Been reading along this thread for a few days now and never got around to posting so i thought i better go ahead and do it. i just ordered a couple of the srt coils to try on my vivi novas figure if nothing else i can adjust them accordingly and make them work if they wont right out of the box(fingers crossed)and am going to try the cotton on top of the wick like someone suggested. i also have one of the rebuildable stardusts that i am trying to figure out, the draw is very tight on my ego-c twist 900mah or my reg egos 900mah

Sorry they didn't work out for you Tx, but at least you were able to warn the rest of us. Sometimes knockoffs work out fine... At least you only got 1 to try.

Yep sometimes they work just as good as the original and that is why I didn't mind trying them. A good lesson though make sure they are Vision Vivi Nova's when you order.

Welcome rik! I am sure that someone here has the info you need for the stardust!

txtumbleweed, I wanted to thank you. My Mom has COPD, and has for a few years. She had quit smoking for a while, but then picked it back up again. This really worried me, as she's had some bad episodes in the past, including spending some time in the ICU. After reading your story, and picking up vaping myself, I was realting it to her the other day. She became curious, tried both of my vaping devices, and tonight was asking a bunch of questions about it. So, I gave her the 808 starter kit I bought a little over a week ago, and told her we'd upgrade if she stuck with it and liked it. My stepdad promptly went online, and ordered some crappy starter kit for his self before I could intervene with the knowledge I've gleaned here, but hey, it's a start! Thank you sir!

Yikes! I'm vaping at 6 volts!!!!

Tonight I decided to try making an oversize 3mm wick for the Vivi Nova. Here's a good, simple pictorial on doing it.

I also tried out some Kanthal A1 34 awg wire. I've never used 34 awg before, I've been doing all my coils with 32 Kanthal. I used less wraps with the 34 as its thinner wire and has a higher Ω rating. But I didn't factor in the fat 3mm size of the coil. The Ω on the coil came out to 5.1Ω's - holy cow bat man! I had to crank up the Provari to 6 volts just to get to my sweet spot of ~7 watts of power. I used 8 pieces of 6 strand bamboo cotton through the coil and there's still room for more. I didn't put the cotton over top yet - but I'm getting tons of vapor with this setup.

So tomorrow I'll rip it apart and use 1/2 the coil size to get down around 2.5-2.8Ω and add the cotton topping.

Wow WNC thank you for relaying that to me. I share my story for that very reason hoping I might help someone else that is going through the same battle as I was before I started vaping. I wish the best for them and will pray they have the same success I have had with vaping. PM me anytime if I can help in any way and let us know how she is doing. Congratulations to you for being a concerned son and helping your mom discover vaping.:toast:

Wow WNC, you're a good son. It's going to help them a lot to have you near for their questions and you can keep an eye on their progress. There's a lot to learn and tons of choices. It's hard to find your way alone. A lot of people here started out with those starter kits and you're right, as long as it gets them going it's worth it. So many people here have been so helpful (and continue to be) to hubby and I along our journey and Tx is a wealth of knowledge that he's more than happy to share.

Can't find any cotton either... :( . Will the cotton out of a bottle of aspirin work? Would I need to boil it? TIA!

I'm not so sure the "cotton" out of a medicine bottle is cotton. It's probably some kind of synthetic so I wouldn't use that. Can you google pharmacies in your area and check with them? Mike happened to find his in CVS, but chain stores only carry items that have a high turnover. I bet there's smaller pharmacies that carry it and you could just call them to see if they have it.

COPD is horrible but I haven't had an episode since I started vaping though.:)

Just barely up, but up..............
