode?
Then it will not be accurate. Most mods have a regular SS setting do you might try 316L as that would be closer. 316L is what I use for claptons and whatnot, it's easier to work with.

 I like this thread

The amount of unfounded, unrelated guesswork and opinion already.
How many pages, in what, two days! Or is it more?

mikepetro posted a study (helpfully) and I posted a link to another helpful study which argues the point that I needn't worry, yet. I haven't read everything but I don't think much more official info has been posted.

This is the most science I've read in a year!
Admittedly the degree I bailed out on wasn't as humorous as this though.

So 316 and 316L are interchangeable (for our purposes here)?

Any particular gauge/build you'd recommend? I normally use Kanthal single coils (touching), 29/28 g, 2.5mm ID, 1.2-1.5Ω. (I don't do fancy coils, Claptons, etc., unless they come with the atty.)

use same gauge as you would kanthal and nevermind the ohms

Wow, it took me two days to plough through this thread (had to work in between), and just when i thought i had reached the end several times, it had grown another few pages. Interesting read though.

Meanwhile i took precautions and filled this baby up with juice, untill we know if oldstyle vaping (with batteries) is safe enough:

Coincidentally i had just picked up tc-vaping again last week, and was surprised by the consistent vape, less battery and juice usage, but especially the difference in taste compared to wattage vaping. Cleaner taste really, somewhat airier, bit cooler, but very satisfying, not sure why i ever quit TC.

I assume that my Pico mod might not be very accurate, as most of my (cheap) mods might not be, but the past few days i experimented with temperature settings and noticed quite a difference in taste at different temperatures. Eventually left it at 420F, using a subtank with .5 Ohm ss316l coil, at 22.5W. It never even hit temp protection, taking puffs the same way i used to in VW mode. Guess i'll stick to TC for a bit, curious to know where study on carcinogens will go.
