Another bump to show off my new and improved tactical light: The Eagletac G25C2vn custom upgraded by the infamous Vinh Nguyen.

Vinh ups the amps of the stock driver from 2.8A to ~ 4.8A, re-does the switch, and adds heat sinking tweaks/ability. Now it's nearing 1500 lumens and beam/tint focused. It also has his custom "V54" engraving on it. :D

In it's category/class (small tactical), Vinh's version of this light has to be the absolute best there possibly is. Having owned the stock version of this light, I can clearly see where his improvements are. This is amazing work. The tint and beam are PERFECT. It's fine tuned and pushed as hard as the Eagletac driver/UI can be, and I can't emphasize enough how awesome I think the Eagletac UI is.

Cheers

Hey Funk, care to share where one could acquire one of these and the before and after specs.

Some 3 X AAA will take an 18490/18500 in place of the 3 X AAA carrier. Out of curiosity, will that one?

I don't know if you can substitute an 18490/18500. The reviewers on Amazon might say. If you also have the Opus recharger, 3 AAA batts is just no longer an issue, and they last forever after recharging. Very much different from the older rechargers.

Just bought one of the $8-shipped (from china) Ultrafires from amazon for my lonely efests...

and bought some cr123's from battery junction (12 pack for $15 shipped) to resurrect my streamlight TL-2!

Also, my reo's and I are loving the xtar VP4 charger and the AW 2200's I received from RTD a few days ago! :)

ETA: btw, Funk D, that eagletac looks killer!

Very nice built4feel!

To be honest, even the cheap lights are very nice indeed, and a great place for 18650 batteries to retire to. We've got piles of them around, why not right? Light is one of the things that separates us from most animals. :D

Being an audio engineer, there's a bit of the flashlight hobby that really appeals to the "geek/nerd" in me. I got systematic with it, buying a P60 format host to try different emitters/syles out cheaply, and then based on those experiences I'm now searching out a custom collection of the categories I want: A tactical, a flooder, an EDC, and a thrower. After I complete this collection, pretty sure I'll just stay on top of things in general and maybe trade laterally for a similar light in the same category in liu of having a shelf full of lights that never get used. I am practical, after all.

I've got the tactical, the EDC, and I am patiently waiting on the flooder being built as we speak. I won't have any real practical use for a monster thrower until spring-time when camping season starts up again. There's simply not enough room in my hood to truly stretch out a throwers "legs." So I've got plenty of time to sit back, research, and wait to see what develops on the field regarding that purchase. (not a bad thing, as throwers tend to be the most expensive/most tweeked out lights)

Cheers

If you guys want a really good EDC, check out the ThruNite Ti series. 80 lm from a AAA. I have one on my keychain and have given them away to family and friends. Olight i3 is another great AAA light (I have a few of these too).

I have a few tactical lights that use 18650's but the ones I use most are the single CR123A lights of which I have 5. My current favorite is the Olight S10 with a side button and magnetic base. I use Tenergy LiFePo4 RCR123A rechargeable batteries in all of them. I upgraded my charger to a Nitecore D2 and it can charge LiFePo4 batteries so that's a plus for the charger. I also have a few 2x AA lights (one in my truck) because you can get AA batteries anywhere. They throw about 200 lm which is more than enough. My 18650 lights are from 500 to 950 lm but rarely ever need that much light.

Credit for this idea goes to Super x, when he mentioned looking for a flashlight that uses 18650 batteries I though what a great idea. I always have plenty of charged 18650 at the ready.

Did a few searches and wow the world of flashlights gets deep quickly and they have crazies ( I mean devoted aficionados) just like us, talking about all kinds of ways to mod them and the best to get. Prices can climb into the hundreds.

I found some very nice ones in the 50 to 100 range but decided I need to save money for the Woodvil sale, so I'll just go cheap and see if it's something to invest in later. I got this light for under $11 bucks and I'm amazed at how good it is, nice and bright good throw and beam spread, well worth the price.

The i3 is a good little light. I almost added a Ti to my order when I bought my TN12, but decided I'd give the TN12 a few months to convince me Thrunites are worth while... I have a few AAA lights. I keep a fenix LD01 in my tool bag, but it rarely gets any use. My wife has a fenix E01 on her keychain (it came with my LD01). She uses it a lot and it has proven durable. -- I always have a Maratac AAA clipped to the tool pocket under my hammer loop of my dungarees. - It often isn't the only flashlight I'm carrying, but I always carry it. I'm pretty sure it is the same as the i3 and the old ATP A3 EOS, but I like maratac even at nearly twice the price because of the aggressive knurling. It's the easiest to operate AAA of any I have because of that knurling.

I've had the Ti on my keychain for almost a year and it's rock solid. The knurling is aggressive enough w/o feeling like sand paper and easy to use one handed with no chance of turning on by accident. The i3/ITP A3/Maratac were too easy to twist and twisting it on/off/on for med was getting old. I sold my Fenix LD01 because you had to use both hands to turn on and off and it was really heavy (I had the SS version). I still have an E01 but I never use it because it's so weak (10lm?).

The UI on the Ti is awesome. You twist it a bit to get low and keep going to get high. It's 2-3mm longer than the i3 and the body is more substantial w/o much more weight.

I have a Solarforce L2 host with a Solarforce M3 head from CustomLiights.com with a red emitter on my AR for coyotes at night. Good throw out to 175 yards in a tight beam. The other is a Zebralight H600FwII headlamp which is great for walking after dark, plowing snow on my ATV at night or working on anything in the house/garage where I need two hands free. 5 Modes Hi-Med-Lo, beacon strobe and moonlight. 5 clicks flashes the light 1-4 times to show battery life. My favorite by far. I have a few Chinese clone type and they're good too but not used much.
