Proteus has arrived. Unfortunately the batteries I had must be bad because after detection I get orange light for 3 seconds then it won't let me do anything (lock change settings ect) So hopefully new batteries will resolve the problem.

It is much smaller in person than in pictures imho. Also much better looking and feeling then I expected.

Thanks @woita

Yes, same result, as shown in the video.

I do not think is related to the wire gauge, as it is inside the recommended values and the resistance is not that low (0.65 ohms).

When I received it, after a lot of tries, I made it work using Ti G1 26AWG.

Weird because at the end I just tried and tried with the same coil, just taking out the battery and inserting it back again, until it ended the detection process properly (with the Ti G1 26AWG).

It worked, but not consistently.

Yes, I have tried with other batteries (fully charged).

I suspect maybe it has to do with the positive pin (the adjustable one), as it not rises above the 510 connector when the rebuildable part is fully tightened, I have to unscrew the adjustable pin more or less 2 full turns to feel resistance when screwing it on the Proteus.

Maybe that could be causing contact problems, but I'm just guessing.

Maybe that's it.
However, afaik unscrewing the pin would lead you to resistance fluctuations which is something to be avoided for proper TC. So maybe, just maybe, your 26g only worked because the resistance was off due to the loosened pin.
Any maybe it is in fact lower on your 27g wire now as well. How do you measure? Some of my mods read the resistance 10% higher than it actually is.
I still hope for you that a thinner wire will help.

I had to screw my rebuildable part in really hard ( I cut myself doing so), too, to have the positive pin protrude a little. But it screws onto Proteus really hard and snug anyway, so I don't think it would be a problem if it wouldn't stick out.

Agreed, had the same feeling when I saw it in person. It's a beauty :)

Don't want to spoil your day. But, iirc a long orange after detection just means detection is done. It's the same long orange that appears when a new battery is inserted. It means "Vape me" :)
Does the button work at all? Could you lock/unlock/change settings before detection?
Good luck! :)

I measured it with different mods, all read between 0.63 to 0.65 ohms.

I have tried by taking out the o-ring of the center post, just to see how much can screw the rebuildable part in the base, same result, the adjustable pin doesn't rise enough above the 510 connector, that happens with both bases (old base with two holes, and new base with wide channels).

Today I added a small stainless steel washer above the delrin isolator, so the adjustable pin arises a little more, but had the same result.

I'll wait for the thinner wire, I hope it solves the problem.

Thank you @woita :)

So as I understand 2 second orange means it is done detecting 3 second orange means bad battery.
As for button working yes. Meaning with no atomizer when I first install a battery I can lock/unlock the mod or go into temp up or down. However once I install the atomizer (tried 3 different builds ranging from .52-.73 using 26 and 28 awg titanium) I get the blinking red lights for detection and after a while I get a long orange which I time out at 3 seconds but maybe I am timing wrong. Either way once I get this nothing works. I can't get the light to come on again. Even if I remove the battery and put it back if I don't remove the atomizer first the same thing happens

Hi. I'm missing something I guess. When I screw my Pene V3 on to proteus it cuts off all air flow. Why is this?

Try removing the air control ring and see if that helps. I am using a Penny V3 and there is much less airflow then I like but I do get some. But not any less then when I put the Penny on anything else.

Just read up on the manual. You're right, seems like 3 second "Orange" indicates a bad battery.
I'm not sure if had this one yet, but I get a 3 second "orange"-ish at the end of battery life. If the coil is cold it won't fire; after I release the button when not firing I get that 3 second red/orange light. Again that's at the end of battery life for me and usually it's after the blue blinks that indicate a low battery have started and shortly before complete cut-off. Trying to fire a couple of times usually helps to get some more vape out of it.
Maybe it's the same "light" and your detection just "craps" out because your battery can't handle the amperage?

Sorry, no more clue here. Imeo to the rescue! :)

Out of ideas here as well. Hope it'll work out with a thinner wire.
Just one more thing that comes to mind: When you measure your resistance is the coil entirely cooled down to room temperature? I have experience VIR starting to detect on a hot/warm coil but it eventually stopped detecting with the same effect you're describing. It were coils close to VIR's limits and I figured that once they are cooled down all the way their resistance will be lower than what VIR can fire. Remember Ti changes its resistance with temperature and I've found out that it does indeed matter and make a (measurable) difference....

Now, out of ideas - good luck :)

Thanks Fright. I feel a bit dumb right now. But you are correct. Much better!!
Off to build coils.

Ok!! First coil build. 30 GA
10 wraps on a 2.5 bit. Screwed it on everything on my proteus seems to be working perfectly. Wish I knew what my ohms were at but it doesn't matter I guess because it's giving me great clouds at 220C.
Thanks Imeo!! One hell of a wait for Proteus but seems totally worth it. Congrats!!

What an achievement! Both the device and the fact that I never lost hope! I LOVE it!!!

I can on Tuesday when my new batteries arrive if that doesn't fix the issue. I really think it is just because the batteries were old. They had never been used but I think I bought them almost 2 years ago and they sat in my vape shelf waiting for Proteus.

Couldn't agree more*. It just vapes and vapes and vapes and it's always the same vape and never a single issue so far.
The Pene on my Proteus has been on there for two weeks now, don't even remember the resistance.
Probably have vaped more than 50ml through this setup (mostly unflavored plus some HHV NET) and haven't even changed the wick. Tastes like the first day :)

(I will take a picture of that wick once I open that Pene up, but for now no reason to do so :D)

* And I WAS a bit sceptical buying that Proteus tbh, given that I'm a DNA/TC guy who never owned a mech or anything close (my GG4S should arrive this week btw... Imeo, you transformed me ;) )

So, as promised, although flavor was still 100%, I finally changed my wick today; must've had around 70-80ml through it.

Hey guys. What's everyone getting out of their batts?
I haven't had it long enough to answer that question but can say my batteries vary wildly. I have 3 of the 650 mAh AWs that I bought when they first came out so they're fairly old but basically unused. One of them is spectacular, one works but is short lived and the other is crap right off the charger. But that one spectacular one, it has performed basically as monkkx describes, 1.5-2 mls at 230.
I have 4 more incoming and I'll see what they do. I also have about 10 of the older style 600 mAh AWs and I'm currently seeing if any of them are up to the task.

Yeah. I'm not getting near that. New batts from 2 years ago. Ordering new ones. Where should I buy in the US??
