I'd say your burning your coils. High pg should make a coil last longer but high pg doesn't need as much power as high vg. 3.8-4.2 volts or 8-11 watts should be plenty.

What else are you using in your diy mix? Some flavors are coil gunkers in anyithing over 3%
At your suggestion, I'm restricting my voltage to <= 4.2, and see if that helps.
Although, it might be hard to keep that pledge as the coils age. Certainly doable most of the time.

Sad to toss good coils that just get gunked up.

Do you have an ultrasonic jewelery cleaner (I use a small one for dentures)? My coils don't gunk (vape flavorless), so I haven't tried it but read it works with just plain water. The ultrasonic waves provide plenty of mechanical help for removing coil gunk, and you don’t need to worry about residues since it only requires water. Of course, let the coils dry for a few days before trying to use again.

Would be worth a try if you have an ultrasonic cleaner. Maybe someone can chime in with anecdotal information, yay or nay.

The next time I think my coils need changing, I will try this to see what if any difference it makes. But it may be a few weeks before I need to change a coil again.

I want to be sure I understand what you're saying.
How does the coil 'drying out' cause a too stiff draw? When they're brand new, bone dry out of the box, I give them a test draw before I even install them. I have rarely had a bad coil out of the box with a too stiff draw, but it does happen. My point is that a good coil won't have that problem even if 'dry'. Or am I misunderstanding you? Wouldn't that condition cause a burned taste?

Also, are you talking about Aspire Nautilus? If you loosen the bottom with the tank upright (drip tip at top), isn't it going to leak liquid?

Thanks for clarification. I'm probably just being dense.

I get mine from Mt. Baker and never have a problem, outside the occasional dud (usually one out of every 10) but that is aspires problem with quality control rather than the place where you buy them.

When you first put in a new coil, close off your airflow and suck without firing til you see an air bubble come up.. wait a min. then do it again. When there are no more air bubbles then open your airflow like normal and give it about 10 minutes before vaping.

One coil typically lasts me between 5-7 days, although the rare odd one will last two weeks.

If you chain vape you need to periodically reprime your coil (close off airflow and suck without any power going to it),if you vape a higher vg content than 60%, you have to reprime your coils frequently, as they are not made for high vg juices (although max vg is perfectly feasible, I vape it all the time with the nautilus bvc coils, you just have to be more careful)

I don't think I've ever encountered a two day coil without vaping a coil killer juice, and generally speaking I avoid those juices. Sometimes though, when your coil starts to feel like it's gunking up, you can vape through it and it will clear up on its own, especially if you flood your coil a little.

I saw that Stan Glantz had his thumb in this pie:nah: I'm so glad I listened to the folks warning to prepare early on.

Thumb in his what? (Yeah.)

We listened. Started prepping about that same time as you, lovie. Like 2 or 3 years ago? Stalking up. ;)

I was only into ProVape for a few months before their closing. Luckily I was able to get everything I needed for the long haul, if not everything I wanted. I think I would have liked a TI Procyon and with a TI Kabuki topper but in my world, those are just a nice to have and the steel mods and tanks are working flawlessly.

I have (2) mini's, a standard 2.5, (2) Classics and (2) P3s, but found I really only need the Procyon and Radius (only have one of each) and if push came to shove, I'd settle on the Radius. So a total of only 9 ProVape mods, but should last this cat all 9 of my lives LOL

I think it was @Ca Ike who gave me/us the tip to flood the coils occasionally, which has made a big difference for me. Just loosen the bottom a little (standing upright) until you see bubble rise. He said they some may just be drying out, and far from "dead". In my case, it pays dividends.

I hope it helps you (and anyone else) too.
Funny that you bring this up. I do recall when it was first mentioned, and I thought to myself: how do I do this and how do I do this without leakage?
Well, I just tried it. Just a slight turn on the bottom of the tank and the bubble rose, and it worked! Flavor back, vapor back. Did I dream this? Thanks DP.

My pleasure, NY - just the conduit, I. I'm glad it's working for you too. :thumb:
