Happy New Year Everyone!

Yay - I made it to Jan 1st without ordering anything new. Going to spend today figuring out what my first New Year order is going to be - but somehow I can still see a purple spinner in the near future :D I am so happy that I made it thru New Years eve - even hung out with the smokers a couple of times and had no desire to have a cigarette.

I am still living in amazement that I am not actually smoking - so I continue to hope that 2013 is going to be great year!

I forgot who else uses WTA juice - but if you are one of 'em, then Vapelicious just opened a few hours ago and is taking orders for flavored WTA and DIY WTA. Ethan's DIY is blended for a specific nic level, WTA level and anticipated % of flavoring to add makes it a little simpler for the DIYer.

I find I'm using it a lot less than I did - I suppose that's a good sign that I'm leaving the stinkies farther and farther behind me.

Congratulations kari. I'm only on day 11 smoke free and I have trouble believing it myself. It's a great feeling. My wife still smokes and I purposely left two packs of mine in reach, but so far it's all good. Did just order myself a boatload of DIY stuff to keep me and my mind occupied. Should have it all by the end of the week and I am looking forward to my second attempt at DIY.

Way to go - in a blink of an eye you'll be 2 weeks smoke free. Great going! :toast: Nice way to start the new year.

Part 2 of my AGA-SS. I've been vaping it for a few days now and I'm impressed with it, particularly it's much lower cost than my ZAPs. Liking it enough to get into a co-op for the new AGA-T+ version 2.

I wrapped the coil on a drill bit then installed it. The working room isn't much, it's a tiny thing with tiny screws. The wick hole could be closer to the positive terminal to shorten the lead from terminal to wick to avoid a hot spot (version 2 has this corrected). Some folks use small SS washers to help eliminate the distance. Burned the coil 2 or 3 times briefly to harden and set it.

IMG_0893_zps3364884d.jpg

Then installed the wick, so it was an easy fit but still touched all the coil rings. I tried to 'bend' the wick slightly toward the pos connector to minimize the distance from wick to coil of the bare lead.

IMG_0897_zpsa03810d7.jpg

Then gave it test dry-fire. Not bad, not bad at all. Only had to tweak the bottom rings to get them glowing consistently with the top rings. I cut the top of the wick even with the top of the pos terminal.

IMG_0899_zpsea605577.jpg

It vapes nice, produces a decent amount of vapor. The top does get warm-to-hot when chain vaping, not an issue for me though. The draw is on the tight side, more like drawing on an Io6 dripping atty than a Fusion carto or the airy ZAPs. The air hole on the AGA is 1mm on the ZAP is't 1/8" (like 1.5mm+). I'm thinking of boring out the AGA to 1.2mm. I think this will actually help the vapor production by getting more air to the coil not just make the draw a little lighter/easier. Iffy - it you didn't like the airy draw of the Atom Bomb - the 1mm hole on these might be just to your liking.

Oh Iffy - here's a shot of it on one of your favorite PV's.

The 510 connection on my Gripper was starting to get loose after I dropped it a couple few times. So now I always use an eGo adapter and ring. It keeps the connect snug and I get no wobble with regular tanks and it actually helps secure the heavy Aga-SS to it.

Closing thoughts - the SS tank looks nice, but a clear tank is much more convenient for keep track of fluid level. I've been using a toothpick as a dip stick to check fluid level through the fill hole before topping off. I vaped my 1st couple tanks w/o the fill screw. I've got the screw in now, loose, and it still seems to be wicking OK. Perhaps I have enough air space around the wick to allow air back into the tank. We'll see.

Firstly, Happy New Year Mike and everyone else and thanks for the pics.

Is this much easier than I thought? You make it look real easy. Is that just one wrap around the pos. and neg. posts?
Also how do you determine the number of wraps around the wick?

Yes it is easier than you think. I was quite intimidated when I started. Then it just hit me, so if you make a mistake and it doesn't work. Take it apart and try again. Yikes! I wasn't desperate to get one of this setup to vape. Good gosh - I have plenty of other good gear for vaping 'till I get the hang of it and become consistent. I actually got better at it rebuilding Vivi Nova's and that gave me the confidence to go back an visit the big boy RBAs. Which I tried for a month or 2 and wasn't satisfied w/ the results. (now this wasn't 2 months of every night - just every couple weeks I'd have a go at it for a couple-few days).

How many wraps - now that will depend on the guage of wire and the thickness of your wick. On Vivi Nova's I think I had it down to 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches of coil wrap with give me 2.2 - 2.4 ohms (I'll check my notes upstairs and confirm that for you.

On the RBA's my wicks are around 2.5+mm. My wick holes are ~3mm and I roll the wicks so there's an air gap around them when inserted. With 30g Kanthal I shoot for at least 5/6 wraps and that's about 1.8ohms, and usually go as much as 7-8 wraps. I like 2.0+Ω's and max out at 2.5Ω for my upper limit. Like DIY for juice, keep notes, so you can repeat what works for you. If you're using 32g you can do few wraps than w/ 30g as the Ω/inch of 32g is higher than 30g.

For geny RBA's I'm pretty much using just 30g as it lets me use more wraps for a 'given' Ω'd coil which mean more heating surface area to vaporize the juice. The downside is, I have to increase the volts on my PV to heat up all that wire. AND - if you roll fat dense wicks, they suck heat from the coil - requiring upping the volts yet a bit more.

I had to throw away all the guidelines I was used to for using a particular voltage for a particular Ω rated atty or carto with fat/dense SS wicks. For a conventional atty or carto at 2.5Ω I was quite satisfied to vape at 4.0-4.2volts. If I have a 2.5Ω coil on a wick made with 60-80mm of SS mesh - I'm cracking the Provari up to at least 5.0 volts if not a tad higher to get the same satisfaction.

Look at my signature line when using fat/dense SS wicks. It's all about heating up the entire mass of the wick and coil to get enough heat to vaporize the juice. Commercial attys/carto's just don't have anything to heat up except a little bit of wire.

Note: don't get caught up w/ all these threads on RBA's where folks are running sub 1.0Ω wicks - that's truly for the advanced PV addict with good mechanical mods. They can't crank up the volts / watts as they're running straight off the battery and need to go to extreme low Ω's to generate higher watts (heat). We can do it safer with reasonable Ω'ed RBAs just by increase the volts or watts on a VV or VW PV.

ETA: Yikes - didn't mean to write a book to answer you. Just saw how much I typed when I posted the message.

WallyO - congratulations on the 11 days too! I actually still have 5 packs of cigarettes in the freezer. Not that I want them - mostly just because I still cannot believe that I am not smoking. I hope the DYI keeps you busy and occupied.

I think I keep waiting for the realization that I quit to catch up to me and so I anticipate that situations - like going out NYE will cause me to want a cigarette. Then when it doesn't happen I am amazed all over again. Honestly, I think most of the time if I think about cigarettes at all - it is to question more "why" I don't want one. A few times it has been - I wonder what it would taste like - then I remember that the last one I smoked definitely did not taste better than the vaping.

I am sure it is probably much harder if your wife is still smoking - I am fortunate that my husband has never smoked so unless I go out I rarely have anyone around that is smoking.

Good luck on the DYI - I hope you create some great tasting juice:thumb:

Yepper, I still use and like my VV Grippers! I also use the 510/eGo adapter with a cone ring. I like to save my PV 510 threads. Plus the cone really does steady the connection.

... what took you so long?

Wow, tough crowd!

Devo - this is the year of the snake? Ummm, is there something good about that? I know one thing that's going to make it a good year for people who have switched to vaping - they don't have to make any resolutions about quitting smoking - wow, what a relief! Even if they haven't quit the cigs totally, they've certainly reduced the harm from them.

Now thats a nice coil! great job I have to try the drill bit, you think you have enough tools laid out looks like you are building a TV! hahaha

Janet you can look up your year online and find out what it is (by your birth year) and than look up year of the snake and see whats supposed to happen.
I dont want to post it and get a reminder that I did something wrong AGAIN! LOL

Great thread! I smoked for over 20 years and so has my wife (until we quit!). My starter kit was an ego variable voltage battery with a stardust clearomizer. Next was a SmokTech VMAX using a ViVi Nova tank. What I vape now is a ProVari V2 with a ViVi Nova Tank. My wife still uses an ego/stardust.

Cheers,
James Welborn
