When using the Coil Master coil jig, the hole through which the wire is inserted is at an angle which promotes clockwise winding of the coil. It is possible to wind the other way but it doesn't work as well*. With the Coil Master, you hold the handle in fixed position and turn the top piece, not the handle**.

*Why not? Coiling rebar?
** What diff does dat make?

May I assume <yeah, I went dere> dat da handle and top can be rotated both clockwise AND counterclockwise; either/or in combination?

Leg orientation/post configuration/coil position I can understand; dat includes right side up/up side down and left/right screw capture.

I do believe...

Regardless, carry on... meanwhile, I'll just ponder my belly button lint as possible wick material...

Failure to communicate sums it up. I don't know where the failure lies and have grown weary of trying to locate the glitch. Time will provide enlightenment, or not. Putting things into proportion, my question was whether other people installed coils with the legs beneath the coil, like I do, or with the legs on top of the coil.

We managed to travel off into tangential territory where our individual maps are apparently asynchronous.

I just got back from 3 weeks at Ft. Campbell, Ky. and get on here to catch up and find this post. WoW !! What a deal David, Thx. I've got a SVD 2 in Black and LOVE it. I do all my vaping under 20 watts and between 1.4 and 1.6 Ohms so it suits me just fine. Now I am Tempted to jump on this even though I DON'T need it, really. My only problem with it is it is just so damn Long. Can you say "Billy Club" ? I gotta think now, I might be awhile.

While I never boiled my cigarettes, cotton or rayon, I do think I'd recommend it for that wicking material...

What, us drift off??

My subtanks, both large and small, came with the legs above the coil on the RBA, so I've been building them that way. But a web search of builds shows most have the legs under the coil, and bent down to get the proper spacing above the air intake. Maybe because all / most of the coil tools won't let you wrap the "right" direction for the "below" configuration?

As a retired dam electrician, it's second nature for me to always have the screw "pull" the conductor into the terminal rather than "push" it out... of course, in vapeland we're not talking about megawatts. Yet...:evil:

I caved and got an SVD 2.0. Saw a deal like this a few months ago and managed to resist. Then kinda regretted it. For home use and the vapocolipse if(when?) it happens kinda thing. Ordered on Wednesday night, in my mailbox Saturday. Only paid for first class shipping but they shipped priority and it actually got here! Nice mod. Not for out and about for me, but for home use, sweet. And if anyone tried to break in, not only will my dogs take them out, I can beat the remains with my SVD and be safe...o_O

Was the the link I put up a while back for $20?

I've actually had mine for a couple months, and it's a pretty solid mod. Hefty, but not heavy. Good feel in the hand. Great vape with every topper I've put on it.

But I was talking with a neighbor yesterday about the "deal", let him handle mine, and he was interested. He's not too computer literate, so I placed the order for him - and got myself the silver to complete the set

Ordered late sunday, shipped today with the "free" shipping, so USPS has all week :pop:

Sorry you had issues with the coiler. I've been loving the coil master. In fact an online reviewer was giving away 15 of the V3 you just had to pay shipping and I was lucky enough to get one, should be here tomorrow, can't wait! Dunno if it's that one, or you just don't get along with coil jigs, but I won't be recommending the one you got. But.....glad the screw is working out great for you!

I might be alittle Late in my response, But, the V3 will also let you wind Right Hand And Left Hand coils, plus the shanks are a lot longer (easier for setting your coils in your coil base). There's other changes also, I know as I've got a Red one. You'll like it, I'm sure.

I can only do a good job of building a coil when I use my Coil Master jig. Eyes just aren't good enough, even when I use a magnifier, to see what's going on. With the Coil Master I don't have to see... just make the coil, take it off, put in on the head and wick it with KGD cotton. My eyes ARE good enough to get the cotton in.

A related question: it seems logical to me to install a horizontal coil with the legs "underneath" the coil rather than on the top side. I've never done it the other way around (maybe it's impossible) on my Kanger Subtank rebuildable heads. Doing it with "legs up" would put the coil closer, possibly too close, to the center hole, is what I'm thinking. The screws that hold the leads are both at the same level on the Subtank.

Am I doing it the way that most of you do it?

Legs Underneath is how I have always done my Lemo coils, and the Subtank would be the same Bells.

Don't know about the Lemo 2, but the original has a deck more like a Kayfun. The Subtank is a different deck design.

But I don't think it really matters in the vape as long as the coil height is right.

Yes, From pic's I have seen the Lemo 1 is like the Kayfun deck, but I thought that the Subtank was also ? Are my Bi-Focals Dirty, maybe too many meds, it's late.

Edit: Lemo 1 and Lemo 2 decks are Identical. Hows the Subtank deck different ? What did I miss ?

The air intake on them is at the bottom of a big "notch" between the posts, and as Bells mentioned, the center of the coil needs to be along the line between the posts, so halfway down into that notch.

A left hand coil brings the ends to the left of the binding screws, so they tighten in - my preferred method.

A right hand coil brings the ends to the right of the terminal screws, risking pushing the wire out as it's tightened.

But the screw itself is in its own little notch, and spans the notch, so it's pretty easy to do on either side.

OK. I see what you're talking about now. I'm a Lemo kind of guy, got both versions, but was going from Pic's and memory on the Kayfun and Subtank decks. I should know by now that my memory sucks when it comes to details, guess I'm STILL Not used to that change in my life. Thanks for the pic's, appreciate it.
