The domain would be less of a marketing tool for the petition and more something that could be put on a flyer that people could remember to go home and type in.

As would the tiny url with an explanation that it was going to change.org, I think... and a simpler route to the same thing?

a) I'll give you 5 dollars if you vote for bill
b) I'll give you a chance to win 5 dollars if you vote for bill
c) Here take this piece of paper with 5 dollars taped to it. The paper says vote for bill. The papers are being handed out in a crowed and anyone can take them.

c is clearly different than a + b. ever notice give aways generally have a way to enter without buying anything?

madvapes had the petition as their weekly contest. I'm not opposed to vendors doing that, I'm not sure it's a good idea as an organized part of the contest though.

Catch 22 really isn't it!....I just know that free give away's bring in the masses. It is the American way!

Heck, Ca, that's my backyard. The issue was they/we were trying to influence legislation, and the concern was about being a "lobbying group" subject to financial disclosure laws. Those are State laws - don't know how it would apply (or if!) on the Federal level - but the FDA is policy, not law. (Of course, as far as the RW is concerned, their policies have the weight of law....)

Lobbyists, unions and other special interest groups have been buying legislation for decades. I see nothing wrong if I offer a Schwinn Sting Ray bicycle for a winner if they sign a support issue...It is clearly not influencing a politicians vote. All it is doing is making a statement how we the following on a said petition feel.

yeah if you want to bride people you have to be really good at paperwork and getting all your ducks in a row. But of course, if you're really good at paper work and getting all your ducks in a row, or pay someone who is, bribe away.

Koch industries: We don't make your laws, we make your laws better...for us. You know the .01% ers.

I am torn on the idea of contests. I like the idea of getting the word out, and I don't actually think there is anything wrong with the contests themselves. However, I do see how they could be used to paint things in a negative light.

It's a touchy grey area that's for sure. I applaud madvapes for getting involved and I'll definitely support those that support us. We do need business and individual support since we're all in this fight together.

130 jobs at MBV lost to Washington state because of this same thing on a local level. That's nothing compared to what can happen if we lose on a national level. Tens of thousands of jobs and hundreds of businesses are at stake.

I see that ECF has another global contest and it is posted at the top of every main page here. Hopefully we can get that done once we decide that it is time to push this into high gear.

18,032 signatures as of this morning

I just bought www . vapingpetition . com - it redirects to the petition at change.org (if you're not seeing it, give it a few minutes - I literally just bought it a minute ago). It expires in a year, but I highly doubt we'll need it that long.

NOTE : I only got this to help out with printed materials, I strongly suggest everyone continue using the change.org link for online stuff because it is so recognizable. And you don't have to use this domain for printed stuff, it's just an option for a lot shorter (and easier to remember) link to put on fliers and business cards - if you want to.

If you're really short on space (business cards?) you can also drop the www and just put vapingpetition.com - that's the main reason I bought it, I plan to print business cards and leave them at nearby vape shops.

Edit - it's so hard to put a domain in a post these days without it changing it!! I had to add in spaces.

Now THAT is something simple I can tell my mother and other family members over the phone, that they'll be able to remember or write down. The other URL was way too long... THANK YOU for doing this!

I like the idea of printing up some flyers or cards and dropping them off at shops. None near me but in about a month we're off, briefly, for my parents' 75th wedding anniversary and will try to spread the word around and drop off some to vape shops.
I would suggest rallying for ECF to put up a notification.
And in the thread that the notification links to, put in an attachment that people can print off.

My only hesitation is that it might be too soon.

But my ultimate concern is that we don't seem to have the vaping community behind this.
I don't know if they are just not behind it YET, or if they've already decided it's not a good idea for some reason.

But we aren't seeing CASAA, SFATA, or Vaping Militia support.
And we'd probably need some of that support to get the various bloggers and reviewers behind it.

The one member of the CASAA board that I spoke to said she would bring it up at the next board meeting. I'm not sure how often they meet.

I think it might be too soon for the major push, grass roots is doing pretty well as is, though of course better is better.

I haven't personally contacted anyone from SFATA or Vaping Militia, not sure who or how.

The feeling I've gotten from some has been, this type of thing didn't work in the past, we need to focus on contacting legislators. To which I say, we can do both.

They never got officially behind my World Vaping Day thing. It is more in the line of "If you think of doing something, just do it." If they don't think it is a good idea, I'm fairly sure they would say something.

EVERY little bit helps. I think that this is worth the effort. All these things add up to a whole. :)
