Actually...we have that $5 multi-meter thing from Harbor Freight! Got it a few months ago and we do use it all the time. I also got one of those little volt meters that screw onto the battery. You can check the battery voltage both under load and not. Nice little gizmo.

As for the ohm checker...it's amazed me how wildly they can vary. I recently pulled out one from a box of 2ohms that read 3ohms and had never been fired! It was a Boge. Others in the same box averaged 2.2, which is about right. I've had some come out of the box new reading as low as 1.7..supposed to be 2ohm. When I've run the same 2ohm in a tank for many days the resistance will eventually start going up. When a 2 ends up hitting 3 I figure it's about to croak. Obviously I have to adjust my volts up as the ohms creep up.

Naw...hubby's okay. He is just concerned when it gets to this time of month because of the budget. He doesn't mind getting new vaping toys...he got a new Squire and an eGo T mod mini tube last month..and a few other goodies. I got some, too. But we try to stick to a planned "wish list" made during the previous month. Getting the V8 at this time is a bit risky budget-wise, but like I said, it'll be that much less comin out of the budget next month. It'll even out. Now let's just hope Murphy's Law doesn't strike for 2 more weeks and we have to stress the funds due to an emergency something or having to fix something neccessary or something!j

If I like the V8, I hope to get another in the updated version from Eric at DV maybe the first of March. Those built in ohm checkers are da bomb!

The newer, Ohm-metered model defaults to 3.0 Volts.

Yay! That's good to know.

It makes you wonder, when "the committee" makes these design decisions, who thought 5.0 volts was the Good Idea winner of the year for the original design. I mean, if you could pick any default voltage between 3 and 6 volts, who was the boob that jumped up and said "Five volts!"

Small world, ain't it? lol

I got in on a co-op for an ECD meter so that I would have one that could correctly test PWM type batteries - like JoyeTech - as well as everything else. It cost more, but then again I only need to buy one.

Yeah, that's the typical route that SR devices go as they age. But LR devices can and do go the other direction in use. When folks who really don't know what they are getting into buy 1.8 or 1.5 ohm devices, slap them on batteries for weeks without checking them, and then end up with dead batteries or even worse (exploding batteries) it's really... both scary and unnerving. Scary that it happens - but if you ignore the laws of physics... And unnerving, that LR stuff gets blindly sold with no precautions, warnings or advice from the places selling it. Bottom line: the closer the devices goes to a zero resistance reading the more the battery sees that as a short. And shorting batteries is never a good thing.

Then there's that whole quality control thing that you see. Yeah, I've seen that too with cartos. I've had boxes of five 2.0 cartos range anywhere between 1.6 and 2.2 ohms. And if "SR" cartos have that bad quality control, god forbid what might be found in a box of LR cartos.

'kay - I didn't mean to be picking on DH. Looks like you two have the vaping budget worked out - lol. Suggestion though: Did you say you had a pile of 18650 batteries on hand? You might want to pick up a JoyeTech T2, example here: * JoyeTech APV Products For $22.00 it's A good deal if you already have the batteries & charger. It's a "sorta VV" having 2 modes: Fixed 3.7 volts, or unregulated that runs at whatever voltage the battery puts out until the battery protections shuts it down. Can charge the battery in place with a standard eGo charger. Solid build. If you already have the batteries on hand it's a good budget option.

It's on my list too! Have to see if Eric got it in any colors besides "Henry Ford" black.

I have this and it is my primary vaping device. But it does not work on 3.7V, it is 3.3V regulated. I'm using it with mini did clone and it works perfectly. There is a new version with flat top head, i must buy it: ego-t new head
But i never go out without V8, after more then 6 months it works without any issue and it is my backup device, also excellent for testing new attys/carts/clears.

We have the eGo T mod upgrade APVs, too! It's hubby's main vape and one of my top favs. Ours works with the two modes, about 3.4v regulated (eGo standard reg) and unregulated. I've seen the 510/eGo control heads (what you called flat top) and am really liking the look. Hope we see them becoming more available soon!

Hi. AIRC from posts you got an early version when they first came out? The ones in the market right now are actually 3.7 volts in regulated mode. That's what mine meters at and it's been confirmed by other recent purchasers too. And TVR as well.

I don't know what that thing is GotVapes is selling - nothing much about the product description matches the T2 I bought at TVR. (Yellow and white status LED vs. Blue and tan/brown LED. Mine fits an eGo charger just fine, the GV version requires a 510 to eGo adapter to fit onto the charger...?) Sounds like a knock-off. And for whatever reason GotVapes is listed as "unauthorized" at JoyeTech. http://joyetech.com/about/copycat.php

And we're going waaaay off topic so I'm gonna shush myself before I hear from Dragonbone about it. lol

Actually this is old version. There are 4. versions till now. First two with soft switch button, third version with plastic button in the line with head and last one for my previous posts in different shape, better for tanks (looks nicer).
I didn't have first version, maybe it has higher voltage output and different led colors, but lower amperage. I have 2nd and third, i"m using them at 1.0 ohm and i can't get more then 3.1V at 1 ohm. Never measured on higher resistance attys. 3rd version is best for me, it has better quality switch and i think it even hits harder, only disadvantage is this switch which is inline with case, because of that it rolled out from table to floor many times. But it still works. Here is the picture of version 3 (because first two versions have a same look, this one is often marked as v2):

Got a notice my Ovale V8 ships out tomorrow morning! YAY! Today's a postal holiday...so I didn't expect it to ship out today. Now I just hope I get it in the quick time others have mentioned here!

Me too. It was actually more of a "not shipping notice" - lol. Arizona Vapor Trails really didn't need to do that - we all pretty much knew today was a non USPS Holiday - right? But it does give you an indication of their customer service level that they even bothered to check in and let you know what was going on.

I'm sure there will be e-mails with tracking numbers to follow on Tuesday.

Hay! Ms. Rok! Didja check your e-mail in the last couppla hours? This is what I got:

We are sending your order with the original kit you ordered plus an Ovale V8+ unit for free and a free 12ml bottle of fluid. There is an ego adapter in the original kit. I would suggest throwing this away. There will be a new one on the extra unit you can use. We suspect this was the issue that caused us to place this item as discontinued. Please do not over tighten any parts on your kit to ensure a long life.

Yay! Double Yay if "V8+" means it's the ohm checking version.

I'm sure you got the same e-mail. So we're still friends? Right? lol

I have no idea what they are talking about regarding the "ego adapter in the original kit" and what possible problem it might have. The 510 to eGo adapters I got with my V8 kits are fine. Have to wait and see if there is something weird about the adapter.

Goes on to say:

We are giving out these extra units that our manufacture sent us with the original ovale v8 while supplies last. If you plan on ordering another one with expectations of getting 2 units, please send us an email to make sure we have some left. We currently have 16 left and they are going fast.

But... as you noted the V8 is no longer on their site, in any version. So again - no idea what that means. Right now, you can't order any V8 there. Will e-mail and ask. If they really want to lose those last 16 I'm sure are some folks on ECF that would be willing to help the cause. :D

Yeppers! Got that email, too! AND the shipping notice! WOOT!! Do you really think the + model has the ohm checker? Oh, wow...that would blow my mind! But won't count on it. I'm just really excited to be getting a "bonus" unit. Too cool! Now if that juice sample is something hubby likes...that'd be over the top. I only vape my DIY menthol, but we're always open for juice the old man might like!

That email made my day...I'm stoked!

Now I totally regret hesitating when I saw "One unit left." Congrats you two! :D

Shoot - so it wasn't you who got the last one.

But stay tuned: I did e-mail Arizona Vapor Trail about that rather confusing e-mail. From what it said, they still have 16 of the "V8+" in stock, but left us no way to actually purchase any of them. Will post when I hear from them about what's going on with that. If it's just the body only - no batteries or charger - maybe I can wrangle them into putting them up on the site at a really deep discount.

PS -- I hope you can check back in here and let us know if you get the ohm checker on your V8s and how you like them.

Absolutely. Especially if it's the "ohm checker" version. And Eric at DV says they redesigned the battery door. I want to see what's going on with that.

Oh! I just noticed - you're from MA too. Hi!
