This post reminded me about something I have been wondering about. Is it best to put the batteries in the charger before plugging it in or best to plug the charger in and then insert the batteries.......

The reason I wonder and the reason I plug the charger in first......When I plug in the wall wart I always see a spark as it is going into the wall socket. When charging my devices with onboard chargers (various isticks) I always plug in the wall wart with usb charging cable attached because I am afraid that spark will have an affect on the charging circuit on my devices. Am I over thinking this? Is there a right or wrong way of doing this simple action?
I load the charger and put it in the charging bag before plugging in. I am always a little skert of the electric boogeymen, and want to avoid touching things that are plugged into the wall. I may be over thinking, but I just don't trust the boogies. o_O

Although I'm happy vaping essentially the same gear for more than 2 years now, I do believe the hobby aspect of it during the first year was an important factor to me in "getting over" cigarettes psychologically.

I've always believed that the hobby aspect those first two years of trying lots of new stuff kept me vaping happy with no relapses. Not smoking was always my first priority. For years now I'm perfectly happy using the same stuff all the time. :)

I've watched my grandson vape these past 15 months and something new once in a while has certainly helped him keep on vaping.

As far as chargers go, I always plug the charger in first before inserting the batteries. Don't remember who, but way back in the beginning of my vaping someone that seemed to know what they were talking about ;) said that was the best way to do it.

I can't remember ever seeing it discussed so was kinda playing it by ear and also paying attention to that tiny spark. The outlet I use most of the time isn't protected so that could be where the spark comes from but I have seen a lot of that from various products so it didn't surprise me to see it happening when I got into having to charge batteries. Expecting (but not always getting) that tiny spark has taught me to always plug in before turning on any electrical product.

I do put batts in first it weirds me out to touch the metal slider while plugged in

After my first month of experimenting, I stuck to dripping on a 306 for about 8 months. My variety and playing around was with colors. I didn't start experimenting beyond the 306 until I got a couple of bad batches of them and got frustrated. You know how bad the QC is on the 306!

I can experiment and play only if I have an absolutely reliable setup to fall back on. But, then I don't get around to it.

Because of that spark, I used to plug in first then insert batteries. But, I think I read on ECF somewhere about a year ago that the other way around is better. I can't imagine why though. I don't remember. But, I've gotten in the habit of inserting batteries first now, usually.

I wonder if Mooch knows.

In my somewhat superstitious mind, I try to avoid touching electric appliances with both hands if they are plugged in. Right hand to left hand completes the circuit through your body. Installing batteries is a 2-hand job, so I take the risk with the battery current only if the charger is not plugged in.

I may just be weird, but I still remember a HS science teacher telling us not to touch the electricity experiments with both hands.

I always plug first because the charger goes through a check cycle when first plugged in. Do not know if it makes a real difference - they should be setup to accommodate either way, but the problem in my mind is that I had to say "should" in my statement...

I guess I am lucky that one batt lasts me all day... It can last almost two, but I just rotate them every morning anyways - fresh batts are always the best...
One battery lasts me over a day too. I mainly use just my VTC mini. The battery in my Pico has been in there probably a week. It's almost fully charged. It's got a second flavor in the tank. I pick it up and vape maybe once every couple days. lol I'll usually switch it out once a week anyway and put that battery in my VTC mini.

I use each battery one+ days each week. So the 6 last over a week and get charged once a week. Clear as mud? lol

While not the same tank I quit vaping on - I am vaping on the same tank for a few years now myself...
Once I found my little SMOKAro 2 tanks a couple a years ago I considered that to be the end of searching for the perfect topper for me although I do have 2 gs-air mini's loaded up right now along with 5 aro's :D oops, I also have my unflavored in an evod glass. I've heard it said from time to time that variety is the spice of life. I agree. I don't think I could say that I have been smoke free for almost 5 years if I had been forced to stick to just one flavor all day long.

I usually plug in first.

I personally don't think it's possible to overthink when it comes to batteries, and I think that's a really good question.
I think the more informed, when it comes to battery safety, the better.

I honestly don't know the answer to that, and it might even depend on your charger.

Interesting question though, I'm glad you brought it up.
I'll check out mine, cuz I could be doing it all wrong myself. :)
Thank you. I agree, the more informed the safer we are. I have come to the conclusion...There isn't a wrong way :)

And DancingHeretik remembers reading the opposite :D hehehehehe and I don't remember reading either :D

It is an interesting question and the answers are food for thought.

grandmato5 read, plug in the charger first and you read just the opposite :lol::lol: I am beginning to think either way is the right way if it works for the one that is doing it.

I always plug first because the charger goes through a check cycle when first plugged in. Do not know if it makes a real difference - they should be setup to accommodate either way, but the problem in my mind is that I had to say "should" in my statement...
That is a very good point. I had forgotten about the check cycle chargers go through so one more reason to plug in first.

Since lots of us have our own way of doing it and both ways seem to work just fine I think we have all come to the conclusion...whichever way you do it is the right way.

I sometimes wonder about how the hobby aspect of vaping may have gotten in the way of it's original purpose - to stop smoking. I've been a hobbyist to some degree yet here I sit, vaping the same mod, liquid and topper that I did a year ago. Funny how many people got concerned about which way to vape, as if it matters. With my trusty vape beside me 24/7, I'm happy to be a non smoker.
I know what you mean. I don't think of myself as a hobbyist but as a vaper because I too vape with the same mod, tank and juice as when I started almost two years ago and don't plan on experimenting. This set-up got me off cigs and is keeping me off them and happy. I have no doubt, that as bad as smoking is, I would be a smoker again if it wasn't for vaping.

I remember seeing something about that check cycle too - maybe in Mooch's blog, cant remember - so I always plug in first too.

Same here, I just chain vape.

Me too! It feels like the vape doesn't leave my hand once I plunk my .... on the couch til I go to bed. It's only a 1.6 ml clearo and most nights it's plenty. I'm afraid to see how much I will vape when I'm using the provari/KFL or PT2 regularly.

Put it on the other side of the room and you have to get up - vape - go back and sit down and then get up - well you get the picture - it will help you cut back though...
