You may be right - there is no way to tell for sure that I'm aware of... But I don't see that the holes on the bottom are blocked by the wick - not even close. And, furthermore, just about everyone has been pouring the juice into the tube anyways... I haven't, but I tilt heavily. How do we explain the tilt working if there is no liquid inside?
This is just speculation from me so take it with a grain a salt but, I think it works by vaccum. If no air can get into the top of the tank then juice can't flow out the holes at the bottom. If you drilled a hole in the top of the tube it would immediatly dump all juice out the bottom. The pressure from the juice in the tank keeps air from pushing its way into the tank. And the vaccum at the top of the tank holds the juice in. I bet when this tank is near empty it will dump whats left. Think of a glass upside down in water the air pressure keeps the water out. Tip it a little and you can allow some water to flow in and some air escape. Pull it out of the water and the water will stay in the glass briefly until gravity overpowers the air pressure and breaks the seal. I think thats why tilting the scorpion will let juice into the tube and why it is having trouble otherwise.
