A real "modders mod" for sure!!!! Excellent work turbo!!! As for the reinforcement, a metal band of some nature put on hot so that as it cools, it shrinks making a tight fit. Think "barrel strap" is this makes any sense. I wonder if you could make one out of copper or would it be to soft?

one of the biggest things I like about a regulated mod is being able to run much higher voltage. a sub ohm coil at 4v will have much less mass than an equally driven much larger coil at 7v+. I like at least 12-13+ wraps of heavy gauge wire, most I can get with the dibi is ~7-8 wraps of 26 ga, to get more power I have to sacrifice surface area, it's all a balance really but the higher voltage is easier to build and tune for I think

At what ohms are you looking at on that HV coil? And what gauge wire, I'm thinking of giving it a go.

In the HV microcoil thread I made a 6.5 ohms coil :D giving the vapor of a 16 watt 28 ga but at only 9 watts :D. The problem I realized is that the flavor was diminished. This is due I presume to the fact that thicker wires vaporize liquids that are on metal more than liquid on cotton. Thinner wire has very small amount of liquid on its surface. I'm trying now to find a way to solve that without using mesh.

There's some really nice ones on ebay but unfortunately the dimensions doesn't fit a Dibi. I've emailed a lot of sellers but none are willing to do a custom order / sizing - even when I told them I am willing to wait months for one. The process between cutting the burls, drying them, and sending in for coloring/ stabilization takes months that they forget the batches of wood they've sent in.

I've tried offering double or even triple what they go for but still no one is willing to work it out.

Goodjob Turbocad perseverance pays in the end :)

hey ValHeli i dont know if anyone's said this yet but that chunk of wood you have reminds me of the pictures of Darkmatter
BBC Universe – Dark matter: A chunk of the Universe is missing very cool :)

Nicely done, turbocad! Must hit like a monster!

Like I said, I had also thought about running a continuous length of copper wire; but it would eliminate the fuse from the circuit (and any option to use one). In the past, when I was thinking about a similar configuration, I had resisted the urge to employ it, as I felt it important that my mod be configured the same as those I send out to folks. This allows me to try options and modifications that everyone can employ, and to continue to put track time on the standard design. Nonetheless, it makes me very happy to see you playing, improving and reaping the rewards of a top-notch tinkerer at work!

I wanted to remind those who are still looking at all this speculatively (who don't have one yet), that the mod does come with an optional set screw for the bottom cap. This does a number of things. One being that of making the bottom centerpost contact, for all intents and purposes, solid. If one is a button masher, or wants to feel that that contact is always firmly seated (whatever the reason), just employ the set screw and those two parts are jammed together tight. (I noticed a blob of superglue in your magnet hole, in the pics of your modifications T-cad. This, I imagine, played a role in reopening this issue.)

The set screw also goes a long way to protecting the lip under the squonk hole. With the cap locked laterally by the inset magnets and then firmly screwed onto the bottom of the mod, it is very unlikely that any fall would damage that lip. If one is prone to such accidents or is taking the mod out on an adventure, they may consider using the set screw to protect the mod in this way.

In my thinking, the top connection at the centerpost needs no more complicated treatment than a .... joint; as the action of firing (pressing down on the button) only serves to compress that point of contact, and never to lessen it.

The last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from tweaking, altering or souping up their OliveR. I'm all for that. And I do love the stuff that T-cad is doing. Very cool! Also, tho too, I wanted to clarify that the original design of the mod already takes many of these factors into account. I've certainly made compromises in order to provide something that suits almost everyone more than sufficiently (but not every single person ideally); and yet, that's a key element in design, methinks.

Pdib I was looking at the tech info thread there is no info about these screws. Or did I miss it? Can you post some pics or something regarding their use (if no trouble)

Yeah, thanks aalwani. You're right. Around the time I was loading info onto that thread, I wasn't sure if the set screw was going to be a permanent design feature. It's actually the single most time consuming and exacting step (series of steps) in fabrication, or just about. (sure feels like it when it's time to do it.) I had surveyed beta testers and gotten feedback wherein 5 people saw absolutely no need for it (one distinctly wishing the hole wasn't even there), and 1 person finding it very useful. I decided to leave out discussion of it until I had more data. The little info. sheet that I send out with each mod does go over it. I've since decided that it really is worth the trouble . . . . . sometimes. Although a lot of folks still don't use it, some do; and we cant' know who "some" is until they've had their mod for a while.

I'll try and find or create some pics soon. If not sooner, I'll shoot some pics when the current run is at that stage.

In this pic, you can see where it lives: hole in bottom cap and threaded hole in mod body. It's a 3/4" 6/32 brass pan-head machine screw, with the head pared down in diameter to squeeze into the tiny footprint. The pan head seats in a countersunk, flat bottomed thru-hole in the cap.

Oh man that mod is dibi-crack hahaha that's the one that made me sign up for one before I even knew how cool it was!
