OK, let me try to explain it:

Short version: The power dissipation in a resistor is equal to the square of the current times the resistance. This is all the fuse (being a low-ohm resistor) cares about: It's resistance and the current flowing through it. Of course if you know the current flowing through it and and its resistance, you can also calculate the resulting voltage drop across it, but that isn't necessary.

Long version: The fuse is very low-ohm resistor in series with a substantially higher-ohm load. Because it's a series circuit, the current through both resistors is intrinsically the same, and how much current is flowing is is primarily determined by the (relatively high) resistance of the load, where you will then find almost all of the voltage drop. If you do the Volts x Amps (or I^2 * R) calculation for both the load and the fuse, the load is consuming almost all the power and the fuse is consuming almost none (which is why it doesn't blow). Now what happens if we short the load? The current flowing in the circuit will rise until something limits it somehow. Assuming a perfect power supply and wiring, the only non-negligible resistance left in the circuit is the fuse. So that's where all the voltage drop is forced to go. You'll have a whopping current through (and all your voltage drop at) the fuse, which will then be "consuming" some crazy amount of power, which cause it to blow.

Incidentally, in the absence of a fuse (or other current limiting device) the battery becomes the fuse, but batteries typcally "blow" less gracefully than fuses do.

This makes sense. Very good explanation. Thanks

Well, I have yet to see a Dibi that I didn't find absolutely gorgeous... dark or light, smooth, lined, or burls, they've been magnificent. So, I have no preference in a particular wood... hit me with it, pdib... when my time comes with lot #5 =]

My transmission just went out in my car on the way to work today. I couldn't go over 20MPH for awhile, but it finally kicked in. Came home fine, but I need to hit the lots this weekend :/ My $1500 junker lasted 6 years... having a monthly car payment is going to be soooooooooooooo weird after all of this time LOL

So the Santos that I have is ribbon style (a name for a grain pattern / figure). Made a little vid to try and demonstrate how the light/dark inverts when you shift the angle. (not a very good vid . .. . it's much better in the reals)

Now that's a raging woodie DiBi!! :D Ya'll need to stop posting pics / vids till I do my laundry... I'm running out o pants

nice figure in that piece of 'hog …

Mahogany is (was, before Koa came along) and will always be a great wood for ukulele's because of its mid tonal quality; it rings out in mid-to high range vs. a softer wood like cedar, maple, spruce which accentuate the higher (treble) notes as witnessed in guitar sound boards; guitars being huge and benefiting from that wide range ….

errr… oh yeah we're vapin here… nice woodie dude

... combination mod / ukelele sounds plausible;)

Class act pdib!!! Thanks for the pics!!

Glassgirl, no need to mod the mod, forget the kick, anything you do to this mod will defeat the designer's purpose, and make it perform worse. It will come with a 10A fuse, leave the fuse in there. Just get a bottom-fed atty (RM2, Cyclone or reosmods IGO-S for example), some very good batteries, and use it as designed, and the world will be a very happy place :) Its that easy...

If I was the maker of these mods, and someone suggested they wanted to modify their mod before even receiving it, I would be offended, and cancel their order, or at best, put them at the end of the waiting list :) but luckily for you pdib is not me...

Yeah, it was singing pretty good with midtones as the 3/4" drill bit sank into it . . . .. ;)

*chants "walnutwalnutwalnutwalnut" *

So does this mean the ones we've been seeing are run 2 or did you get bumped up?

She got bumped because I had to give up my spot until my cash flow comes back around. :)

ha, yeah, lucky he's not you, I've been talking to him about modding my mod afterwards to electronic before it's even built too :D

honestly a kick could be done but not much benefit really, for me one of the biggest benefits of electronic vs mech is the electronic eliminates the mechanical make/break connection of the mechanical switch. something like a kick doesn't do that anyway, it's just an in series voltage control that still relies on the mech switch anyway, so not really much benefit while adding higher potential for interfering with the electrical path.

as long as you are still using a mechanical switch then it's going to be more efficient and reliable with no kick, especially since adding a kick will require you use a battery (18490)that only has ~ 1/3-1/2 as much reserve power as an appropriate 18650, that alone would make a kick pretty undesirable in a mod like this and would be counter productive in almost every way

It wasn't just medic, PDib said several people had to wait a bit longer for funds so gave up their spots. Glad folks have that option as funds can be tight when your number is up because life happens. :)

I would have had it but my GD windshield just up and shattered. We were sitting inside and all of a sudden there was a huge crash and I ran outside to figure out what happened, and the windshield broke! No rocks or any other sign of debris, all I can figure is the cold just finally happened to it. :( sucks to drive in the cold so I figured I would do that instead of getting my dibi:(

So how does that work - if one gives up their spot - do they just change spots with folks in the next group - or move to the end of the line?

Or does Peter give them an option of either/or depending on their finances?

I imagine you could do both. I mean I'm now in run #2 but I'm sure he would have let me drop further down the list if I had asked.

Wondering that too. Am I now in group 3? Do I need to sell my kidney now or wait a bit?
