Yesterday I thought I was getting my very first dry hit on a kayfun Lite v2 +

I took another vape and confirmed, yup this thing is burnt dry.

It reminded me of several years ago, a couple of ECF members accused me of lying when I said I have never had a dry hit on my Kayfuns.

I quickly tore it down and built a new coil (7 wraps of 30ga on the little blue screwdriver). I thought it was strange how it seemed to glow brighter when I pulsed it ... I put it together anyway as this is how I've always made coils.

Loaded it with juice and took a vape ... eww, the dry hit was still there. Maybe the Kanthal has gone bad?

Nope ... had it cranked to 4.6 volts
i see your post just as I'm thinking about giving up on my kfl+v2(authentic),because of dry hits,or poor wicking(i can hear a long hiss after a drag).
that's to bad, because when it works,it's absolutely great;such a sweet and watery vape that enhance your liquids taste.
it's been about two months,i tried all kind of different builds, cotton quantity etc.been on so many forums and YouTube videos and still, sometimes it works, but most of the times it doesn't(at least the way i like it,and the problem is that i don't know what i have done differently when it works).
it drives me crazy, yesterday for example i re-wicked like 10 times, and build like 3 different coils, and it's always a mess opening the kayfun lite when it's full of liquid.(glad i have the Kayfill tool).
i don't think I'm that bad at building coils, and i don't want to drill those juice channels.
i might just give up and go back to my eXpromizer which has the same deck but works every time.
i build 1.5-1.7 ohms coils on a 2.5-3.0mm diameter and vape at around 12 watts.
I'm clueless about what the issue is.

Is it an authentic Svoemesto Kayfun or a clone?

original svoemesto.
maybe it's because I'm chain vaping?,(but my liquid is 80pg)
or maybe i should try spaced coils?
or should not make my wick fluffy?
i really don't know any more.
the only build i haven't tried yet is the vertical coil.

I have had the same issues with Kayfun style tanks :(
I'd start sucking a second before pressing the fire button and I'd keep on sucking a second after I'd let go of the button.

that is some kind of solution :D
such a problematic tank;hold it upside down to be able to let those bubbles free,or put you finger on the air hole and take a few drags..
no wonder the internet is full of discussions about it.
i envy those who got it right.
i might just get the miniv3.but i really don't want to give up,it's such a good looking tank and the flavor is so great and perfect for my MTL style. i can't even go back now to the nautilus mini or the kabuki with those pre-built coils, the taste and overall experience is almost unbearable.

A standard horizontal microcoil (8 wraps, 2.5mm dia., 28 or 30 ga kanthal) with cotton wick should work fine. Perhaps you can take close up pix and share with us.

oh man,i really don't know what kind of pics i should post, since I've tried so many different styles and you've probably seen it all.
i tried cutting just above the chimney and tuck it down,or cut it a bit higher and with different amount of cotton too.
and also clear the channels with a toothpick to keep the cotton away from it.
or cut them without the chimney on and just put them on the deck close to the juice channels and so on..
(the 45 degree coil with the S-shape wick was the worst for me)
maybe i should roll the wick more?since i try to keep my wick as fluffy as possible.
or it might also have something to do with the amount of air flow I've got;i like it quit open,so there's might not be enough drag.
and maybe i'm to picky as to what i consider a good vape, since some time it works ok,but the drag feels to tight and i don't hear the gurgling sound which i like since it gives me a wet vape and the impression that everything works fine.i also can't bear the hissing that occurs after a drag.
i might try cellulose instead of cotton since i heard it wicks better, but i'm concerned about it not being as healthy.

how do you wick it?

I use Japanese cotton Koh Gen Do. This is dated but gives you an idea.

Thanks.
i also do a 7-8 wraps, 2.5mm dia., 28 ga kanthal;i get around 1.5ohms
and use KGD cotton.
I've noticed two things in your pictorial:
- you don't seem to roll your wick.
-you make it quit long.
and you don't just put the wick close to the channel, but also lay it along the deck creating a kind of a s-shape.
I'll definitely try this method next time since it seems to work well for you.

If all else fails and you're about to toss your KFL in the bone box then send it to me. I'll get it going for you unless you live on Pluto or somewhere that makes shipping cost prohibitive.

Bronze has done this for others to help them out ... it's a one time thing

hope you get it sorted out ... the Kayfun Lite v2+ on top of a ProVari is my Holy Grail.

I hope the same. While it may not be my absolute favorite vape (but it's close), with a gun to my head, it's The One I'd opt to keep. Reliable, steady, and never fails me (in any way, shape or form). Once you get it, they're difficult to not absolutely love (assuming the vape satisfies, of course).

It doesn't really matter because that's SUCH a personal issue, but the SXK Nebula Wine would be it. It also leaks like a sieve (through the massive air holes), so it never leaves the desk, and wet wipes are always VERY close by.

In other words, it would definitely NOT be the one that saved me from the bullet.

I've found nothing that compares to the KFL v2+ (or whatever it is), and finally stopped trying to find it. It's pure gold once you get your wicking down pat, then so very easily repeated - time after time.

the bell caps improve the taste a bit IMO ... they also make the setup very light compared to a full size Kayfun.
I know you showed us which ones, a million times.....

But one more time Willy. I have a Easter order at FT. Waiting. Need to get the Easter 10% off.:)
