Are you saying that contact coils are working for you in TC? A friend loaned me a 50W Invader with a Derringer and some 30g tempered Ni200, and I have to admit, I'm pretty impressed, so far. I just can't keep coils in it. I don't think that 30g is up to the task of running 450 degrees and 45W. I ordered some tempered 28, so I'll give it a try. I'm just not getting more than a couple of days out of a coil right now. I have built with spaced coils, and once with contact coil. I couldn't tell if either was better than the other as they just didn't last that long.
Those 30 g coils just end up giving up after a couple of days. One leg will always break. I've gotten used to dual coils in my mechanicals, and my friend is introducing me to TC and I'm liking it, but maybe the temp and wattage that works for me might be more than that thin wire can do. I've ordered some 28g and I'll see if that doesn't hold up a little better.
No, the 28 gauge nickel coil that's still working well is an unevenly spaced coil with a touching loop or two... the uneven spacing was not deliberate. I'm not a highly experienced coil builder and should have used a magnifier when I was making it.

I do not dry burn coils... I wick them, wet them thoroughly and vape them. I built the coil on the rebuildable head of a Kanger Subtank and took a picture of it before I started to use it, see below.

I've settled in on 380 degrees at 25 watts using my Heatvape Invader Mini PV.

I've had zero luck with the pre-built 0.15 ohm OCC nickel heads for the Subtank. Neither of the two that I used lasted through 50 draws, and they vaped poorly. I'm really glad I only bought one 5-pack, they're not made well.

Here's the coil that's still chugging away happily:

And there's no problems with the invader reading it properly, hot spots or hot legs? I've been building coils for a good while, but always tension micros at first, now my favorite is 2 - 2.5mm. All of them tight, so it's hard for me to build an "ugly" coil, or all spread. I'm not going to build another 30g coil. I'm going to wait on my order with a roll of 28 in it. I'm determined to get the hang of this TC. When I do, I'll hopefully save up to get me a TC mod.

I have officially retired La Vamiteresse. Everything tastes like hotlegs, and my meter measured a coil at 2.05, and on the vamo it measured at 1.8. :( Even with a 18350, she is taller than both my unkicked telescopic and my kicked Nemesis with 18650. Turning the watts down only helped a little.

Yesterday I ordered another Nemesis. I was going to wait until later when they restocked, but they found three of one of the two models I was looking at.

No clue what the coil looks like when firing, because I've never looked at it with power applied. The resistance has remained very consistently at 0.13 ohms through every battery change and tank refill. There were one or two quite brief excursions to 0.12 ohms but it came right back to 0.13 after a couple a few draws. I don't know if the wire is tempered but I'm guessing that it is, based on the fact that the coil didn't seem weak or floppy to me when I built it.

It's a 2.5 mm diameter coil.

My most recent coil was not hitting like others. I pulled the cap and fired it and sure enough, hot legs and a hot spot. I can take care of that with regular Kanthal builds, but that tempered 30 is just so soft by comparison that I don't know how to fix it other than take it out and try again. Does anyone using nickel test fire before wicking to check on how it fires? And will a reg mod with TC do that? There's a lot I can do with regular Kanthal, but this is new territory.

"...hot legs and a hot spot..." are a common issue folks talk about with compressed (touching) nickel coils. Has something to do with how nickel 'does not' oxidize like kanthal w/ touching coils.

I have a question please. I was PIFed a Lemo Drop. I really like it. I cleaned it the other day and put the little fill screw in a plastic bag to keep it safe. Now I can't find the bag!!! Anyway, I am using one of the silicon rings and it works, but being a hoarder, I would like some extra screws. I emailed Eleaf/Ismoka and got a nice reply that the size of the screw is M 2.5*3.0 P0.45. Now I have not a clue what that means or where to get one. Can anyone help?

Can't help with a source, although a hobby shop that caters to RC (radio control) pursuits may be one place to start...

But the M is Metric, first number is diameter, second is length and the P0.45 is the thread "pitch" of the threads.

Found a guy on Ebay selling the Coil Master for the same price, $10, (including shipping) as the coil jig I wasted my money on.
do you mind saying what kind you got that was awful so others don't get one? Found a couple for 10.95 but actually found this one for 5.00 Authentic Black Coil Master V3 6 in 1 Coil Jig Coiling Kit nano Micro Macro | eBay There are only a few though. would probably get this one if I had that in pp right now.

I had to give up my watermelon bubblegum.
oh no. Sorry it caused you issues.

Maybe I'll get a duck head to hang the coil on. :)

tell chopdoc all us old farts think that was a fantastically awesome thing to do and he now has a honorary, lifetime, non-declinable membership on the geezer porches. :D
I second this!! and what a small world. What a nice guy!

I am going to make duck tape wraps so I will be able to tell Num-num and Binky apart. Plain Jane will just be herself.

You need more mods so I can giggle and grin when I read what you've named them. Yes you do. :thumb:

This porch is such an amazing group of people :) Everyone is ready and willing to lend a hand (or an o-ring or a post screw or whatever). It's also such a pleasant place to visit. I have wandered into too many threads recently where people seem to be so snitty with each other (idk if the mods are going to rail on my term for "being terse" - if so, my apologies aforehand....)

@Rotowoman - building ROCKS. I'm finally getting the hang of it - for you to score a KF4 is AWESOME :) That another ECF'er took the time to teach you and be your benefactor - that rocks even more (even though he's been "ratted out" ;) )

Seeing stories like yours and actually feeling the "love" here is what keeps me coming back to ECF. I was debating over the past few weeks if it was time to stop reading here - I have enough other chaos in my life, I don't need interwebs drama on top of it :p

Thanks, everyone, for restoring a little bit of faith!
