thanks! i tried it today but i keep flooding the atomizer :( (i've a 510)
Cutting the straw has issues - either dumping a lot of liquid or drying out. I recommend getting the proper size straw and then trying again.

The notches DO make a difference in regulating the flow. I've found that without the notches it'll act more like polyfill.

TIP:

After washing and reinserting the same PTB a few times, the performance all of the sudden dropped - I could only get 6-7 drops in.

I removed the straw and PTB and found the straw had turned in the cart, so the notches were blocked. Also, the PTB was sort of flattened to the eliptical shape of the cart. I squeezed the straw back into shape and put it back properly. When I went to put the PTB back in, I also reshaped it to a more round flower. WOW! Right back to 10-12 drops and 10 on refills!!

So, it your PTB Made Easy cart suddenly stops working as well, just do a quick squeeze and turn on the straw and PTB and it should be as good as new!

I have a problem with this mod...Well I have had this problem since I started vaping no matter the mod.
I just made a cart using this mod, but it works fine for just about 5-10 drags, then the taste of the liquid is getting weaker and in the end there is none. The TPB is still pretty wet. I just think the liquid doesn't get to my atty easily enough.

Do you think that putting less PTB in the cart would help?

I am using RS liquids and a Joye 510.

Thanks!

I really enjoy using this mod, makes vaping so much better.

However, I am still trying to figure out how anybody can get 10 - 12 drops in a cart? Is Kristin referring to a drop as a drop from a syringe, pipette or juice bottle?

It seems that if I put some drops into the cart then put the PTB into the cart and top up the cart, I get vacuum lock. The juice does not flow.

The best I can get into the cart with the PTB in place is 6 drops. Seven is pushing it, anymore and flooding, leaking, etc. Because this mod works so well in comparison to other mods, I don't mind topping up when required to do so. It gives me the best flavour from all of my juices, pre-made and DIY.

If you think dekang Chocolate or Vanilla is a disgusting juice, you need to try it using Kristin's mod.

Ronald I don't know if this may help you but I still use this as one of my daily mods. I will admit that my filler doesn't empty completely (bone dry) but when I do feel it's time to refill it (I also use the 510) it normally takes from 5 to 7 drops of e-juice.

Of all the cart mods out there and I've tried quite a few variations, the bottom line with each one is time. What I mean is that it still takes time for the e-juice to saturate the wick in the atty well enough to provide a good tasteful vape. Whether I use a standard 510 battery, one of my several battery mods (NicoStick) or my Passthru, I make sure that my e-cig is always upright, meaning that the cart is always pointing straight up in the air. This way I know that gravity (for one) is working for me pulling the e-juice into the atty. Next, when I vape I take long light vapes and usually no more than 2 or 3 in a row, then I have to let my e-cig sit upright for at least a minute or more before I grab it again and vape. I do this for two reasons; to give the atty time to cool down a bit, but more importantly to give the e-juice enough time to saturate the atty using capillary action. Again, no matter what cart mod I use the e-juice needs time to saturate the wick.

I'm sure you already know all this but I'm just trying to help. Also, as I posted many pages ago, when I make this particular mod I cut the end of my PTB so that it actually sticks out of the end of my 510 cart perhaps 1/2mm or less. This has worked well for me in that it allows the PTB to envelope the atty bridge a little more than if I cut the bag flush with the cart.

I would say that if you use less of the tea bag, you are changing this mod to be more like a plug instead of using it as a filler. Most, if not all, juice that is in the cart should be absorbed by the filler. If the juice starts pooling at the top of the filler then you have added to much (over saturated). This will lead to flooding.

To answer your question, no. I have tried this as a variation to the original mod and all I can say is ... using less PTB does not work.

7 drops sounds right to me too, at least that's how much I normally use to top off my cart. As I mentioned to another poster, I cut my PTB just a little longer so that it sticks out of the cart just a tad which seems to help it envelope the atty bridge a little better. As we know the bridge quickly pushes the PTB back inside the cart in use so a little more doesn't hurt any. Also, as Kristin has mentioned I also make a bunch of 1/4" vertical cuts on the end of each PTB (the end that touches the atty bridge) which also seems to help as well.

As far as the 10-12 drops, I can't refill with that much unless I truly vape the PTB bone dry which provides too much of a burnt taste near the end.

Good tips! You are right, regardless of the mod the best way to get the atty properly wicked it to keep the atty/cart vertical.

I would also like to add that when I do refill my cart, I tilt the cart a little to one side then only drop in one drop to the lower side, then watch the PTB as it slowly soaks in, then add another drop, same thing, one drop at a time. Sometimes I'll see a bubble of air pop to the surface which I just blow on or touch with a finger to pop and continue one drop at a time. The idea is to allow the e-juice to slowly soak to the bottom of the PTB (cart) while it literally pushes the air out of the higher side. If I refill it right after a vape, there is still some vape inside the cart and it "puffs" out as each drop goes in. Pretty cool actually.

All I can tell you is that not getting at least 10-12 drops in on the first fill and 8-10 drops on refills is usually the result of one or more of these reasons:

1. No notches cut in the straw
2. Notches not properly positioned in the cart
3. Used all of the PTB instead of just half
4. Didn't spread out the PTB properly
5. Packed in too much PTB before trimming (stop when the tip hits the bottom)
6. Accidentally poked a hole in the PTB when putting it in
7. Straw is too tall or too short (rare)
8. No straw
9. Straw is too big or too small (McDonald's sized straws and coffee stirrers just don't work as well)
10. Notches in straw too big or too small

As far as overfilling, you should be able to fill the cart until it pools on top. Keep the cart level and slide the atty on from above, to avoid spilling. DON'T drip additional liquid on the atty (the little pool on top acts in the same capacity.) Press the button for a second or two BEFORE taking a draw, to heat it up to allow the liquid to vaporize.

I just put the drops in from a standard bottle sold by most vendors. You should not put drops in before putting in the PTB - drip from the top into to PTB.

If it pools after only a few drops, give it a couple seconds or gently tap the side of the cart. You should see the liquid absorb and then can continue filling.

Kristen,

You are the best!! This is absolutely the best mod I have used since I have started on e-cigs in January. I have tried a lot and not one has given me this type of juice economy (drains almost dry every time!), taste, vapor production, ease of use, and simplicity. I can't say enough about this mod, it's the greatest:thumbs:

One small request, could you possibly post some instructions for 901 carts?

Kristen, you rock:D
