Personally I don't care if vaping turns out to have side affects I don't think they'll ever compare to analogues. I would have told my boss that he could put up with the water vapor in MY car or he could inhale the exhaust as I leave him on the side of the road. I like your response just as well though:thumb::thumb:

I was telling my mom last night how good things were going as far as not smoking, and she has been supportive of my switch to vaping. But last night she pops up with, now if we could just get u off the soda. (are u kidding me!!!) i wanted to throw my phone.

So for the first time in 30 years I have been able to put down the analogs. I have been smoke free since Jan 15th, the only way I have been able to win at doing this is with a PV. Thank God for the person who invented these!

Anyway, I have one kid (the one who bugged me the most about my smoking) who instead of being happy is now always asking me....
"how many carts did you use today"? and "When are you going to lower you're nicotine level"?

[Control Freak!]

Now I am a pretty easy going person, but yesterday I blew up at her.
I told her to be happy that after 30 years I was doing something proactive and that if I never gave up nicotine that was my business!

Later that day, as I was driving my boss home, I took 1 little drag off of my pv in my own car, and his comment was....
"I hope that in 3 years when they discover that the 2nd hand vapor is bad for other people, you are prepared to pay my medical expenses"!

[Hypochondriac Control Freak!]

Easy going me blew up again!!!I said "wow this is coming from someone who has drank so much that they are not even allowed to drive anymore??
Yep I know that was mean...
Then he said..."wow you really are having smoking withdrawls maybe you need a cig"!!!!! 8-o8-o8-o:shock::shock:

[and totally clueless, too!]

I have explained to everyone what a PV is and how it works.

It is almost like some people will always have something to complain about.

I'm very lucky. My wife & daughter very much approve of my ecig.

Having done quite a bit of research and reading on these forums before I actually began vaping I had heard others going through the issues you currently are, with the "now when are you going to quit, yada yada...." So I adopted a preemptive stance at the very beginning.
When explaining the e-cig I include the fact that I have absolutely no intention of weaning myself from it, or reducing nicotine ever. I have smoked for over 30 years, never been successfully able to quit, and now that I have found a delivery system for nicotine that allows for the elimination of over 3,000 harmful chemicals I am content with my new status quo. For the record I have, in fact, reduced nicotine levels, but that's between us. As far as I'm concerned it’s just a debate I'm unwilling to engage in, and for the few who have attempted to open the forum for discussion I state that it's this or cigarettes - and I chose this, period. I do this in a pleasant, non-confrontational manner and have eliminated virtually any argument to date without having to engage in endless dialogue. I did have one hearty soul actually try to bring it up "one more time" (she just loves a good argument) but I warmly stated "asked and answered," asked her a question totally unrelated and she realized I wasn't going to give her purchase to pursue the matter - I may have frustrated her never ending desire for drama, but even she finally understood the issue was truly closed and we've never again revisited it.
Congratulations on your success to date, and remember you don't have to justify your decision, just enjoy it.

Just know that you are doing the right thing for YOU! Many of the "nay-sayers" don't want to worry about their lives, but revel in the act of prodding into yours!

I try not and let the comments get to me, but inevitably they do and I try and calmly excuse my self from the conversation when it's obvious that it's headed nowhere! I try and say something along the lines of "Apparently we have reached a topic that neither of us can agree on, so instead of making an argument out of this let's just talk about something else." This is typically followed by an awkward silence, although far better than shouting match!

My last girlfriend always complained about my smoking, although it was ok for her to smoke socially! When I first started vapeing she was quite happy with my decision. After a few weeks however I was hearing the typical "You're always sucking on that thing!" and "I think you should cut down a little, I think your using it too much." All I could do was try and stay calm and tell her "my breath and clothes don't stink any more, I actually go outdoors and exercise with you now, and I've got a lot more stamina where it counts ;)" That usually worked... for a week or so.

For the most part though the people closest to me are quite supportive! My father quit, after 40+ yrs, about 5yrs ago and couldn't be happier that I'm getting off analogs.

My mother, who has smoked for around the same time as my father, is starting to get me to tell her more and more about PV's and is thinking of getting her own after trying mine. I hope she comes over to the vapor side!

One of my good friend's and his wife are recent converts who have fallen head-over-heals in love with PV's. He's even starting to make his own passthroughs and box mods! More and more of our other friends are getting curious about our PV's, so hopefully in the future I'll be able to get a few more vapeing buddies!

Your boss needs to get a [bleeping] taxi. Oh, the cab smells too much like old smoke? Why, at least he's not inhaling vapor!
;)

My family knows I've been kicking the habit. They're proud of me. I'm lucky for that.

My mother recently said in her "don't-you-mess-with-me-and-mine" tone of voice...

"Honey, if anybody tries to judge you, don't EVER apologize. Just say 'I am what I am.' As soon as you make excuses for what you do and who you are, you make yourself lower than they are. Don't lower yourself."

Bummer story.

I've been pretty lucky with supportive co-workers, girlfriend, and sons. I did my research first though and was ready for any negative reactions.

I get less support for being a certified firearms instructor for the Boy Scouts than I do for vaping. People tend to fear the unknown. Xenophobia is common in humans.

You know you are doing the right thing. We know you're doing the right thing. Doing the right thing is more important than satisfying those folks who have to complain about everything and/or fear anything new. Plus this has to be the most supportive group I have ever encountered on the web.

Wow. I'm really impressed with the quality and quantity of comments that have been made here in such a short period of time. What a truly great group of people!

I've recently told a few who question my nicotine habit that it really isn't any different than their caffeine habit. So when they ask me how long before I give up the nicotine I just tell them as soon as they give up their caffeine. And we know that it's in more than just coffee!

And as someone else said some time ago; "It is a much cheaper habit than cigarettes and a hell of a lot cheaper than chemotherapy!"

Vape on and enjoy your new healthier life! I surely do!

Sigh. It just seems as if no matter what you try to do there's always someone meddling. I've had 2 people, who have no idea what a PV is tell me that they are "bad". When I asked what they suggested I do to stop smoking, one said: Prayer works. And the other one said: Accupuncture works.

Snort. Sorry, but if either of those really worked, no one would smoke ever again.

Ignorance is total bliss for many people, I for one, choose not to be ignorant when it comes to stopping the cigs and what I have to do to make it happen.

Kiddies are being trained in school to nag their parents. I don't like that.

In WWII Germany it was called the "Hitler Youth Group", just wait and see.

No disrespect intended, but there is a difference between being "easy going", and being a doormat for your kids. Mine are grown, but "the disapproval look":

means conversation over, subject closed. Period. I'll not be harangued by a child.

Good for you! Especially that last part. If you keep that up long enough, all of the passive-aggressive buttinsky's in your life will begin to leave you alone, and show you the respect you deserve.

Heh. :D That's a ticklish situation to be in, but your property is just that: your property. My brother has been a rabid anti-smoking zealot since long before the current hysteria began. He has never been in my car or in my home, because he knows me too well.

people cant have a opinion on anything, there told what to do, so they think everything is bad unless someone tells them its ok.if your doing something that looks like smoking then they think its bad plain and simple.i would like humans to actually find out what is going on,hence why we are all here.:)

amen!

i've found it completely useless to even explain it to non-smokers, except for the 20-30 crowd. They're at least interested in the "technology".

When I hadn't had an analog for a week, a friend told me that I hadn't "really" quit smoking cause I was still getting the nicotene.
I blew up at them and asked why it would be 'real" if I had been on the patch for a week, or been chewing gum. But because I was inhaling my nicotene replacement it was somehow less of an accomplishment.
They shut up after that. ;):)

What they dislike is IMO the fact that we stopped feeling guilty.
"Oh, so sorry I still breathe, I know, I am a bad, bad, bad smoker!" So easy to chime in and fell better than somebody like that.
And then people start vaping and say "I am sorry, what was your problem?" Of course they are frustrated.

Just like the schoolyard bully is when all the kids smaller than him are pulled away from him, and he has to handle people his own size.

The problem is, this is all new to everyone. Nobody knows the long term effects of vaping PG or VG. I've been vaping for a few months now. I can definitely breath easier, but it may cause problems in the future. None of us can know for sure at this point.

You should also let him know that it's the same stuff used to smoke up concerts. If it was going to, 2 years from now, kill people from second hand vapor...then...a lot of people would be sick or dying from it already.

That's what almost put me off from vaping. I had to do a lot of research before I decided to give it another try. Inhaling fog machine vapor doesn't sound too appealing or healthy. Sure it may not be a problem inhaling it once in a while at a concert, but we are inhaling this stuff on a regular basis.

It does seem that vaping is a lot healthier than smoking, which is why I chose to do it. I'm just not 100% convinced that we will not have health issues caused from inhaling PG and VG. One of the reasons why I decided to give vaping another shot is because PG and VG are in many edible products. Still, eating something and heating it up and inhaling the vapor are 2 different things and can have different effects.

Anyway, sorry to go on and on. I just figure that people's complaints can be somewhat justified. It's just too early to tell who's right or wrong.

The problem is that these people are giving uninformed opinions in the form of complaints. As you said these are new, but, we've done our research and know more about vaping than the person griping. This may be the first time they've been exposed to vaping and P.V's and they're popping off at the mouth about something they know nothing about.:-x

Damn bunch of Cliff Clavens is really what they are.
