Question for my used to be blonde, now tinged with grey, brain. When you twist the wire, do you lower the ohms? Kinda like a dual coil where your final ohms is 1/2 of each individual coil???? 2 ohm single wire would be 1 ohm twisted pair?????

Yep - for the same number of wraps a twisted pair will have a lower Ω. But I don't think it's 1/2 of a single strand as your still using just 1 coil just that the twisted wire has a lower resistance.

Yes, when you twist the wire, you do lower the ohms. However, you don't quite cut the ohms in half. That's because it takes more than twice as much wire to make a given length of twisted wire. Steam Engine has a calculator for that, but it requires you to measure the distance between "ridges" of your twisted wire. It would be easier, in my opinion, to simply build your twisted pair coil and then measure the resistance, knowing in advance that the twisted wire coil is going to have somewhat more than half of the resistance of the same coil made with a single strand.

Let's see if I can word that differently in case the above doesn't "click":
It takes more than 8 inches of wire to produce a 4 inch twisted pair. Therefore, when you make a coil out of twisted wire, you're using two pieces of wire, each of which has greater length than a single strand that would make the same sized coil. Therefore the resistance is more than half.

I'm shopping online for a Dremel tool to use for, among other things, enlarging the channels on a kayfun. We have a Home Depot nearby so that's where I'm going. We have a Harbour Freight I can probably pick up those diamond bits at, but I wasn't crazy about their rotarty tools. I want a Dremel, just not sure which one would be good without breaking the bank. I'm thinking this one: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dremel-3...ry-Tool-Kit-3000-1-25H/203040434?N=5yc1vZc2fp Any thoughts?

The following is from a customer review of a VV/VW mod. I have not corrected the grammar and spacing errors. Somebody did tell the guy to study Ohm's Law before he hurt himself. Actually, I post it for humor value rather than in outrage, because heck, it could have been me not that long ago, and ignorance isn't a crime as long as nobody gets hurt.

I would have given it 5 stars if you could adjust the voltage without the watts been adjust at the sametime.

Conversely, getting a bundled "kit" to start does provide a lot of other ways to use the tool, to see what you can do with it. Might not explore that without the extras.

And Iffy's right, flex shaft. They might even have a kit with one in it...

And good, you have safety glasses.

USE 'EM!

They use miniature grapefruit spoons to dig particles out of your eyes...

Well, you just need a variable resistance coil, i.e. a rheostat. Small stepping motor to adjust it under microprocessor control. Would make for a rather large and heavy topper, and probably quad 26650 to power it...

Oh no - now someone is going to try it - if they haven't already...
