jj what is that rta you posted a pic of with the claptoned coils ?
If it was an RTA then it was the Billow v2. It's the only rta I own. I waited a while watching reviews and doing research to get one and I'm glad I did. I love this thing. Got two. One I have claptons in and the other twisted 28g. Great flavor and airflow.

not sure maybe try a 3strand braid or a nano dragon i dunno ive never thought about the noise before now LoL i vape around the 0.1ohm range and most are quite violent


maybe a diamond coil, just trying to throw you ideas

i notice how my coils are more noisy in the morning after they have been sat holding juice for some reason but then i use distilled water in my juice to so..
I think I've finally found a quiet build. The twisted 28g KA1 I have in one of my billow v2s is a reasonably quiet smooth vape. When I first used it I thought it wasn't working because I was so used to the loud popping and spitting of my other billow with claptons in it. I've built twisted builds before in rdas and I know they spit and pop, not sure why these are so smooth. I'm also not sure why my claptons are so poppy. I recently built dual 26/36 claptons in my co-worker's Troll for him and it sounds like it pops so violently and loud that I notice he's taking shorter hits on it than usual. Clapton help?

Loud pops are shorts. I get them all the time with my Ni80 micro coils because I never dry burn them. You might say next that you do dry burn your claptons and you still get pops; I think that's because nickel chromium doesn't form that oxide layer like kanthal does after dry burning it which minimizes shorts drastically. That's my explanation though. You could test this by making a kanthal only clapton.

I was gonna say that I do dry burn my claptons extensively I think lol. Because I'm meticulous about them and I work out all the visible "shorts" before I wick. I might be exaggerating when I say loud pops. I've heard a "short pop" before and it's not like that. It's just constant crackling when I vape it.

I might be exaggerating when I say loud pops. I've heard a "short pop" before and it's not like that. It's just constant crackling when I vape it.

May I ask why you don't dry burn your N80?

Yeah but the twisted 28g build I have in my other tank seems to not crackle at all. It's so smooth and quiet and it's about the same resistance as my clapton build (0.24 ohms).

Yeah but the twisted 28g build I have in my other tank seems to not crackle at all. It's so smooth and quiet and it's about the same resistance as my clapton build (0.24 ohms).

You have to take all factors in consideration and eliminate them one by one. Are you firing them with the same device, are they both using the same power etc. Also the clapton has many more wraps, therefore more tiny gaps between wraps. Maybe that's one of the places where liquid crackles on a simple coil and on a clapton it'll just be more and just louder crackles. I saw above about the spit backs too and agree they're disturbing and more over nicotine should not be ingested. Although I agree a few drops of 3mg liquid can be argued it's not much but what about the persons who vape like this all day. Maybe there will be someone coming along that will make a dripper that actually is efficient against that not just a piece of mesh under the DT. Something like a off-centered dome and then like a channel or something leading to the mouth piece. I don't think it's that hard to make something, it's just no one that thinks about these things

I mean, how does ingesting the liquid present more of a health risk than inhaling it, other than just allowing one to absorb more nicotine than usual in a hit? That's what a lot of people use as an explanation to justify dry burning is not a problem, but really that's not enough for me. And it's not enough for the other side which claim risks but don't have practical proof to base it yet. To continue my first sentence, I agree that especially now with temp control we are even more safe during normal vaping, but what about the first dry burn one does ( as well as the rest)? It seems they don't count :) Sure you don't dry burn at the melting temperature, but how do they know that even one dry burn doesn't change the contents of vapor compared to the contents of vapor coming from a non-dry burned wire? I don't expect that the contents of bare wire are any good for us and although still it is not known how many of them are present in the vapor I choose not to add more possible elements to the equation by dry burning. Also in case someone didn't read yet, nickel200 is considerably less resilient to high temperatures than the other two commonly used types of wire and that it starts loosing it physical structure at 600°F or 315°C. But why should one have to inhale and ingest at the same time. Don't get me wrong, for all I care anyone can take a bath in it while you're at it or if you want to go cheap put a bit in your shower gel. In any case, a device made for inhaling vapor should do just that and if it doesn't the should label it accordingly: Inhaling+ a small gulp of your ADV. It might be well marketed, everything else does lately :)

Do you think Kanthal is safer to dry burn than Nichrome? I don't have any temp control mods. And I favor fused claptons in all my rdas. Basically I use contact coils in all my atomizers. I don't know how else to get then glowing evenly without the "shorts" but through dry burning.

you are not ingesting nicotine by spitback; most nicotine in vaping is absorbed in the mouth, so with spit back you are getting those drops on your mouth and thus absorbing them there, there isn't enough liquid in the mouth to gulp it and get it to your stomach.
and by ingesting it means drinking more than a vape worth of nicotine, it is almost imposible to drink .3ml of any liquid, try it there is not enough to make a gulp, so the ingesting means much much more amount of liquid

I couldn't say really. The place I first saw drawing attention to dry burning was saying and still is, that oxidation is the issue and from what I gather from the forum kanthal is making more of it in the form of alumina(Al2O3). So from a non-scientific background and not knowing what and how much is in the actual vapor you could say nichrome maybe, but you don't know exactly. In any case let's not keep this going here, as I think I'm already looked at that I post here to discourage coil building and I'm not. I actually find some of the pics and builds quite skillful.

Edit: I do agree that, overall, should work on decreasing risks from e-cigs as much as possible. There is no comparison between an e-cig and a smoking cigarette and they must continue in trying to reach absolute terms i.e no risk
