that coil looks funky! but if it works then hey, it works. where did you get bubble stone wick from?

also, glad to note ill be getting my first mechanical soon and will be a pro with you guys. i have a lot of trouble working out hotspots when my damn pv wont fire below 1.2 ohms. got one worked out great at 1.5 ohms ive been vaping on for a week or so. once i get my mechanical ill burn through the rest of my mesh and wire and post lots of pictures for you guys to critique.

used peter k method using a 2.5mm knitting needle to wrap :p lol using kanthal a-1 32 g with 400 mesh, 2.5 ohms (had a ceiling fan blasting in the last pic but the vapor was good)

That is probably the most handsome wick I've ever seen. How much mesh is in there? By the time I get to .6-.7Ω I find I like to bring about 5" of 500 along for the ride. That, though, is with a 4/5 of 26g.

Wow thanks for the compliment. I fit as much wick as I possibly could while still being able to fit the wick into the coil comfortably. About 1.3 or 1.4" tall by 2.5 to 2.75 inches wide (straw wrap). I eyeballed it though and had to remove a little of the wick after I wrapped it, so I can't be sure of what exactly the dimensions are.

my Trivecca (aka Rainbow, aka phoenix v3) 6/5 wrap 28awg kanthol on 400 SS 1.0ohm. Wraps are touching. Amazing Vape.

Thanks jasl90!

I'm with Roman on this... Absolutely beautiful! Makes me want to break out my Phoenix clones again!

Are you finding that that you are getting more heat/vapor with less power?

Oh, and since you said thank you... You're very welcome! Great work, very well done!

I love those pictures. Artistic looking even.

I've also had luck with touching wraps. Many disposable atties, such as Cisco spec, have the wire wound tight. I hear a lot of people say to make sure the wires don't touch and have a theory for that. My guess is that it does effect resistance, but if all the wraps touch it doesn't matter and they will heat evenly. If only one or two wraps touch and the rest are spaced the difference in resistance between the coil will create hot spots, so either have them all touch or none.

To test if touching wraps effect resistance someone could take 2 wires the same length, wrap one spaced and one touching, and test if the resistance reads different.

Funny you should say that... It was me trying to figure out why my 1.8 ohm Cisco attys got hotter, faster and with less power than my the 1.8 ohm coils I was wrapping by hand. I noticed that (among other things) that I didn't see any space between the coils.

Pretty close. I've noticed that it has more to do with the "smoothness" of the coils. Any kinks or deformities seem to breed hotspots.
I can move the individual coils around creating small gaps without adversely affecting anything.

To test if touching wraps effect resistance someone could take 2 wires the same length, wrap one spaced and one touching, and test if the resistance reads different.
All you really need to do is measure the resistance of the wire before it's coiled and mark the termination points. I typically see a 0.1 to 0.15 ohm drop in resistance when coiled but I'm also rolling onto ss mesh so I'm sure that plays a role as well.

The "Peter K" style that eikon built would be the optimal platform to test with because it can be measured w/o the wick.

Also... What camera are you using to get those great macro shots?

it's running @+-1ohm, hits like it's around .7ish.

canon 60d with my good old fd bellows and an ef/fd adaptor :D fun stuff.

That is absolutely gorgeous
thanks!

My ProVari is on a pilgrimage to its birthplace for rebirth (as a v2) when it gets home I want to play & do some testing with the tight coiling. And I may attempt a MicroGeni...

Btw... Shooting through a magnifying glass, with a camera phone, works better than anticipated...

Do give us a performance comparison to your first build with coils spaced apart.
