The purpose of this write up is not to recommend one over the other. I just wanted to give a point of view from someone who has used both. I have not had them for long, so keep that in mind. I spent the first week using the Darwin. The last 4 days using the Provari. I know there are a handful of you out there that are debating between the two. Hopefully this will help some.

1. Appearance.

P. Very nicely put together. Modern look. Think iPhone modern. Smaller than I had anticipated. If I spread my fingers, I can cover it when I wrap my hand around it. I have larger than average hands. It's not thick though. (Felt kinda weird writing that).

D. Um, what can I say? It is what it is. It looks really nothing like anything else I have seen. Also smaller than I expected, but a bit longer than the Darwin. It is thinner though. The cover is a tank. If I were to drop it, I would be more concerned about the floor.

2. Ease of Use.

P. Very easy. It should not take you any longer than I minute. (If someone is reading this, and it took longer than 1 minute, my apologies in advance). All joking aside, it is easy. You push the button 5 times fast, and it will get you to the PU(Power UP) setting. Wait a few second seconds and your volts will show. Hit the button again to increase it, etc etc. Easy.

D. Easier. You spin a wheel to change the watts. This is where I would obviously give the advantage to the Darwin. With that said, because I don't have lot's of different types of atty's, I don't use it nearly as much as I thought I would. I tend to vape at 3.7 when using 1.5 atty's and 3.9 when I'm using 2.0 attys. On the Darwin I was mostly between 8.5 watts and 9.0 watts. I guess if I had different types of atty and carto's at different ohms, and I was switching them in and out, I would appreciate the time saving a bit more.

3. Practicality-

P. I mostly drip. I seem to flood the atty at least a few times a day. I realize it's 100% user error, but it is what it is. I hope to get better with time. :) The Provari has a deep drip cup. So for someone like me that is a challenged dripper, it works wonders. I have never had any liquid go anywhere besides the drip cup.

It fits in my pocket fine. It's not the most comfortable fit though. I sometimes worry that I might hit the button on accident. It does have a function to shut it off. I really don't want to have to hit the button a bunch of times before I put it in my pocket and press the button a bunch of times when I take it out. So, because that extra 10 seconds of my life it so important to me, I choose not to. I would rather just have to worry about it. That's much easier and less time consuming.

The 510 thread on the Provari is perfect. Never worried about cross threading.

D. The Darwin does not have a drip cup. When I flood it, it gets on the unit. Sometimes the juice gets under the arm, and it's a pain to get out.

It fits my pocket fine as well. I swing the arm down to shut it off, so no worry's about it turning on in my pocket. The shape is a bit different in my pocket also, so it's a bit more comfortable.

The 510 thread on the darwin needs improvement. Every time I put a new atty on there, I'm concerned that I am going to cross thread. U need to be extra careful.

I plan on keeping them both. I'm very happy with both of them. There are somethings I like more about the Provari, and somethings I like more about the Darwin. The cool thing is that it's only a matter of time before something else will come out that will address the majority of the issues that I have. In the meantime, both the Darwin and Provari will keep me more than happy.

Thanks,

Jack

Papa,

I was going to write about the battery and forget. I would consider myself to be a heavy vapor. I vape on and off all day.

P. I got the 18650 extension and I am using the AW IMR 18650's. The battery has been lasting me most of the day. I always change my battery right before I leave my house in the morning around 8:00. Really 8:20, but I am trying to make myself feel better. I end up changing the battery before I even need to, but the one time I did not, it lasted until about 7:30. I bought a few extra batteries and just take an extra charged one with me.

D. I have never been below 50% on the Darwin. I use it from the time I wake up to anywhere from 9 to midnight, and it is still around 50%. I charge it right before I go to bed. I like the fact that I don't have to carry an extra battery, and I am confident it will last longer than a very full long day without having to be recharged.

Very nice write up Jack well done.!

On the Provari I have written in some suggestions to them about the top cap and the drip cup, my suggestion was to thread the outside of the 510 connector so it would also be a native 801 top cap (Dual use) along with drilling one small hole on either side of the Atty connector down low so the juice would pull back into the center and get sucked right back up into the Atty.

Thanks for taking the time to share you observations, Jack.

I just got an email for the Darwin so I'll end up with both of these. I like the pocket-friendliness of the Darwin, that it in no way resembles a pipe bomb and that I don't have to stock up on yet one more type of battery. That's a huge deal because I'm trying hard to stick with the 3 types I have already - 14500, 18650 and cr123a.

There have been full details about and orderly access to the Provari both pre- and post-launch and it isn't Provape's first mod. I'm surprised there are so few reviews for it. Its scarcity must mean a lot of people are buying it but they must be too busy enjoying vaping to turn on their video cameras!

The Darwin - even though I'm gettin' one for sure - doesn't have a full spec sheet yet or any video reviews besides Drew's. There are only a couple threads that aren't by beta testers but I know there's a batch of early adapters vaping away on them right this very minute.

I love the technological promise of both and feel lucky, as usual, to be part of vaping's evolution. My one regret is the lack of love shown the wonderful 801 connector. C'mon, developers! Would it hurt to offer a choice of atty connector? At this price point one shouldn't have to resort to adapters.

Am I correct that the Darwin does not have a user replaceable battery? Have you made any inquiry to the company as to what it would cost to replace it when the time comes?

I heard it's about $25 to get a battery replaced. Not considered to be user replaceable.

Nice little write-up, OP. :)

Thanks for the write up.

That is correct. I remember reading somewhere that they charge $25.00 to replace the battery. I also remember reading somewhere that there is no reason it should not last 2 years.

Thanks for all the positive comments. If anyone has anymore questions I will try and answer them the best I can.

I've been comparing the ProVari to the Darwin as well lately.

I was trying to figure out why the draws on the Darwin seemed a little more satisfying than the ProVari using same settings/juice/atty. Nuck helped me pin down the difference.... Airflow! The Darwin has a tighter draw providing fuller vapor while the ProVari adds a little more air making the hits less full.

I'm using both and they are both awesome devices. For heavy drippers I think the catch cup on ProVari is a bonus. I haven't gotten juice leaking on my Darwin yet, thankfully I'm a careful dripper.

Darwin wins on batty life, I can go 2.5 days between charges easily. Of course ProVari I can swap the batty.

I honestly think both devices are great and worlds better than what was available when I started vaping! Great time to be a vaper ;)

Hey try drawing slower when your draw isnt tight enough and see if it improves vape quality.Usually works for me. I orderd my Provari over the weekend so im excited to get it. Darwin looks intriging but battery swap and price beats the Darwin for me. At this time at least. cool thing about vaping is its cheap enough that i can afford to buy new gear regularly. or at least thats how i justify it. the Provari will be my first new mod since i got my Pure V3.
