That is exactly what the shop that looked at my laptop said. It should not of happened, but did. My warranty will not cover it since they said the external device caused the problem - not failure by the laptop. Which product do you get to blame? Was it a bad USB port (it was a 3.0 USB port) or did the Ecig have a disruption during charging that backed up into the laptop? I do not know, but I am out one laptop. The cost of repairing is not cost effective.

Did the shop check for a virus or Trojan horse? That can absolutely cause the problem. I still find it strange a USB port is going to fry a computer. I've had bad USB ports on my computer. I never fried anything.

Not to whiz in anyone's Wheaties, but a USB port will try to supply whatever the plugged in device is demanding. If the port can't handle it... poof. A software issue would not fry a port. It's an hardware issue; either a faulty 'puter power supply/interface board or plugged in device.

Oh, and yes... I've deep-sixed my true pass thru a long time ago!

A virus does not leave a charred spot inside of the computer. Do not know how, but the USB device is supposed to have a fail safe to stop what happened - this time that fail safe failed.

I have to concur... I have seen warning after warning on the net about charging the ecig stuff via the USB. They all say MUST BE AT LEAST a 2.0 USB port, but CAUTION, could cause damage. I'm just not going there. The ONLY devices I have EVAH plugged into my laptops was the iphone or the ipad. And that is only in emergency, and I pray even when I do that. The rest of this nonsense can plug into the wall or die. Even the pas-thru I had originally bought from SI for the Volts said would not work properly via the laptop, buy the upgraded wall adapter. There is a REASON for that.

I am curious, tho, SEMI... when this happened to you and you were charging via the USB.... you were renovating a house... was the elec in the house up to current code? AND was your laptop on a surge protector? AND was your laptop plugged in? And was anything else charging via the laptop? Just curious....
I finally broke down and got me a Vamo :D It arrived today.

YAY.. my VAMO arrived days ago, carts and batts showed up today, so maybe hook it all up this weekend, if there is time.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I would plug much into a laptop USB port because most laptops have a small PSU. Power supplies can cause problems--including random crashes or even component failure--if they are asked to produce more power than they are designed to generate. I would guess that the failure came from a small PSU that was overloaded. Most PSU's that come with the off the shelf computers are on the small side. Since I built computers for years, I always check the size of the PSU in the prebuilt one's I have now. The one I'm on now has a smaller PSU in it and I need to pull it and put in a 460 watt one I have laying around. :) Nothing in this particular computer needs a PSU that size but if I add some external stuff to it, then the bigger supply should take care of any possible overload. :) Plus it's a desktop....

Thanks Gordon50. I wasn't aware. Ordered 20 "innards" I read a post Tumbleweed this guy vaped it 5 days a whole lot and spent the coil. I guess he's talking about rebuilding it. But with 50 cents a piece I'm just storing them for emergency I guess until my co op score is gone. Maybe by then they'll have one I don't have to wrap in floral tape and poke a couple holes in to get the draw I like! It's more quiet too. Try it You'll like it!

Yep I'm in! Great prices on Kanger gear! Hibi runs a good co-op! My Kanger Protank worked awesome all day without any problems!

The Protanks filled pretty quick even with a three limit. She was only able to order 300 this time but will probably do another order after this one is complete. A glass tank with three coil heads for 11.00 plus evods and MT3's for less than 3.00 was too hard to pass up. I personnaly like the easy draw but if you like a tighter one you can use the evod heads on the longer stem on the Protank and that makes it tighter. I haven't tried it but I read where some were doing that.

I think I'm gonna wait and see how it goes with these protanks. I'll probably end up getting one, but I haven't had much luck with the kangers :( The only one I really like and have ordered more of is the EVOD.

It is very similar to the Evod and uses the same type head. I use the Evods with my ego type Pv's and hope they come up with a glass one.

Just thought I would see if I could find a place to kinda kick back and relax. Maybe shoot the breeze and learn from the more advanced users. My wife and I started this journey together and are still learning. I am a knowledge freak and will research stuff for days on end. The more you know the better your chance at success.

Just for information, I have an additional USB port with it's own power supply and 4 additional ports. I've used it for over two years to charge many various e-cigs and never had a problem of any kind. I think that I paid $20 for it and it's made by Belkin. I think that having it's own power supply eliminates many kinds of failures.

Welcome to the thread Topher. There are lots of folks with vaping knowledge on this thread and between us all we have tried about every device on the market. You will find us all willing to give our opinions and help others along the vaping trail. They did request we keep this thread mostly about vaping and moved our original thread to the Lounge where we do lots of socializing plus vaping. What type of PV's are you using now?
Here is our other thread and most all of the people frequent both daily. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/lounge/289745-older-people-55-up.html

Currently running eVic with an aga-t+ tank. Have several novas, udct, did clone and a few rda's. Wife runs eGo twist with vision ET drip.

Sounds like you have come a long ways in a short time! :) The Vision ET drip is a new one for me. Is it an atty for just dripping?

It is a rebuildable one. It has a slight tank on it. Can hold about a ml of juice, however it vapes like a champ. Great vapor and flavor. Easy to rebuild as well.
