Well the great MikeE3 rebuild is on, with a twist. Before trying this on my vivi, I am attempting to re-wick a Volcano v2. I have three that all have a taste burnt. Wanted to practice on something I would not mind sacrificing to appease my curiosity.
My wife had a conference to attend last week so I tagged along to keep her company and do some shopping. To my dismay, the local CVS had gone out of business! Off to Michael’s for 100% cotton yarn – Score! Only error was grabbing Lydia’s 100% mercerized cotton thread on sale for a buck! I will find another use for this!
Yesterday I boiled, dried and hung the yarn until needed it. Last night I took the first Volcano apart, I noticed that the 4 pieces of wick were restricting fluid flow by the 6 coils of wire being too tight and burnt looking. I destroyed the coils attempting to remove the wicks. Next victim had only four coils and I removed the wicks easily, cleaned the coils by using a Staino dental brush (works great and fits through the coils) and vodka. Off to get the yarn! On my way back, my son (co-conspirator) asked what I was doing. Stopping to explain it to him gave Niki (Bengal - AKA Traitor), an unauthorized free shot at the dangling toy! I saw the yarn disappear into the sunroom and heard my son laughing hysterically! Back to the boiling board and lesson learned – bag yarn and use super soaker for threat prevention/security/hosing down conspirators!
Still determined I rolled two pieces of cotton gauze (Thank you Mike), down to toothpick size. Slid one through the coil and placed the other over the top. Re-assembled, filled (Bladerunner), and vaped. The rolled cotton gauze really absorbs the liquid, and provides greater vapor than the previous wick. Flavor seemed to be lacking last night when compared to a vivi with same juice. Flavor is still lacking this morning. Will try re-wicking with yarn through the coil and a cotton topper this evening. I have some running around this afternoon and need to pick up a bobbin threader.

No, the taste is fine...just really, really dark juice. I thought there was discussion awhile back on this thread about it, but I could be very wrong...I haven't been able to keep up.

It's common for juice to turn dark. Doesn't happen to everyone / or with all juice, but just the same many folk talk about it. Most likely cause is the juice heating up as well as 'gunk' particles breaking away from the coil and exacerbating the color change. When filingl a Viva Nova with an SS wick sticking 'out' thru the slots, after a fresh refill I tilted the tank to wet the wick. I could actually see a small stream of blackish liquid running off the wick down into the fresh juice.
Way to go MichaelB! I've found cotton roll or cotton batten rolled to use as a wick creates nice vapor but decreases the flavor of the juice. I don't use cotton roll/batting for wicks any more. If you're back at the store look for some Aunt Lydia's #10 Bamboo yarn, I think you'll like it more than cotton.
Yes we were. It would get darker and thinner for some reason. It happened on the second half of the refill and it also changed taste..sort of nasty.

We are planning a get away in early November and I will look then. Our local stores (Joann's included) do not carry bamboo yarn. Is that an actual yarn or crochet thread? What do you think about the cotton/bamboo mix? I am using a 100% cotton yarn #4 from sugar and cream. It should be dry enough to try tonight.. I hope and barring anymore daring raids!

juice. My trusty menthol, going to get some 6 ml samplers: Berry Blue Mix, Peach Cobbler & Strawberry Peach
(can you tell I like fruits???). Is that enough, or am I leaving something out?? I'm so excited!!

Whoot! Vape mail is just another fun part of vapin'. It keeps me young too. Each time I get a package I get a bit of that 6 year old kid feeling on Christmas morning opening the a gift box. (Yea I know I paid for it, Yea I know what's in the package, but heck yea, it's still fun)

When I notice my juice starting to get dark I vape the tank pretty much down, dump the remaining dark juice and clean it. Doing a dry burn, rinsing and maybe even some more dry burns for good measure should help a lot. I haven't had my darkened juice change flavor too much. If it tasted bad I'd dump it. The discussion I remember was that the darkness is from carmelization of the juice and it concentrates the lower the level gets in tank. I think some juices do it more than others.
What he ^ said!! Now that I'm pretty well stocked and settled on what I use, I miss the anticipation of regular vape mail. I did get something new to try last week: CE3 Gianto 3ml Bottom Coil eGo Tank 2.4-2.6ohm. While it is convenient because it holds 3ml, I think it mutes the flavor of the juice pretty much. It puts out lots of vapor and seems to work best for me at 3-3.2 volts. I doubt if I'll get another because the T-2 works well for me and the CE3 is also hard to beat.
Always exciting to get new stuff in the mail!! I'm waiting for some DIY supplies to arrive so I'm gonna be stalking the mailbox too. I hope you enjoy your new stuff and I hope I don't mess up mine!!
I think the Gianto is the Phoenix 3 ml. I loved the vape from it, but after a few tanks I got awful burnt vapes and couldn't get rid of it. I finally gave up. If you like the bottom coils I think GotVapes is going to be getting one that I think is called the X2-T3. You don't have to fill it from the bottom with a syringe. I'm not jumping on it until I hear some reviews because I've been burned before and I really like my mini vivi novas, but wouldn't mind having some if they really work since they'll hold 3 ml.
I will learn the Twist as I go, and all the great stuff to read around here.

needs a break! I was thinking of ordering more trial size juices, to find a few I like,
but I got started with a few fruity ones.

You and me both!! I really hope either the raven when it finally hits is right, or this other thing works good. But will definitely see what folks say about em before jumpin on either one. Still haven't tried a mini vivi, but sure do like my full size ones. Just would like it better if it was bc. lol

They're about middle of the road for pricing, but my fav is strawberry pie from vapor bomb. However, soon as gotvapes gets the pina colada they're working on up for sale, that could be my new fav!! I won some in a contest, and oh my goodness it's amazing by itself, and for mixing with other juices!
