When you're at a particular level, and the end of your potential plummet is a heart-stopping, bowels-emptying distance below you, yes it is still heights. Even if the start of your demise begins at -83 feet.

There are very few deaths though I think four or five died in Cheve and I think three died in the Great Lakes area due to what we call break down. There really are not that many deaths in the NSS, those going outside of the NSS are at greater risk.

The operative word being FEW, means a major NO for this fellah, that's for sure!

Yea, see that right there? In bold? That's me. I'll save people a ton of time by just not going there.

Here is the story of the Lechuguilla rescue. It is still not fully mapped yet and this was way back in 1991. She was part of one of the survey teams.

Explorer's Rescue Is Pressed in Deepest U.S. Cave

There is what we call show caves than there are caves. Show caves are the ones that have easy access to a portion of the cave, and are such that steps and walkways can be built and don't require climbs or crawls. Most caves are not show caves. Show caves are the ones that have public tours and usually 5% or less of the cave is suitable for the general public.

Some of the ones at Cheve drowned rather than being crushed or falling. At the time Cheve was the deepest known cave and they were still going deeper but that record has been beat but a couple of caves now.

Here is how people drown in caves, sometimes you have to get wet to get to another part of the cave.

You should have very high quality lights and have at least three lights so you have backup, the NSS recommends having at least five lights on you. You are lost without your light.

Oh break down is not a breakdown of the person. It is not inspecting a portion well enough and you disturb the area and parts of the ceiling fall on you. The one in the great lakes area was a rock breaking lose the size of a bus and crushing some people. The ones above didn't do a proper inspection before disturbing it.

Breakdown is a layer of the ceiling coming loose. The material might have been there for a million years but no one was there to disturb it. People go in without inspection and disturb it and things start falling.

More people die driving a car.

I'm sure you're right about that. But then at any given moment around the world, there are millions and millions of people driving a car. At the same moment in time, far far far fewer people are dangling from a rope in a cave.

When I was active there were about 10,000 of us. I think during my active time there were only about 10 fatalities most of them being Cheve. Those are pretty good odds, being a lumberjack is far more dangerous.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's great there are people like you who get a kick out of doing something like that. I will however, never be someone who would or could.

Ah, movies like that drive me nuts so I don't watch them.

I have a hard time with movies showing something what was not available in 1911 being used in a movie depicting 1911 and have to bite my tongue to not say anything to fellow viewers.

I hated really bad that the 300 had the help of around 700 Thespians and 300-400 Thebans. Sure they were still outnumbered but it was not 300. I think my tongue was bleeding.

I'm sure that movie would have me squirming as well.
Try thinking of these movies as an alternate time line - where our reality is their fantasy. It helps me because what person doesn't like to fantasize just a little bit? :D

I fantasize about things that can be done all the time. I don't need the impossible ones. :)

I took this tangent because of scratched gear :)

Yep, it was the scratch and dent comment. My mind went to the activity that put more scratches on my toys than anything.

I would take a Mini down there in a heartbeat but I also know it would get scratched. :p This was long before I heard of vaping or the word vaping was coined.

It's AstroTurf's fault because he said he was a scratch and dent kind of guy. He should join the NSS and get his stuff scratched up.

Her gear better not be scratched after that 400 yard crawl.

Better not get anything wet or dirty either.
Pictures like this give me nightmares and makes my sphincter pucker. Please do not post them anymore. Thank you.
