Ok so I just had to finally refill. It has vapor still, and hit, but was starting to taste bad. 9 hours of keoke coffee with VG. So I refilled. Then I made another. This one would not fill as well. I had to stick the tweezers down the cart a few times so get the air out I guess. It was harder to fill. I did the exact same thing as the first go around. I don't know why one fills easy and the other doesn't. Either way I like this and I am going to keep vaping this way for a while. No leaks so far :)

Kristin. I'm going to try this again tonight but I had a question. It seems to me that with the straw cut 15mm it keeps the PTB rolled too tight and makes it harder to "spread" the top so that no leaks happen. If the straw was cut shorter, say 12mm, wouldn't it be easier to spread the layers of PTB so that there is a tighter fit? Just a thought cuz this really worked great the first time I tried it but flooded the atty on the third refill.

Could be I have it backwards. The viscosity of the liquid will definitely make a difference - the straw height seems to be the key. I make mine between 13mm-14mm and my liquids are pretty thick. Try making the straw a little shorter in yours and see what happens! Too short and the PTB may get pushed in too much. Mybe try making the PTB 1mm longer than the end of the cart to compensate.

I haven't used VG, but I understand it's pretty thick? Maybe it gummed up the PTB a bit by sitting overnight?

This mod cleans really easily - just pull out the PTB, rinse and pat dry. The PTB holds the "flower" shape, so easy to realign the tweezers and slide it right back into the cart. I cleaned 2 this morning to try it out and it was super easy. I'm vaping one of those right now and it's still working like a champ!

Edit: Just reread your post and realized you meant the second cart you made was weird. Maybe your straw vents are turned the wrong way or the straw is a little taller? Is it the same liquid?

I was just going to make the same suggestion. I'm getting a lot of leaking, like fluid in the mouth a lot, so I'm going to try cutting the straw shorter. It does appear like the ptb won't "flower" at the top as much as it should.

OK it did work better this go around till I had to refill.. I noticed it was starting get dry and pulled out the PTB there still alot of juice on the PTB itself.. wasted juice thats one of the reasons I stoped using PTB.. also I had to reshape the stuff cause it kept getting all bent up not making good contact with the atty's bridge.. it dose work good but I found it to be way more hassle then just poping out a polly plug refill and go..

Vg is waaaaaaay thicker. I used the same liquid. It is possible the second one I put in wrong. I also notice the straw in the second one is longer because I can't get it in the cart all the way.

Another thought for thin liquid or leakage, you guys...

Try putting the PTB into the straw BEFORE you put it into the cart. Push it THROUGH the straw, so the tip comes out past the bottom of the notched end a couple millimeters. Then trim off that tip. Put the straw/PTB into the cart and trim as normal.

This should put a little more material into the cart to hold the liquid better for you?

If it's too much trouble getting it into the cart that way, I would recommend making your straw a millimeter or two longer. That will compress the material a bit more and should help with the liquid coming out too fast.

Hi, Kristin,
Is cutting off the tip part of the original mod here,a little confused if pushing the ptb in, should the bottom be left in tact?
Also, one little problem I had was the straw, seems I was using one that was not quite 1/4", it left gaps that allowed for flooding. Threading the straw first is a better way to fit it though.

I've been using this method in my 901 for a few days now, but minus the straw. A standard straw "almost" fits in the cart without deforming, but it had a bad habit of "puckering" in on two sides because it was compressed so tightly. So far a half sheet pushed in and trimmed seems to working ok as long as I don't overfill.

My experiments are far from complete, but after messing with PTB for over two months my current feelings are that while PTB works as a wicking material it's not the "poly killer" some people make it out to be. I still use a lot of polyfill carts, and they work quite well as long as they're kept clean. I have to think that if the cart makers truly had a better material to work with they'd be using it.

Anyways, thanks for the fresh take on PTB. It never hurts to experiment! :)

I don't know guys. I've been using this for days now and I'm still happy with it. I put in 10-12 drops and vape it until I need a refill and it usually takes another 10-12 drops. Occasionally I need to tap it a little to get the liquid flowing again, but not often. No leaking or flooding. It must just be the perfect combo for my device and liquid combination. I wish there was some way to make the perfect cart for all devices and liquids, one that is also easy to refill, but that may be just a pipe dream. :(

Just wanted to say thanks for figuring this out. I've tried all the techniques and materials pretty much and always come back to PTB. But your technique is working easier and better than anything I've done before. It's less fussy to do and holds more juice.

I use pen style exclusively, use both halves of a single bag, no straw, wrap it on a small bamboo skewer (blunt end - great cartridge tools btw) and just shove it in there and trim. "Wrap it" = somewhat tightly at very end and with a bit of a twisting motion, so that it's sort of a "spiraled flower" to start.

Do you put the half tea bag all the way down to the bottom of the cart and then just cut it flush with top of the cart?
Yes.

I also tried putting the PTB into the straw BEFORE I put it into the cart. I poked the PTB in just past the end of the straw bottom, cut off that tip (so liquid wouldn't get caught in it), then put the whole thing into the cart THEN trimmed the PTB that was sticking out of the cart off flush with the top of the cart. I'm vaping on one like that right now and it seems to be working pretty well, but I think I remember leaving the tip on worked even better.

Cool! Glad you found a way to make it work for you!
