I was curious about this one $7.43 Vortex Style Rebuildable Atomizer at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Vortex_zps86d6a383.jpg

Can't find a pic of the internals though to see how hard it would be.
If I could just rotate that middle shot.

There's another shot of it on the fasttech site that shows more of the deck... but I'd venture a guess that this is not as good as the other cheap-ables we've been looking at. Might be personal preference, but I don't care for thumb screws. Hard to get them as tight as they need to be and they also tend to come loose.

My nails are too long so thumb screws are definitely not my cup of tea.

By internals I was talking about what is inside here

The thumbscrews can be replaced and holes can be drilled in the posts for wire capture, but what and how the 510 center post connects to the offset positive post could make it a PITA to convert.
agreed or could be real interesting if the juice feed hole could go straight up the center between the two posts.

On the "me modding atties for some of y'all" front . . . . . I'm considering ordering a small batch of "starter atties". Y'know, IGO-S type thing. I've heard, in the past about a couple others from Fasttech. YK-somefin'-somefin' . . . .. . Phoenix V#2,723 1/2. . . . In any case, if anyone would be kind enough to suggest a nice, reliable, basic model atty like that. Not too expensive, so that I could ask a few bucks for modding them, and the Peep (end user) isn't breaking the bank. What was that YK-somefin'-somefin' one?

Lemme know if y'all find something.

will we get a discount if we order by the pound?

So, gdeal, that A6 is the one you modded and shared pics, right? It seems the phoenix-v4 is similar (is it?). Meaning, they both seem to be made with 2-part centerposts? An adjustable / screw-in 510, and an upper section? (if so, is the upper post section fixed? . . . . no it looks pressed in with an insulator bushing).

Well... It official. The Micro-Gen squanks!!!... I was able to drill a 1/32" hole to the side of the pos post. An o-ring from an old drip tip prevents leaking.

My favorite atty meets my favorite PV... at last!

I only finished drilling & re-coiling it about 10 mins ago, but so far, it's working like a dream.

Because there's no need for a reservoir in the atty itself, I can make a much shorter version for squanking. I should be able to try out a couple more designs over the next couple weeks. I'll keep you guys posted...

YAY!!! I'll buy whatever you mod that will work for the Pdib!!! Ideally, I'd like one that was as simple and functional as possible so not to take away from the wood.

YAY!!!

Kids, y'all need to know that the micro-gen (by Jasl90) is a powerhouse of an atty. I made some a while back and was blown away by the intensity of low end flavor I was getting (bass notes).

(he said favorite PV!!!!!)

Gosh that's a gorgeous pdibby!! Can you make a microgen 1/2 that tall? That's really tall isn't it?

Which makes me wonder if the pdib could bottom feed with a regular bridgeless atomizer/cartomizer??

yep. I mentioned that a little while back. I was running a carto to confirm it.

I'm going to ask what may be a dumb question here... but I haven't seen an answer to it anywhere else.

If I grind off the ego part of an ego atomizer, would that work flush on a 510 connector? I have these little Aspire ET-S atomizers that are both glass and stainless that I just love, and they are ego threaded. I'd like to know if I can just dremel off the Ego part and screw it right into a 510??

The one you're looking at is shorter than a standard carto (about 3 mm taller if you count the drip tip...).

1/2 the height... Maybe... Like I said at the end of the post, I can definitely get it much shorter since there's no need to make room for a juice reservoir in the squankable version.

It depends... If the atty only has ego threads, then no. You'd need an eGo to 510 adapter. If the 510 part of the connector is threaded, then yes, you can simply cut off the skirt.

Yes the pics I posted were the A6. The phoenix v4 is similar except it doesnt have the lip around the atty base and has hex screws. I dont have a V4 so I cant tell you about build materials or how it comes apart.

The A6 comes apart easily, is well made, all components unscrew. Yes it has a two part center post. The center post screws into the 510 screw. If the FT version is the Sailing A6 version I have, its should be well made and a bargain at $5.

I have an era clone... which is solid stainless. It's the one I would have wanted to convert, because it's small, and cute (looks like a little beehive actually), and very nice. It's also reasonably inexpensive (less than $10 once shipping from China is factored in).

Looks a LOT like the Phoenix A4, but it's not got the holes through the middle of the posts, but the screws are nice. Sorry for the juicy build pix, it happened to have Maja Ras in it and I didn't want to throw that out for pix:

Relative sizes (reference would be gdeal's 2nd from right esolid, which is on my left):

If you like this look, I'd be happy to mail you mine to see if it would be worth converting, then give you info to order direct.

Oh... and it hits so hard that I had to put it on an Ego-C to be vapable... LOL!
