SMOKTECH already improved the Groove since June. as for the accident i am very sorry to hear that i d like to know where did you buy the groove and ill have my distributor send a brand new improved groove or give you rufund. pls let me know asap. ill arrange.

The problem here is not the mods themselves its the Lipo batteries period they are even the protected ones a risk in the first place cell phones laptops ipads all are capable of doing exactly what this unit did in fact some have. Shielding a battery will help but is not complete protection and that's in anything using this type of battery. I believe these manufacturers need to pay more attention to how they put products together period. I for one wouldn't want something I couldn't change the batteries in at least something I would be using every day.

Its both really. The battery doesn't appear to be covered or attached well, so it hits against the mod.
That recall message was worded almost in a panic....
I was kinda surprised by this, I would think these guys are all reverse engineering each others stuff and I can't recall anytime this has happened with a box.

It appears that SmokTek has pre-dated their recall.

Been thinking about this also, I would tend to agree it was purposely predated. The email to their resellers about the recall was dated 4 days later, hit their inboxes Sunday morning I believe, catching the entire channel & user community by surprise.
Smoktek is doing the right thing with this recall, and losing tons of revenue in the process. I don't think anything like this has happened before, the usual method is a fix in 'version 2'....how often have we seen this with hot springs for instance. I highly doubt the predating, if indeed happened, occurred because of this burning incident in this post. Damages to the carpet could have easily been taken care of by Smok, and is a drop in the proverbial bucket compared to costs of the recall.
Id like to give Smok the benefit of the doubt, it could be just an honest delay in both communication to their channel, and updating their website. Or it could be due to another incident we have no knowledge of.
Smoktech issued a recall of the Smoktech telescope in 2012 due to the complete lack of vent holes. They then released a vented version which several people use and which is ok.
A recall has happened before.
Come to think of it in my dusty memory, I now remember discussing several months ago the stainless groove didn't appear to have any vent holes unlike the plastic ones. This was before the release, we were trying to confirm by pictures of the new model.
Hopefully you filled out the form here on ECF when that happened?

i would sue.. could have been a disaster.. house could have been burnt down.. just like how that lady sued mcdonalds for not labeling the coffee cups with caution of being too hot
Anyone having issues with the recall? I threw mine away after mine caught on fire, but my vender is saying I need to send it in to them (which I cant because i threw it away) for them to reimburse me...That doesnt seem fair to me. People with good grooves get their money back, but if yours had the problem that they are being recalled for, you are out of luck? Why would I keep a charred device? What gives?
