Yeppers! Got that email, too! AND the shipping notice! WOOT!! Do you really think the + model has the ohm checker? Oh, wow...that would blow my mind! But won't count on it. I'm just really excited to be getting a "bonus" unit. Too cool! Now if that juice sample is something hubby likes...that'd be over the top. I only vape my DIY menthol, but we're always open for juice the old man might like!

That email made my day...I'm stoked!

Me too. Even if it's just the "old" version I would be perfectly happy with that. Backup devices are never a bad thing. We'll just have to see about the ohm thingee. I've not run across any other place calling the new version "V8+".

You can have my jooz sample! I have "issues" with PG so I can't use it. When I ordered the Ovale I scanned their site and they don't sell any liquids with a 100 VG base. Let's see what we get though. If it's something like "banana menthol" chances are it won't be going anywhere...

BTW: What image hosting services do you peeps like? I need to sign up for one 'cause I know Dragonbone is gonna want pictures! And if there is any real difference in things like the battery door now will be the time to post that.

All depends on the flavor Rick! I'm out of the loop...as mentioned earlier. I'm strickly vaping MY recipe menthol! But if it's a flue cured tobacco or a Marlboro clone flavor...hubby is in! Neither of us are into dessert or fruity stuff. Neither of us are fans of VG, either! We like mostly PG, but I do put about 15% VG in my DIY to enhance vapor production.

I'll be interested in what AVT says in reply to your email!

Just use imgur.com. So easy, and you don't even have to get an account. You can drag & drop a photo or upload from your computer, either way. :)

...And Eric at DV says they redesigned the battery door. I want to see what's going on with that.

I have a Ovale V8 I picked up in the Classifieds a few months ago. Last week I received an Ohms-Checker model from DV. I can tell no difference in the door. Mold marks and all look the same. I don't think there is anything deficient about the door on the earlier model.

That's what I figured - I really wasn't expecting any change in the body at all. But Eric @ Discount Vapers said "The door has been fixed, it goes off/on easier without a problem."

So I was wondering what was going on there. Me - I never saw the battery door on either of my original V8's as a problem.

I forgot you started that thread. Everybody go look and scroll up to the first message or so and check out Dragonbone's cool stash! I like the boxes with the serious do-overs.

And here... I may be one of the very few who got a V8 in that cool mid-century blue (aqua) color. In the matte finish. That color, combined with the V8 body design, really rocks! That is, if you are into mid-century modern. I don't think anyone has posted that color yet.

Promise! After I get the new v8's I'll put them on parade and post photos next week.

Next issue: Now that my V8 Ovale's are enroute...I am in need of spare batteries. Do you realize that nearly every place I've looked is sold out of button tops that are 36mm or less? It's awful! I believe, from what I've seen here, that for the V8s you HAVE to have a button top? Did anyone clarify that? And can someone PLEASE tell me a reliable vendor who sells GOOD rechargeable IMR batteries in assorted sizes who actually has them IN STOCK???? HELP!!!

Ok, this buying from DealExtreme isn't for everyone, but this is what I got and what someone else on the thread uses:

I never got an answer about the batteries included in the V8 kit, as to whether the 18350's are protected or not. (They don't look like protected cells to me.) Having a healthy paranoia I wanted to get protected batteries. So I bought these protected TrustFire 16340's at $5.40 for a two pack: Ultrafire LC 16340 3.6V 1000mAh Protected CR123A Batteries (Pair) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

They work fine, but have a shorter run time because of the slightly smaller size. (Maybe about an hour to 90 minutes less.) I don't have my digital caliper with me, but these are the tiniest bit longer than the original batteries so they need a bit more care when inserting.

Going to the "dark side", someone else in this thread got these unprotected UltraFire 18350's off eBay. These are the same one's at DealExtreme, $5.80 a pair: UltraFire 18350 3.7V 1200mAh Batteries (Pair) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme

I would still really like an answer about using unprotected batteries in this thing. And if the 18350's that come with an Ovale are protected or not.

About DealExtreme in general: Great prices, free shipping, but not the place to go to get anything in a hurry. This stuff ships snail mail from China - four week minimum for deliveries.

Thanks!!! Bookmarked the page. I'll be wanting more batteries after the first of the month. Meantime...since you say they work (I thought I read here somewhere that they didn't fit) I got a couple of the 16340's button top at MVS...I had some points accumulated, and already had an account there. I just wanted to be sure that when I give hubby the "spare" V8 that he had "matching" batteries so he could use it!

I'll stock up on all the batteries after the 3rd....apparently that site you linked specializes in carrying them!

Oh yeah...I thought I read somewhere that the VV devices like the V8 have built in "protection"...and that it's best to use IMR batteries. So that is what I got. Maybe it was Eric was talking about that? I don't remember. But anyway, it should be fine. I use both IMR and protected batteries in my VV Gripper and have had no problems at all.

They are 3.6V, that's why they have short time.

I'm using this batteries, I ordered few days ago one more pair and they are far more better then stock blue batteries.

They have protection, but still protection electronics can die, my friend bought protected Trustfire 14500 from ebay and protection had broke (I think during the first charge), battery almost fired up, he showed me what remained from it.
Conclusion: you can safely use any batteries which can fit in V8 ;)

DealExtreme? Specializing in anything? Here, perhaps you need one of these: Novelty Dippy Drinking Bird - Free Shipping - DealExtreme lol Dangerous place - you can get lost wandering all over that site.

The 16340's I got, specifically the one's I linked to will fit. But be aware that unlike our ancient AA, AAA etc. "standard" size batteries there seems to be nothing standard about 3.7 volt battery anything. The ones I got fit, the ones you ordered...? One good thing about DealExtreme is they do give battery dimensions - which is pretty durned important for a lot of PV's that have very little tolerance when it comes to battery dimensions. I checked the size of all the protected 16340's I could find on DealExtreme - these were the only ones not hugely longer than the original V8 batteries. Caveat emptor. But at least DX lists battery dimensions - something I find missing at almost every USA e-cig web site.

Even then, some times what DealExtreme gets for evaluation isn't what their supplier delivers. Check battery reviews before ordering. Occasionally you will see a complaint in reviews about battery dimensions being different than stated on the site. And every so often a bad apple slips in and you see a ream of complaints about a particular battery being a real ....... knock-off. DX doesn't tolerate that and does pull bad stock if people start complaining. That, of course, has happened to USA e-cig suppliers too.

Just want you to be aware of what you get into. If you select known good batteries - things we have all been using and US sites are already selling - things are ok. Some of the weird brands are just crap - and the reviews reflect that. I've been getting my TrustFire 14500 "red flame" batteries from them for my box mods and they have been working just as good as the ones I get from USA vendors.

I've have two Ovale V8s units. One was purchased used and came with two sets of generic, button-top 18350 IMR batteries. The 2nd I purchased and purchased two sets of eFest 18350 IMR batteries.

In general, IMR batteries are not protected. Their 'Safer Chemistry' is supposed to make them less prone to exciting unexpected events. Thus the protection circuitry is not added to them.

In the case of LiIon batteries with protection, there is a circuit added in the make up of the battery. This adds additional length to the group of cells that make them up. In many cases that use IMR batteries will not have the room for protected LiIon batteries.

XX.XXX designates the size of the battery. In the case of 18350, they are +/- 18 mm in diameter and +/- 35(0) mm in length.

I haven't studied batteries enough to claim any special knowledge about the safety of either system (Safer Chemistry vs. Electronic Protection).

I suggest being certain about the length of 18350 batteries in the Ovale V8. Batteries vary in length by protection/not and by manufacturer. I don't know that protected batteries will fit in the V8. Perhaps XX340 batteries with protection, if there is such a thing...

I always use the AW 18350's, and they work great. :)

I get them here: Super T Manufacturing, Innovative manufacturer of electronic cigarette products. (Remember to use Coupon Code "SUPERBAD" for 5% off your battery and charger orders)
