What is the difference between "chemically safe" and "protected" batteries? The two batteries I am looking at are:

Efest IMR18650 Chemically Safe Li-ion 3.7V 2000mAh and Panasonic IMR Hybrid High Drain 18650 2250mah Flat/Button/Protected Li-Ion

The Panasonic have three types (flat, button, and protected). Would the Panasonic protected 18650's fit in the Zmax? Would the chemically safe Efest 18650 fit?

What is safest, chemically safe or protected? ( with the knowledge that neither is completely safe)

Separate question... what would you recommend to buy for an atomizer to use with dripping? (from canvape of course)

I cant help too much with the battery question too much but I just bought the Efest 18650s (flat) for the Lavatube 4.0 and they fit perfectly. Give a quick email to Tom and he will tell you whether flat or nipple is the best for the Zmax

I dont drip often but after going to the market and talking with Kev he sold me on the 306 LR V2s. They are great but its stated to use them at 3.7v. Grab a drip tip for it though.

Thanks Audionut02, I emailed Tom to check out the batteries. I may give the 306 LR atomizers a try, I guess I would just have to limit the setting to 3.7v. Never tried dripping before but I have a lot of different juices as of late and it would be a lot more convenient for sampling.

If you are using the standard end cap, I would suggest flat top. Its a pretty tight fit.

"Protected" means that the battery contains circuitry that will break the circuit if it detects too much amperage trying to be drained from the battery.

"Chemically safe" means that the battery uses a base and catalyst that are safer (not actually "safe") than conventional lithium-ion polymer mixes. Typically, lithium-cobalt (LiCo), lithium-manganese (LiMn -- this is what IMR batteries use), or lithium-iron phosphate (LiFePo4). Batteries with these alternative catalyst mixtures typically don't have an explosive reaction when a short circuit causes thermal runaway, but they will still vent gases that can be poisonous if inhaled in quantity, so the "safe" bit just refers to the fact that they won't explode.

I have always found this useful in understanding protected batteries The Anatomy of a Protected Battery

Thanks for the info guys! I am thinking about upgrading my hardware and want to read up on the battery info before diving in... Damn ECF, once you read all the info/opinions on the better mods it is like they are contagious and you get the impulse to buy again! Peer pressure: it works.:)

Yes. Yes it does. But even if peers weren't involved there's still that consuming "I want it!" factor with some mods. Sometimes they just speak to you. :)

the rebuildable scene is either going really well or really bad cause it's cooling off a lot.

That's really strange, it appears the market is producing more RBA devices than ever before. What's replacing the rba's? A return to standard atty's? Or could it be the CE type devices are taking hold. I needed to buy a wick/coil combo from avidvaper since they offer above 3.0ohm.

Nothing is replacing the RBA's just most people aren't in our crowd(vaperfreaks) and don't want to go near one. Then there is the peeps that bought them crossed their eyes when they arrived and tossed them in a drawer :) Stuff above 3.0ohm is pretty niche only certain devices will even give decent vapor with it. My favourite is still a LR stardust or vivi on low voltage with a vmax

Hell,I`ve been vaping my Z at 5 watts with old stardusts and I am plenty content with that :)

Freakin things keep up!

And this is the problem with rbas...we can rebuild them!

So in essence, you buy one or 2,then you only buy wire and wick/mesh...not a good thing for a vendor har-har

But hey,I am slowly crawling away from mesh and wire atties...the fiddlyness is annoying really....got a row of unloved genesis on my desktop, wick and wire seeing all the action...for now.

You can mail those Genesis's's(?) to me for disposal, and I won't even charge you for it!
