Nice Clapton! I may have to tear out my twisted 28ga that has been in for most of my tank's life and throw in a fused Clapton i have left over from my build the other night in my derringer.

I've been using Clapton's exclusively in my kayfun ever since I first tried one. This is the first time I've tried it on my sub tank, and I am very pleased with the results. The flavor is worth the effort :p

I agree. They are tedious to build but worth every second. My current fused are 2 strands 26ga nichrome80 paralleled then wrapped with 32ga kanthal. I'm glad I made extra hehe.

Do you have trouble wrapping Claptons after a certain length? Like 50% of the time, I don't have issues making a Clapton and others --- what a pain in the .... It overlaps, or it's not very tight, etc.

Any suggestions?

sometimes my hand cramps from holding the wire while its spinning and it might gap a little, but other than that, i can get a consistent wrap all the way down the length as long as i get the right speed on the drill.

I'm not sure but I think I'm getting more flavor from spaced, due to more surface area with the wick, am I right or just placebo???
Looks great. Tuck in all your little loose wick hairs with a tiny flat head screwdriver and form your wicks a little bit if you want. I use compressed coils as they don't get as hot as a spaced coil. Your wraps could be a hair tighter in other words when you are winding around your mandral make sure to get as tight a spiral as possible onto the mandral. Try different things, compressed, different spacings. Great start.

The trick is figuring out the right pressure to pinch the wire you are wrapping to the straight wire too loose and you get either a loose wrap or overlap, too tight and the straight wire will twist. Once you get that down it gets easy

I loved the flavor but couldn't stand the popping noise, it was too much so went back to regular contact coils

You don't actually get more surface area contact, you get more wick inside the coil, so more juice inside the heating area.... Higher chance of spitting :p

technically you do get a bit more surface area...
for example on contact coils your wick is just touching lets say 60% of the inner circumference of the wire as the next wire prevents the wick to "hug" a bit more circumference of the coils, with spaced ones your wick is free to hug a bit more of each individual loop thus giving you more surface area
