sorry. not getting the question.

How's the v-drop, kick, punch with the BeCu? So far, folks are reporting good stuff on the thread here. I've only had mine in for a few days., so I can't speak to longevity.

Yeah mainly the drop. X - puppy answered the question. I'm thinking of converting all my mechs switches to becu springs.

So, like, what would happen if I ordered some 4mm Sterling Silver Rod and tried to thread the ends and cut off little posts (ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh . . .IDK, say 3/8" long)?

Could I order it in some smallish quantity? (~2')

Could I run a die on it by hand?

What would I do for a shoulder (to keep it in the hole . . .. working against the spring . . . hold it in place)? Or some kind of cotter pin type solution?

What do you mean 'what would happen'?

It would cost you roughly $35 for 1 ft at 4.11mm diameter (.162 in) sterling silver wire (1.35 troy oz). So 2' would cost you around $70 (that's assuming shipping is reasonable). Current silver spot price is $19.75/oz, so it's come way down in the last year.

If you got dead soft grade, it would be pretty pliable, and would harden as you worked with it. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver/ 7.5% copper.

Not sure how big your screws have to be, but if you can get 20 more than 1/2" long screws out of a ft, and 40 out of 2'. So material cost should only be $1.75 per 1/2 screw including material shipping and cutting waste (1/5"). Then labor of course:).

PM me if you need silver dealers

You could order it in 1' quantities, don't have to start with 2'. Also... would molding screws be cheaper than machining? You could melt the silver and pour it, in which case you can buy scraps and not preformed flawless formed sterling, which would be cheaper still (approaching actual oz weight). Actually, you could probably hook up with a local jeweler. If you have the screw you want already, he can make a press mold and make you all the screws you want. Then you'd just have to deburr and clean them up:).

Also, the price I found is for CUT too, the length doesn't have to be cut, so my $70 figure was wrong, that's only the first foot, next foot is cheaper because it doesn't need to be cut again. If you do scraps, it's WAYYY cheaper.

I don't have a clue about electronics, but I know a whole lot about jewelry...

I will need to purchase it somehow . . . so I guess I would ask you for whatever info you can help with. Thank you, Glass!

Here's the thing, tho. I'm crazy up-to-my-neck right now. Trying like the devil to make these mods asap, VH and I are playing at being atomizer designers, I've got catch-up Ag/BeCu springs to snip and shape and bundle and invoice and pack and ship . . . .. . AAANNNNND, little screw-in solid silver button contacts will be mindlessly simple to retrofit at any time .. . . . . SOOOOOOOooooooooooooo, I'm not in a hurry on this.

i know a lot about paying for things!

But "Dibby's Smelting" has some mileage. My issue with this is where it's going - some parts of a Dibi are fairly static and just silver coating ought to be enough on those. Cast silver screws seems like too much work, for so little gain in terms of the v-drop.

Most of the time i just compensate with bigger batteries! :)

No:). I have some silver wire laying around for glass work, but I am not a silversmith. I know several top silversmith and several people who might be able to help mold you those screws too. You'd have to talk to them directly about that, but I still recommend local because you can just run by and see what they're making.

I'll pm you the cheapest silver source tho for what you first asked about.

Only for the button contact (the make/break contact where t-cad says is the real culprit, and, says he, tarnished silver conducts pretty good. . . . . better than tarnished brass or even still more than tarnished aluminum . . .. says t-cad). One small silver machine screw (headless). No, I don't think I want to mold my own. I cast a couple things in H.School, so I know what that's about. I think I'd rather buy the stock for a few dollars more and just thread 1/4" of it, nip 1/2", thread another 1/4", nip it at 1/2" . . ..
