I guess they don't still say, Groovy"...

I was 24, with no ID or tags, in Nicaragua and El Sal. I lost track of pop culture terms pretty early on. I did learn $!@(/+ and )$!# pretty quickly.

I do remember Dave Oldenfield's Tubular Bells, though.

Exciting day at the E Homefront...main waterline let go under the house, before the whole house cut off valve...went out to the street and shut off what I thought was my meter, water hept flowing.....many frantic calls to emergency plumbing services only to discover such a thing is merely a joke in my area...frantic call to the water company and they said a tech would call with a blocked number....I finally found my meter, and it was buried in mud up to the cover plate, nobody has looked at this meter in a looooong time. I started digging, with my hands and with a cup, got to where I could finally see the meter and the cut off valve...Bubba must have got the ticket to install this thing because the cut off valve was snug up against the wall of the plastic box set it the ground to protect the flooded valve and meter. So, I started digging, and scooping mud to gain access to this cluster Fffff, and then the tech guy shows up. Between the two of us we managed to dig out and pry loose the plastic box, whereupon the line ruptured, rapidly filling the hole with murky clay water. All the meanwhile my crawl space is being flooded from the broken feed line...but he managed to secure the shut off valve and stop the flow of water. So...no running water in E's house, but the good side is no more flooding under the house...tomorow I go shopping for a wet vac, and wait for the call from the emergency plumbers, no time frame given, just a , we'll call ya when they are 30-45 minutes out:facepalm: good thing the liquor store is only two miles away:vapor::toast::laugh:
Half my house has a basement other half has a crawl space.
The crawl space is under a bathroom, the dining room, and the Kitchen
So the 3rd time my water lines froze in my crawl space, it broke in two places
I replaced them all with PEX lines with SharkBite fittings. I can't say enough good things about them.
PEX, like everything else,
They make really good thick lines and cheap thin lines, (usually used in trailers).
The good PEX can freeze solid and not break.

SharkBite I use these even when I use copper pipes.

Sharkbites can be put on and taking off without shutting off the water!

In fact, that winter when my pipe froze & broke in two places, we just cut the pipe and put a Sharkbite on and connected it back together, all without shutting the water off.
That next summer I replaced all the copper in my crawl space with PEX.

Also GREAT for hot water tanks.
Put Shut off valve then Sharkbite on the line in and line out, and it makes replacing it so much easier.
My hot water tank is electric and the wiring takes longer then the plumbing.
Takes maybe 15 mins to replace my tank. :?:

If I ever got a "totally tubular", I knew I was "in" for at least ten minutes.

LOL, your kid is OLD. I can't post any of my kid's slang, it's ah, newer, hence fouler. Totally tubular reminds me of Gidget.

I used to do the call thing (never the text thing) and my little brother socialized me into compliance. I used to call on speaker and if he ever found out I was driving or in line with a cashier well, he would just state how not acceptable it was and hang up.

We have an ordinance now after some kid texted, drove and killed her dad (she went to jail for the rest of her life). I hope her mother was a forgiving sort because I cannot even IMAGINE how she felt. Hands free everything and sometimes not even then.

It's for the best, in my case.

You Da Man Chief!!! Thank you so much for them vids and this info...you got me to thinking I can do this, considering maybe replacing the old lines with Pex. I could do it piecemeal and put shut offs where I might not be able to get at the walls feeding the baths, so if those old lines fail I could isolate the problem. I'd put shut offs all over the place  would be nice to just loose water in one area and still have it in the rest of the house till that problem gets solved. Much appreciated post :thumb::thumb:

At the very least, I'm going to look into having a few shark bite fittings on hand and some lengths of Pex in the various diameters in case of another emergency.

Last night was fun, plumber finally showed up and patched the pipe, but I had to sign a disclaimer that they couldn't warrantee the work because of the type of piping we have. Then a crew showed up to fix the meter, the water company had sent their emergency subcontractors which specialize in grading and utilities...a couple hours later they had the main fixed, turned on the water...and the under house repair was leaking:laugh::facepalm:

I asked one of the crew if he could fix it, for cash...he fixed it in two minutes and agreed to take fifty bucks, I gave him seventy with a smile...

    Glad it is fixed.

This is exactly why I have the home warranty.

Plumbing is one of my least favorite tasks.
Ever since I had a bad water heater experience about twenty five years back, I have been very Leary of anything to do with water pipes. The heater was in a closet in a condo, and when I opened the valve to the hose going outside, the valve stem came all the way out! I managed to force it back in after a couple tries, and by then our downstairs neighbor was pounding on our door...yup, insurance company was much needed to cover the damages to both units:facepalm:

Thanks, they stay out in the shed, got the call today and my new ride has now joined my other bikes out there :D I have too many bikes now...
