Strange bedfellows indeed.
Amen to this!!!
It seems like always though, you have to pick your poison!
Btw I'm watching the CA thing closely since my son's job is moving him out there.
Thankfully he never picked up the smoking thing, but I plan on visiting often.
Don't want to break any laws or get caught smuggling juice across state lines!

...I'd rather pay the predicted CA tax than see Meals on Wheels go under, not to mention other programs.
Meals on Wheels is my favorite charity.

I guess I don't understand this. I thought we were trying to get out from under being deemed a tobacco product. Isn't this what they are talking about. Do I trust them not to come up with something we are not totally happy with...of course I don't, they are politicians but I was under the impression that Sen. Johnson was actually trying to do the right thing. It must be Rep Hunter you have a problem with.

@mattiem, my sincere, most humble apologies. I saw the name at the top and jumped to conclusions. I had just heard about the Meals on Wheels cut and a few others and was, for lack of a better term, extremely POed. I don't have anything, that I'm aware of, against Johnson or Hunter. I loath what Obama's administration did to vaping.

People in general don't need to like or despise a politician to laud them if they are able to overturn this BS. Millions of lives are at stake. I personally don't care who overturns it as long as it is overturned, not so much for me but the public at large. I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions. :(

Glad to see you back! Hope things are looking up. I've noticed the lack of protection from mosquitoes too, living near the river it's a constant bother.

For the CA tax, my interpretation(and that's all it is at this point) is that due to the timing of when the law takes effect and when the BOE reviews the taxes annually we're going to have a new tax April 1st of 27(?)%, which is based on the current CA $.87 tax per pack. Then, they're going to meet in April and figure out what the new tax will be based on the new rate of $2.87 per pack, and we'll get that new rate in June. That will be a wholesale tax, so if you purchase in CA it should be included in the price already. i have no idea what their plans are for enforcement on out of state purchases.

Also, I get what you mean about the other stuff. I flop back and forth between being single issue and my general socially liberal tendencies. I support removing vaping from tobacco, but not the dismantling of the FDA or other agencies, like the EPA. Now, not all Republicans support the current administration, and I really don't believe the administration cares one way or the other about vaping, if anything we might skate by on a general dislike of regulations period.

Strange bedfellows indeed.

Oh yeah, you have a bigger mosquito problem than we do. Bet our face-fly problem is bigger than yours, so than makes us even. I've considered buying cigs just to wave around my face. Can't stand the smell, can't stand the bugs...

Parents made it over the biggest hurdles so I'm kinda in awe. We'll see how it goes. Will have to make an emergency trip up there in about a week when they transition back to their own apartment. I admit it, they are a life lesson in how to grow old gracefully. What ticks me off, and what I've fought for since it happened, is people trying to push their own do-gooder agenda on them despite the harm it would do to them. Sound familiar?

Thank you for the CA appraisal. I missed the part about the April meeting. At this point we have almost no money left but I'm trying to stock up on the gaps. I've read all the threads (I think) but it's amazing what you can speculate about when the guillotine is about to fall.

I need to keep my mouth shut and just let you speak for me. :)

Amen to this!!!

For what it's worth, I fly in and out of the state with pretty much unlabeled unicorn bottles of juice in my liquids bag and no one pays any attention. Biggest label I put on them is, "BB 5." It stands for blackberry, 5mg. Fly with powered pudding, I know this from bitter experience, you'll be put under extra scrutiny. The powder often shows up as a liquid. I don't have any but apparently so do implants.

AwwwwwwwOOOOOOOOO! Who is s/he? It's poor ears. I  you for adopting it. I'll bet good money (not that I have any) that s/he knows you're the rescuer. May you all have a long, happy, energetic life together.

Deepest, sincere gratitude that you support and can donate to Meals on Wheels. It's not just the warm meal, it may be the only human contact these people have for a days to weeks on end. Some things just shouldn't come to an end. Vaping is one one of them.

The list of names was narrowed down to just a handful...

My wife preferred Cinder or Shadow.
I liked Noodles best.

We settled on Ember, because we could both live with that.
But I still like Noodles best.

Thank you, really. It is easy to lose sight. The absurdity of all this is beyond belief. Science should prevail here, not politics (or pseudo science). So many smokers are kids when they start, not like it's an informed decision. If vaping was encouraged, at least the experimenters could quit when they became bored. Or right, they wouldn't be paying taxes for politicians' pet projects. :(

Very cool. :) Pro tip: Ember will learn a second name if you use it when your wife is not around. Proffering treats boosts that name recognition. Awesome you are all bonding as a family. May Ember Noodle have a long, happy life with you two.

Les, it sounds like the tax is just for things with nic? I read it before but my brain has gone south at this point. (Went back to the thread but it devolved quickly.) My main concern is coils from FT. I realize you're just speculating on CA's piss-poor explanation. I could have 20,000 coils and not feel confident.

BTW, I made two small orders from FT the other day. I'm broke at the moment and can't even afford those now. My last took, unsurprisingly, two months to ship. These two, one with ego batteries and one with coils, took less than nine hours to ship. Both shipped over five days early. :)

Yup, as far as I know it's only products that contain nicotine, so e-liquid and pre-filled stuff. Coils SHOULD be fine. I'm also somewhat assuming that the collection on out of state purchases will be up to the consumer to report and pay, unless the vendor chooses to collect it, much like CA sales tax on out of state online purchases.

On a side note, have you bought any rebuildable tanks? You know, just in case? Or an RDA?

I have found with our pets throughout the years....The name they start with isn't necessarily the name the are always called.

Take my parakeet....He started out Peeper but ended up Rudy-Roo (I still miss that little guy and he has been gone for at least 15 years)....

Ted the dog ended up Moger but his sister Lady was always Lady. They came to live with us when they were 6 weeks old and we were blessed with their company for 14 years.

Mattie Marie....The little girl you see to your left answers to Mattie (Mattie Marie when she isn't listening when I call her), Petunia, little girly girl and even sweetie pie :D

BTW: Ember is a such a cutie pie. Wishing you and your wife years and years of joy with him/her.

What's wrong with Duncan Hunter?

Duncan Hunter is not your regular politician.

He's a Marine (joined the Corps after 9/11) and a combat veteran (2 tours in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan). He's also a fellow vaper.

I do have some rebuildables. Not that many but got them out of curiosity or because the price was irresistible. Maybe 5 or 6. Never tried them, they're for down the line or to help someone out. They are all bottom fill which I'd be a total klutz at. I have a bunch of the ones I've been using for almost four years. They work for me, we're all happy. Excellent question though.

We had a bird given to (forced on) us as a toddler that we had no clue as to what it was. The intent firmly was to release it back into the wild. It became enamored with a circling hawk.

It pecked at the wall if we left his cage too close to it. We dubbed him Pecker Head. It stuck throughout his life. I still feel so guilty.

Our dog is such a wuss in certain situations, you have to know a GSD to understand, he also responds to Princess.
Congratulations, Toots! :toast:

Thank you! One more year and I've reached my ultimate goal. I certainly plan to keep on going but I've thought for decades (and decades) that I would have made "it" if I went five years without smoking.

(Don't tell anyone but I'm on the verge of being smug. :D )

Excellent :) things are starting to look like they might begin to look up, I know, I sound so hopeful right? However, I still urge people to get at least one bullet proof setup. We will always be able to buy batteries, o-rings, wire, cotton.

It's been just over three years for me and, honestly, I feel like I could put down the vape if I really wanted to, maybe just pick it up for long car rides or things like that, but I don't want or feel the need to do that.

Four years is awesome, you've got this! Even in a worst case scenario, you've got this place, and friends here.

I'm thinking I should probably stock up a bit on cigs for my wife before April, another $2 per pack is a lot. She's been vaping more, but it's at about 10% vaping 90% smoking, better than nothing though.

I agree that he does seem to be on our mission and I applaud both him and Sen. Johnson for what they are trying to do for all of us. I was just confused by a reply to my previous post. I certainly wasn't saying that something was wrong with him.

First I get this:

I think we can repeal the FDA deeming regs and replace with Johnson-Hunter legislation in the next 60 days—Mark Block, Electronic Vaping Coalition of America

Trump Card
FDA Deeming Regs On Chopping Block

With a stroke of the pen President Trump could take vaping out of tobacco and do away with the onerous FDA deeming regulations. Yes, repeal is that easy but replacing the regulations could be much harder—a winning vote is needed in both houses of Congress.

After fighting the Obama era FDA with little to no effect, fortunes may be turning in favor of the U.S. vaping industry as President Trump begins to make-good on his campaign promise to repeal onerous regulations.

Standing ready with new legislation to replace the deeming regs is Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Duncan Hunter, backstopped by a dedicated group of political operatives with connections that run directly into the White House.

Vapers in America could use a win…will they get it? Find out—only on RegWatch by RegulatorWatch.com.

And today I get this from CASAA: again (said in the voice of Big Chief on street outlaws)

Before the weekend, a handful of new co-sponsors added their names in support of HR 1136. Some of you have already received an update from us asking you to send a quick thank you to your representative. Others are new to this list.

Please take a moment today to send a message of gratitude to your representative thanking them for protecting your access to vapor products. Take Action

Although HR 1136 does not solve all of our issues, updating the 2007 predicate date is a necessary first step in the larger effort of reforming tobacco regulations as they are applied to low-risk products like e-cigarettes and snus. Support for this effort from your representative will be vital going forward. Sending a thank you message is a simple and easy way of keeping them engaged. Take Action

Thank you,

Alex Clark

CASAA Executive Director

I know we have to fight on more than one front but to me this just seems like what happens everyday with our elected officials. Those that can do something about this mess are being pulled in way to many directions and I think it is just causing more confusion. If we don't stand together we will lose. It seems like no one can come together and join for the common good. I really don't understand why CASAA hasn't gotten behind having Vaping removed from tobacco control instead of having blinders on and just fighting for a date change.

Our last dog was named Sierra, and she came when called by that name.
We usually used it in formal situations.

But her real name evolved into Tummers.
Because of her propensity to beg for tummy rubs.
:)

She also answered to Stupidhead.

Do you get emails from CASAA? I'm not sure what happened, but I haven't' heard from them in ages. I even complained about it elsewhere on the forum...

I'm a member of CASAA and I used to get their email notifications about new CTAs--even after their forum fell into a coma. But now even the emails have stopped. I got an email thanking me for signing the petition and asking me to donate to CASAA even though I've been donating (automatically every month) for years and receive an occasional thank you note from kristin.

I know they are busy, but someone could at least inform us what's going on, where to find them, whatever.
