Something I've never understood is the nic percentages. Folk seem to feel obligated to things like 6%, 12%, 18%, 24% et al. What's with the 6 system. A decimal system is so much easier to play with. I buy 100 mg nic and mix roughly 10 mg liquids and it's so much easier to figure it all out if I don't have to actually use a calculator. Using a base 10 system instead of a base 6 system seems to me to be a no brainer. You know, in advance, if you're about to mess things up badly. Is it just me? Maybe I'm too old or too metric (although I wasn't born that way) but it makes more sense to dumb it down a bit. But then, I'm old (well... compared to last week) and maybe I've forgotten and ranted about this before.....

No its not just you. I do some DIYin and I've thought the same thing. Those smaller lines on the syringes are harder to see. In fact, I seriously doubt when I'm using a syringe that my nic level is accurate. Is that how they came up with 6? I wondered why not 5... longer lines. Ooops, it save too fast... anyway, I usually try to modify the recipe so I can work in easier quantities.... sometimes its more than I wanted to make and sometimes less.

I just saw your other post and it does affect mixing so much. I usually adjust in the calculator so I'm working with the easiest to do measurements. But, like you, wish I didn't have to use one and, yes, it would be so much easier in straight decimal.

I'm thinking of getting a rebuildable atomizer. Problem is I can't afford much. Is there anything out there that's affordable and still worth bothering with? More specifically, something good for someone with poor eyesight and not particularly good fine motor skills?

I've heard that some RBAs are just plain poor quality and that some are made such that they're hard to work with for us half-blind, shaky-handed old folks!

Vision Eternity, AGA Tiamat/Plus, Dream Tank, Terminator, AGA Hydra, AGA-S Satyr, Griffin, A5, Cobra Clone, Pegasus A7, Phoenix, Siren, Wyvern, . . . . .

Any suggestions? Maybe I just shouldn't bother? Or, has anyone found one that might be worth a try?

Dancing - not meaning to rain on your parade - but any of the re-buildables are going to test your eye sight and motor skills along with your patience to try it a few times before you get it right. I'd suggest something with a clear tank like the AGA-T or AGA-T Plus. DV sells these for about $22 to $29. They are poplular and work well. The downside is they have small screws to manipulate when setting them up.

eta: MyVaporStore has the AGA-T Plus on sale for $24

I was so excited all week expecting some new ejuice that I won in a contest on Monday to be delivered, it didn't come yet :(

I was also excited all week expecting my Vivi Nova to be delivered by today too. According to the USPS tracking page the package was delivered already, somewhere in Illinois (I live in California). I emailed the vender earlier today and haven't heard back from them.

Dang it!!!!!!!! Dang it!!!!!!!!! Dang it!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I will clean out some cartos and clearos tonight and hope I can find a couple that still work well while I continue to wait - grrrrrr

Now that's just not good. bummer! Ken

I think it has to do with most people not buying the 100mg/ml but instead getting 48 - 36 - 24 mg/ml in which case 6/12/18 makes a little more sense

I think somewhere in the 'begining' of e-liquid coming out of China they were trying to match the nic level of 1 ml of juice to smoking a pack of cigarettes. For example, a regular strength cig has about 1.2 mg/nic per cig so smoking a pack you consume 24 mg of nic. So 1ml of 24% or 24mg/nic e-liquid is 'comparable' to a pack of regular strength smokes.

I think this is like the chicken and egg! I believe it's bottled in 48 and 60 because of the 6,12 math.

I'm sure I heard something like; 6 mg is a drug threshold level for nicotine? and that double that level would give the next level of effect? So, 6, 12, 18, 24 would be like single, double, triple, quadruple doses? You can see that I am not 100% confident with this. Someone will come along soon with the scoop on this.

I do know many people who got to 6mg and then interchange freely with zero nicotine juice without any adverse effects. Others can handle zero nic but use 6mg to get a throat hit or the benefit of a small dose of nicotine.

Just my thoughts on this.

Edit to add: You can DIY in any units you want. The simpler the better!

IMHO, RBAs are not for anyone with diminished eyesight and/or motor skills. [ETA] I do think that in the near future that some vendors will have viable wicks and coils available which will make your concerns dissipate.

If one uses decimal, I really don't see an issue with da math for increments of six. And yes, I also 'play' with da numbers to make my recipes values easier. So what if I don't mix exactly 30ml...

I can't try using it til my 2 cent thingee arrives...

Why not? Don't over think and drink da koolade. Use that puppy and enjoy!

Ah Ken, I'm so sorry you're having a bad vape week. I don't suppose you have a B&M store anywhere near you? Mike had a delivered shipment that didn't show up here and it turned out that somehow our address got blended with another address - both actually showed on the label, but the other guys address was used. Very strange, but the vendor made good on it pretty quick. I guess we've been at this long enough that we could pull from extras stuffed in a drawer somewhere for just such a problem. Hope both your deliveries show up soon.

That's what I was afraid of. I especially got nervous when I read the warning that Discount Vapers has on their website about the dangers involved. It's a quote from Rolygate here on ECF.

That's why I asked here instead of in the RBA forum. I figured I'ld get responses that were more accurate for my particular situation.

My eyesight is borderline. I may be able to do it. But, if I do, I need the easiest possible set-up to see and to be able to get to. At this point, I'm putting it on the back burner until something tells me that I may actually NEED to learn to do it (like over-regulation or whatever).

Thanks, Mike and Iffy for being so honest instead of being all cool and gung-ho about RBA's. That's exactly what I needed. And, I'll keep the AGA-T in mind for future reference. Who knows? I may just need it in a couple of months!

Janet, as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as a "bad vape week" as long as I can vape, somehow, someway. I found a couple of clearos that still work and have one loaded with cinnamon and the other with peppermint. In addition, I have a cold beer next to me and my family is out for the evening. It's just me and I'm happily vaping away :)

I'm still really bummed that I didn't get to enjoy a couple of new items though.........
