Hi Novcon and welcome!

I too was diagnosed with COPD and of course I kept smoking and it just got worse and worse. I was on Advair and an inhaler...yes what terrible things I did to myself.

I also had no intention of stopping. The ecig was just a way for me to get through a visit with my DD. The night before I left for the trip was the last analog I had. I will say, if I hadn't stayed at DD's for three weeks, I might not have given up the nasty but I realized shortly before heading home that it could be done!!!

I no longer use any meds for the COPD and have not had one problem since then. :)

Not maybe 'one day' - folks are making hybrid wicks with SS mesh and cotton. And it's variations include the cotton over the mesh to hold more juice at the coil, the cotton inside the mesh to increase wicking and of course having the cotton both inside and around the mesh. You're imagination and hand-to-eye co-ordination are the only limiting factors.

Ohhhhhh I wish I was in the land of cotton..Now this is going to be stuck in my head all day:lol:
Im limited by Bear paw sized hands..those wicks are soo tiny:(..I need them more the size of wicks for a oil lamp:D

Is that cotton over SS?

Yepper! It's six strand bamboo cotton. I unravel it and try to lay it flat on the SS wick so it's only "1 strand thick around' the wick and pull the rest through the wick with a long needle threader tool.

Not hard at all Fran. On one of the heads I did this too, I didn't even remove it from the tank. Just took the top cup off, laid the cotton roll across the slots in the head and gently pushed it into position with a toothpick. My 1st one, I didn't even bother to make the little "V" cuts.

It was working so well, I did another one that was taken apart and cut the "V"'s in the second one. Hint for cutting: put the cup in place, then take a fine tipped marker and put a little dot on the cup where the slots are in the head. Remove and make the "V" cut. Perfect alignment when putting it on over the cotton roll. Screw the top cap/drip tip back on carefully so it doesn't 'spin' the cup and twist the cotton roll.

Thanks Mike. I'll give the Viva another shot with the cotton when we get home.

Let me get this straight, y'all are replacing the wicks after they get so gunked up you can't clean them any more, by simply replacing the wick with what ever (cotton or silica) wicking material you choose. Do you wrap that wire mesh stuff around it? Could it be this simple? I love the T2's and ce4's and the replacement heads are fairly cheap but this would be even better. My mind says it needs to be much more complicated than this.

and would someone tell me how to use the multi-quote function? Do I check off the "+ on each and then use "reply to thread" ?

Morning Yiddle and you have it exactly right with multi-quoting! Click the "+ for every post you want to answer and then click "+Reply To Thread".

Thanks Mike - I am going to try this with my burnt Excalibur V2 - 510 EGO Excalibur V2 2ml LR Tank Clear [Excalliber Clear LR V2] - $6.00 : Vapors Choice, Ecigarettes & Parts - I am off to Walgreens like a herd of turtles!

Tex, that is one beautiful mod!

I will be 45 in 2 months, and people in their teens and early 20's think 45 is really old, so does that count? I remember when I was 19, and we met this guy who was 34, and we thought he was OLD! Now I'm 10 years older than that guy was.... LOL

Seriously though, do senior citizen smokers seem to warm up to vaping? I figured that many would be leery of it.

Welcome, HighlanderNorth....Actually, my experience is that a lot of the older folks are a bit more open minded than the younger ones I've spoken to......could be a lot of reasons for that.

Hi all, I'm 50 and I started smoking at 15. After 2 heart attacks and mild COPD, I finally ordered a 510 with prefilled cartridges. To my surprise, I quit analogs. Then I had a bout with bronchitis and had to quit vaping, because the moist air was bothering me. No I'm vaping full time and have quit analogs totally. The only proble I have now is that I'm addicted to vaping. I has since bought Ego's, a vtube and several bottom feeder mods. I have went to carto tanks and VIVI nova tanks. I started diying my juice and I'm loving it. I don't think I will ever stop vaping.

Welcome, Novcon Yea, the older we get, the younger those 50 year olds seem to be.....I have a daughter who just turned 50, so I really know the feeling. :)

Hey guys! And Gals too :) 1957, you do the math, it still freaks me out to say it. Yea the car has got some miles on it but the drive is still 20 He he. Been into this for about a month after 40 years or so of a pack and a half a day. I haven't even looked back. Good to meet ya all.

Welcome one more day, I smoked since the age of 22 and I started vaping at the age of 69, so that gave me 47 years of inhaling all that nasty stuff.
Thank the good resolve of the body to mend itself! Within a few short weeks I was able to do my weight training at the gym without stopping between machines.

You're catching on  Even though the replacement heads are only a couple bucks each, there's those folks that just like to tinker and other's that think silica wicks are unhealthy. So if you fall into one of these groups than some nichrome or kanthal wire and some cotton yarn and you've got all you need to make your own wicks/coils.

    Check it out.

I think it was Sunday I ordered. Wish I had done it sooner LOL, so it would be here by now :D

I wish I was more handy, but maybe I will get there some day. Stuff like this Phoenix Rebuildable Tank Atomizer interests me so much.

Now I'm wondering if Mike's rolled cotton could be used as a wick in a thingy like this. I know you have to make a coil from special wire and put the wick in there. One of these days, when I've saved enough from switching from analogs and can afford/justify experimenting with something...I'm gonna go for it and tinker til I can do it!

I was looking into a few of those rebuildable atomizers(RA's) yesterday, and watching a video on how to make a coil for it out of stainless steel mesh wrapped in a coil, then how to install that into the atomizer. There seem to be 3 RA's that are popular.

Hey Nov, I was one of those who accidently quit smoking. I loved smoking, but hated that it was so bad for me. I was so shocked the first day I got my KR808 that I just kept picking it up every time I wanted a smoke. It was so close to smoking, but without all the problems. And a whole new world of flavor opened. Surprise! Haven't had an analog since! I like vaping SO much more than smoking. I'm happy to vape and don't think I'll ever stop.

Thats kind of what happened to me last week when I bought my 1st ever non-disposable e-cig. I ordered an Ego-T from Totally Wicked, who call it the "Tornado Tank" kit. It was on sale for $54 I believe, with 5 pre-filled tanks, etc. But it took a week for it to get to my house from halfway down the east coast, which was odd. In the mean time I went out and bought my 1st ever disposable e-cig, a "Finity" menthol unit. I used it for 4 days, but it wasnt very good and I kept smoking about 10 cigs a day still.

But then I got the Ego-T in last Tuesday, and after that I only smoked 2 more cigs within the next 22 hours, then I quit completely. I've been smoking daily since about 1983 or so(addicted), but I started in 1980 at 13, but wasnt doing it often yet then.

So when I got the Ego-T in last week, I really didnt plan on being able to quit smoking per se, and I was really doing it because I'd disappointed my Mother by not attending this hypnotism stop smoking clinic where 1 man supposedly hypnotizes the entire paying audience, and you all quit smoking! Needless to say I was "skeptical". So I didnt look into it, and it my Mom was holding onto that as a possible method for me to quit.

I really didnt plan on quitting yet, but after I got a good e-cig kit, it just happened! It has been very easy to tell the truth, although it makes me look more courageous if people around me think I'm really sweating it out here!
