Ah, that's sad Cool. I hope someone here knows what the problem is.

At least I have my (non-Ohms reading) v8 backup. I also have a home-brewed box mod. I suspect the problem is board level and perhaps the main chip itself.

Many of the Chinese sellers do not specifically mention 'Ohm indication' on the units they are selling.

It's disappointing to see the Ovale V8 apparently go out of production as it is such a good value.

...good news!

I opened the V8 up and found the wire to the body of the connector had come lose. Apparently it was making contact enough to be able to be picked up by an external volt meter, but not enough to conduct current.

Problem solved with a soldering gun.

Yay! Good one :).

I recently had problems with my V8 not firing well, so I opened it up, cleaned it inside and then with a toothpick, alcohol and cotton wool, cleaned the 510 connection carefully in all the crevices. Then I re-glued the 510 connection which had become loose and wobbly back to the unit. Working as good as new again and fires every time.

That looks like the original version, but for $17, it's still a bargain!

Yes, original, I think...no Black seems to be available. I couldn't find the shipping cost without registering, it seemed.

I looked at the manufacture's site and they offer only minimum of 10 or 50 sets. Some of their text is confused with references to other models.

Is our favored V8 really dead and nearly gone?

Wow, I hope not!

I hope not, too. Although I only use mine for selective circumstances, I'd like to be able to suggest it to vapors looking for a portable, light-weight, V-V mod that is inexpensive. I have a hard time recommending it's closest competitor, the Smoktech V-V Gripper.

Here's a panel from a Sigelei web page promoting the '2013' Ovale V8.

If I interpret the content correctly, this model functions a little differently than past models. It seems as if pressing and holding the main button after an inital press(?) and then pressing button 2 allows one to scroll through a count of puffs, battery voltage, current from the battery, power (watts), output voltage and atomizer resistance. It is not clear if the V8 continues to set output voltage in the traditional manner, but there is nothing to indicate it doesn't.

It looks like development of the Ovale V8 is continuing and that they are readily available in China.

EDIT: In another location, I've seen this same picture with reference to VV/VW above it.

I like this little box, got the deal from Arizona Vapor Trails when they discontinued it. Been using the smooth black one (older style) mostly as a travel unit along with my Spinner. The newer one is just sort of waiting for its time to be put into service. I thought the older had problems and never expected it to last this long, these little things are like unknown gems, don't really hear much about them, but those who know them like them.

I too had thought Sigelei may have stopped making them, they have been busy with the Zmax Chip and mechanicals lately.

If I had been paying a bit closer attention, I would have gone the deal that you got.

Still, it seems a good value, particularly if one prefers a box mod over a tube. The 2 V8s I have are modified so as not to dance upon my desktop. Also, I prefer the 'buck' (down convert voltage) of the V8 to others 'boost' (up converting voltage). This keeps the current demand on the batteries down, though I suppose the significance of that is arguable.

A few days ago, I found some 18350, 1400 mAH batteries offered at an appealing price. They are protected Li-ion type. The specifications indicated that they are only 35.5 mm in length, so I think they will fit the V8. The pictures showed them to be flat top. I'll be interested to find if they are up to capacity, etc. They should arrive in a week or so.

I can't verify that Sigelei is still producing and updating, but it seems that way. The China marketing fronts seems to have them, but I don't find much at the dealers, US or other, though there are some. I've also seen that the legs an the display chip of that newest model are exposed through the view window. I'm taking that as a hint that the display may be smaller. ...now that I've typed that, I recall that comes from Discount Vapers, Eric...

"Here is my new review:
I LOVE it again, the addition of the working voltage and ohm resistance is a huge plus and they fixed the pesky short that was causing some Segelei's to fail and read 5.0 or just flash. The door has been fixed, it goes off/on easier without a problem.

I am now on board again with the V8 Frieght train! The only thing I do not like about it is the LCD, you can see the chip prongs, it kinda looks cool, not sure if it was intentional or they just changed the electronics and the screen was smaller."

While he doesn't mention the functions shown in the picture above, that does cause me to wonder. I'll send him a query.
