Older Folks and Vaping

I think the initial expense when switching to vaping is well worth it. Around here cigarettes cost almost $6/pack. At 1 pack a day for me and 2 for hubby it was $18/day. I don't even like thinking about what that works out to every month. vaping hasn't nearly been that expensive for us (although it could be if we went nuts buying everything out there). Once you get your equipment then it's mostly juice and carto/tank expense. I can see DIY in my future which will make it even less expensive - a very good thing now that we're retired. Add to that the health benefits of not saturating my body with thousands of toxic chemicals and we're WAY ahead.

The beast must be fed. If you starve it in one place it will latch onto another which is why they'll figure a way to tax e-Cig products in some way and convince everyone that's it's for their own good. If they were really concerned about our health they'd make tobacco illegal.

I think they are probably happy that smokers die young and they don't have to dole out the SS for very long. If we all start living to our 80's and 90's they are going to be in trouble. lol At least it should be there for us but maybe not for the younger folks.

Several observations relating to a couple of today's posts:

I finally broke even 'bout six/seven months into my new salvational (new word?) hobby. Just checked my last months vaping expenditure$. Won't give a dollar amount I spent on me. But mo$t of it was for the local v-verts that rely on my purchases to sustain 'em. I try to give 'em my links, but nopper. "Johnny Cigs (John-E-cigs) will take care o' ya." Oh well...

Been DIYing for at least four months. I don't rush mix a dozen flavs when I get 'em. Thankfully I have four/five that I vape daily. AND I'm always lookin' fer more, but at my pace. There are a few desired flavs that I've played with and have yet to hit the 'fav buds': chocolate, cherry, pineapple and a 'knock your socks off' vanilla (day-um, I do so luv vanilla!). Vanilla cappuccino (where's da coffee?) is another...

The one recipe I am kinda proud of is my GAP (Green Apple Pie):

my nic base - 60PG/40VG @ 15mg
Cap's Apple Pie - 12%
Cap's Green Apple - 5%
Lemon juice - 1 drop/3ml

Just to encourage ya'll to try DIY; by shopping $ales and $pecials, I pay less than $.07/ml for nic and less than $.01/ml for PG & VG. Flavs are da dollar hog$. None da less, if ya can mix a couple of daily fav flavs; ¢heap, ¢heap, ¢heap!

So, if and when you find your fav PV combo (aka, stop trying every new 'innovation'

) , and dabble in DIY, your vaping expenses will make ya more than grin!

Thanks for the recipe...totally agree with all you said...I'm just a few paces behind on the DIY juicing. Wife thinks the kitchen is better off with me out of it.

Box...just gotta love that, once I get the kinks worked out on that I'll be good to go until the next shinny what-ever-it-is comes along. Feel like a dog chasin' his tail sometimes.

Really lovin' this forum and all the wonderful folks here...you all would make a great party!

The USPS, in their infinite wisdom, sent my order to San Antonio - by way of Nashville, Tn. My Vivi Nova from Fl and the VTube from Ca both beat the juice here. No wonder I aint go no hair left!

The mailman is bringing me a pair of ViVi Nova tanks which I'll try out this afternoon. I'm really disappointed with all the types of Stardust clearos I've tried - in fact I just rinsed them out and put them away. If someone would make something like a bottom coil Stardust that was easy to fill and had tiny wicks like the CE3s - I think they could make a fortune. The only drawback to a CE3 is that you can't drip fill it from a bottle, other than that they are near perfect IMHO.

Still searching for convenience & reliability, sadly I'm not sure it exists in the vaping world. At home I can use large "contraptions" but at work I really need compact and simple...

Other than some minor issues, I've been loving the stardusts and the phoenix's. I think I do like the bottom coil better than top, but I do really want to try a vivi nova when I get some more $$.

Harley and Tx, are the apollo tanks more suited to higher voltage devices than the kgo? The one video I saw on them said they were like 3.3 ohms (hope I'm using these terms right), and so it did better at 4.2 volts? or something like that.

My Apollo reads 2.7 ohms and works real good on a Kgo. They will have different ohm valued modules you can order that simply screw in. I usually use it on bigger a device but it vapes good on my ego-t and Kgo batteries too. I think it looks better on them too compared to other big tanks.

Thanks. This was that Robbie person, and he metered it on a provari. I have heard others say that the vv devices don't always give a true reading on the ohms like if you use a real meter. Ohhh and hey....so proud of me....I used ohm and volt right!!! You really have no idea how big a deal that is for my brain! lol

Well I tried the CE4 and CE5 and they are ok but not my fave..Vape mail came today with the CE3 so going to give that a try and see what happens..I personally like a cooler vape so maybe the CE3's will be good for me..

Next will be the Apollo I guess..

The vision of a bunch of 50-80 y/o folks getting excited waiting for the mailman.....like kids at Christmas I'm right there with you. When I first got started vaping, I went wild and could expect something almost any day. Now it's slowed down and I have to get my kicks vicariously thru y'all.

Of course, I have been window shopping. It's amazing how many vendors are out there and the variety of devices they carry. Like others, I'm a bit put off by the lack of quality control and I can appreciate how it can be a problem for new vapers. This forum really helped me hang in there as I learned a whole new vocabulary and read about others who had the same issues I had. For that I am very grateful.

Right now I'm happy with my Gripper mods and the 510 jumbo Resurrectors that I learned about here. I have an Ovale V8 VV mod that I use with a carto tank and it was good in the car on a day trip. I vaped about 4 ml at 4.5v thru a 3 ohm carto using one pair of batteries (18350's).

Good to see some new faces. Please come back often and don't hesitate to share, good or bad. We're all in this together.

The ViVi Nova works pretty well. It did take some time for the wicks to saturate and start working well. I got the 2.5 version from Gotvapes and they use 4 long skinny wics on each side. Supposedly the 2.0 version uses single fat wicks that I think work better. Easy to fill and no leaks at all are a big plus. Time will tell...

Keep us posted on how you like the ViVi. I'm still considering trying these. Harley and Tiny have spoken well of them too. I like tanks when I'm away from the house. Although I use Boge Carto's with my tanks, I've never been completely satisfied with them.

Just saw a note on the discount vapers site this evening that he just received the replacement innards of the Apollo tank in both low resistance and standard resistance.

I have found on both the V1 and the V2.5 Vivi Nova, that trimming the wicks to about 1/2" brings out the flavor.

Yeah the usps system is what I was saying must have studied under the amtrak system from.

I am really wanting to try the vivi novas. Was showing them to my SIL tonite while we were on the phone. Thanks Harley, I'd seen some folks saying to trim the wicks, but no one was saying why.

Still happy with the Nova, looks like I found my at home system. I may try trimming the wicks as suggested to see if there's an improvement when the tank is empty. I fired up the GV Fluxomizers last night and it looks like more money wasted. While they are a tad easier to fill (you still need a needle tip bottle actually), they don't wick that well. I'm absolutely sick and tired of having to take an exacto knife and perform surgery so I may just toss them. At first, fiddling around with new toys was kind of fun, now I just want stuff to work out of the box.

I still search for convenience and consistency - every puff of a smoke tasted the same I just want to find that satisfaction with vaping. For now I think I'll just stick with the Resurrectors and CE3s, both have their bad points but they are the best "at work" delivery system I've tried. Really ticks me off that the Stardusts are so inconsistent as they would have been perfect if they just worked well...
