Projecting that far out is a wild guess anyway. October? (done mid oct.)

The previous run schedule was based on 10 mods per run right? Does this mean we move 1 run in advance every 3 months or so? I'm on run 11 if I remember right. Around when does that happen with the accelerated build process?

I'm not asking due to impatience. I just want to know when that wonderful hole in my wallet would be happening so that I can set aside funds.

Piecing together of a few of Pdib's posts. The next two builds will complete groups 4, 5 and 6. Then all of group 7 plus 3 from group 8 and so on with about 13 in each build, do that math, add holidays, vacations, etc.

Dismissing any breaks and if he averages a month per build group 14 would move from March 2015 to 8 in December rest in January.

Assuming two people drop or delay I'm hoping my 3rd in group 14 gets here this year.

Well, not exactly. I'd be willing to bet if you did this full time and increased your production rate, you would easily sell everything you made, and probably still have a waiting list. Maybe not as long :)
35 mods a month X + or - $300 per mod = a very comfortable living.

That's gross. Sharpen your pencil, now subtract, material costs, tool costs, replacement bit costs, electricity, taxes, insurance both personal and business and all of a sudden you're stuck eating a lot of romen noodles.

Yes, that would be a really nice living. However, you need to add in a few things..... For example, Pdib has already stated that it costs ~$200 to retool. This retooling is a "disposables" cost, and would cover things like bits, saw blades, etc. It does not cover the cost of the drill presses, sanders (I am sure that these mods are not sanded completely by hand),saws, routers, tables, lights, electricity, etc. These costs are not disposable, yet the machines do wear out. You cannot forget the costs of computers, Internet, telephone, cost of getting materials into and out of the shop. Not to mention the cost of floor space, conditioning that floor space (heat, air, vacuum system, water, sewage, etc.). So, even using your figures, that 10,500 for 35 mods does not seem so good. I do not know what all expenses Pdib has, but I would venture to guess that if he ends up making $10 per hour, that would be real nice. I would bet that he has well over $100,000 invested in this "hobby". If he has already invested that 100k, he will need to budget to replace that investment on a yearly basis at least. Using these very basic figures, he would have to work (and reinvest his total earnings) for 10 months out of the year. Looking at it in that fashion, a salary of $20,000 per year does not seem so comfortable.

Peter, I have seen some discussion here about natural voids that occur in wood, sometimes not visible until you cut into the block. My hobby is woodturning and there is a product called Inlace. It is a colored epoxy based product that can be mixed with synthetic rocks of different colors. I have used a turquoise color to fill natural voids on some bowls I have made and it's really beautiful. Sometimes I don't fill the voids at all since they can have a beauty of their own. Here is a picture of an ebony bowl I made and used black Inlace with white synthetic stone. image.jpgyou just slightly overfill the void before the final sanding, it's hard but sands about the same as the wood.
Posted wrong pic and it's sideways but the bowl I'm talking about is in the foreground.

Peter is probably already sorry he invited me to this thread:blush:
