Looks like the lowest v setting is 3.3, which is where it's set; the lowest w setting is 6, and it's set to that.

One thing I did wonder about; when I started playing with it, I discovered that the default w setting was "8" -- is it possible that using that higher setting just kinda "burned" that particular tankful of juice? If I put more in it, and made SURE that the lowest settings were set on both, might it be better? Because I noticed that after I set it down to 6, the vape *did* get a bit cooler. So much to learn!!! :p

Andria

A couple of things. Don't know that particular device, someone who knows if I'm wrong correct me, when you set it to 3.3 volts it stays that way but if you then choose 6 watts it stays that way and any voltage based settings are gone. I can say for certain that 3.3 volts is not the same as 6 watts even though they are both the lowest value you can use. Which means if you had it 6 watts then checked the voltage setting and saw 3.3 volts, you effectively changed it from wattage mode to voltage mode. The reverse applies, if you picked a voltage and then looked at the wattage setting, it's now in wattage mode.

As far as burning the tank. You can't, sort of. Depends if you mean the tank itself or the e-liquid in it. I'll do the tank itself first. You can completely burn out a coil, think a break in the wire here. It'd be obvious if you did that. You can get gunk (that's the scientific vaping term ;)) built up on either the coil or the wick. Running at too high a temperature makes this more likely to happen. Think unwatched fry pan and badly burnt whatever turned to ash. It's possible that you can clean the fly pan. If you don't, perhaps over time the pan will slowly work off the burnt nasty food and eventually things will be fine but before then there will always be a faint burnt taste in everything you make.

I don't remember what you're using as a topper, so can't give specifics on how easy it is to clean the coil. Perhaps you're using something like a cartomizer which really can't be cleaned.

My advice, since you're still working on not smoking, replace the coil, atomizer, cartomizer, whatever. Don't toss it, just put it aside until you're at the cleaning/fixing instead of just replacing stage with your gear and then you can try to clean it. Keep things simple and enjoyable and worry about the finer points later.

Finally, yes you can 'burn' the e-liquid itself. Actually you can caramelize some of the ingredients like the sweetener. The inexpensive tanks are the worst at doing this. The heat from the coil isn't dissipated by the material of the tank but passes into the e-liquid and causes the caramelizing. You should notice a distinct discoloration when that happens. I have a chocolate flavor liquid I use in a cheap tank. It's natural color is deep chocolate brown. By the time I've finished a tank it's close to black. The sweetness decreases as the tank empties. I keep carrying it because I use it on a cheap eGo battery. No big loss to me if it's broken or forgotten somewhere.

I have gotten to the point after three years that I really think I'd be ok without the nic...but need the juice so should be able to DIY for myself at 0 nic if needed...at least I think so. Myrany I have two Sophias and really like them. I have the supplies but have not yet rebuilt my own coils...but others do it all the time so with a little time/patience figure I should be able to figure it out. I'm not a very good dripper but did find the Diver/Grail to work pretty well. Now...if things go bad like they are heading in the UK I probably won't be able to use anything I own outside of my house...but then perhaps it will be time to retire:D

Myrany - I surely do envy you your collection! Wow. You want to adopt me?
List is in my notebook, I'll go do some research!

Simple truth I heard about possible regulation about 1 week after I started vaping last year. I have slowly been preparing ever since.

Did the homework and learned to use mechs and rebuild attys. Learned to DIY. Hunted down what was most durable and long lasting.

It is not paranoia so much as it is I refuse to go back to smoking. Period the end done.

I rebuild my divers no problem so I really don't think the sophia will be much harder. Build looks about the same.

I like the Aspire BDC ET-S if you can accept a non removable drip tip. The small size Pyrex tank Aspire BDC is usually a buck more at places I've seen both.

My wife bought both of those from a local B&M and has settled on the Aspire BDC ET-S as her favorite tank. It makes fantastic vapor on all her batteries including the old reliable ego's. I'd be using it as well on my pipes if it had a removable drip tip. I like a longer drip tip. But that is what got me using the Aspire BDC Maxi. Just wish they were Pyrex. I have some Butter Rum flavor that's making the plastic cloud up in one. Anyone suggest a Pyrex equivalent?

Have you considered a slender pyrex carto tank like maybe one of the 19 mm IBtanks?

Excellent news about the cinnamon! I *love* the price on that DV BCC... but (whining voice) I really want a glass/pyrex one, for all these juices that fold spindle and mutilate plastic... /whine :D

Well, I can't do anything about it tonight. Might as well just sit back and enjoy the Virginia in my eRoll, and get up early tomorrow to see if MadVapes ever responded with an approx date those AROs might be in stock... and if they still don't know, just order the red one. Heck I might just order it anyway, that red/silver combo would look pretty good with the silver iTaste. :p

Andria

PS: one thing I haven't mentioned is my idea for a juice I want to make, from existing flavors. I make a christmas cake that is just to die for... applesauce raisin walnut spice cake.... lord it makes me drool just to think of it. I've been tracking down some of those flavors, and I've found the raisin in a lot of places, but does anyone know where I can find walnut? I've found black walnut, but that taste is a little too strong for this cake, as I found out one year when I used them. :D The name of this juice would, of course, be "christmas cake". :D

Whoa, black walnuts taste totally different than regular walnuts. Not sure where to find walnut, and I'm not sure what you could possibly substitute for it. you could maybe try some french toast and add some raisin and apple to it?

Exactly!

2 REOs with 2 RM2s (and a nice supply of plain old fashioned dripping attys)

5 other mechs

5 other RDAs

3 other RBA/Tanks

2 divers with a sophia on my hitlist

so far 3 GOOD pyrex tanks

ENough Nic base for 5 years at this point.

Wire, batterys, cotton, Pg, VG, Flavorings are never going to be a problem to get. Too many other uses.

Myrany, if you were to recommend the easiest RBA to start with, what would it be? I want to get one to go with the Zmaz and learn to build it myself. Any particular type?

Myrany, (or anyone else with suggestions)

Any suggestions on the best basic mech mod that I could use a kick with that is also a good mod without a kick? I'm thinking that using a kick to start out with would be easiest for me, it would give me time to familiarize myself with the mech, make the transition easier until I'm comfortable running an unregulated mod. Also, any recommendations for a nic vendor? I want to avoid, if possible the "peppery" smelling nic.

TIA I appreciate any advice.

Honestly I would go with an IGO-L which is a single coil only but it has a deep well and a large base so lots of room to maneuver while learning.

Other people like to send beginners to the IGO-W which is built for dual coil but can be set up as just a single. It also has a nice deep well and large base but it has holes in the post which many find easier than wrapping around a screw.

I personally like the IGO-L better. I have no interest in dual coils and hate giving up the real estate inside for the 3rd post.

These are both drippers.

For an actual tank type atomizer the kayfun/russian/clones of either are fairly easy to setup and a nice vape. You could also start out rebuilding protank/evod heads which is where I started.

Double post

I did a rundown of my mechs a few pages back with the pros and cons from my perspective.

Hoestly taking my REOs out of the picture (not cheap at all) the HCigar Hammer clone is my favorite and most foolproof one though it is not ladylike. It will take a kick in all 3 sizes.

on the nic I got mine at myfreedomsmokes.com. It is high quality and comes already packed in glass bottles. It is NOT however the cheapest stuff out there.

I like that Protank 2 V2. Where do you get your tanks/coils from?

I picked a couple of them up at Stella Blues Vapors, they had a fantastic sale a couple of months ago. The cheapest place I've found for coils is Vapor Beast. I've started rebuilding coils, your coil costs drop to almost nothing then.

Good suggestion. I have some small Artemis Cartos that I use some but found that I change fluid so often that it wasn't practicle for some of my pipes. I still use them on my ADV setups. I do like the larger size of the IBTanks. Might get one or 2. Thanks!!:toast:

Thank you sweetie! That's what I wanted to know, which one wasn't so tiny you couldn't get into it.

Big Hugz!

You are setting either volts or watts, not both. You cannot change one without changing the other, but the change is not controllable by the user. You might think you're setting both voltage and wattage, but you're only setting one of them. What device are you using? Knowing what device you have might help in figuring out which of the two settings you're actually changing.

It's an iTaste vv3, with an iClear16. But come fire or water, tomorrow I'm ordering some kind of pyrex tank for it, a bottom-coil kind, so it will be cooler like the eRoll; I really thought it was too warm, it warmed up the plastic tip rather uncomfortably.

All I know is, I set the v all the way as low as it would go. Then I changed it over to watts, and found it was on 8, so it st it down to 6, and it got a little cooler, but I think the damage was done; it just kept tasting like burnt celery. bleah I know it's not a case of my tongue being fubar, because the eRoll still tastes the same as it ever did, just fine with the Virginia in it. *shrug* What do I know, you show me buttons on electronic toys, I'm gonna mess with them. :D Geek to the core, I guess.

Tomorrow, PYREX! :thumb:
