Good morning :)

I've always considered getting a handgun, but now I'm really considering it.. a couple camping on a beach (on that very same beach which I've walked up and down hundreds of times with no fear) were murdered, buried in the sand, and then their rig was stolen. ... is wrong with people!
Lots wrong with people. This is why I pack heat. Wouldn't consider not.

My tree guy so totally impressed me. I had trees close to my house. He used ropes and pulleys and a bobcat and got each one to fall just exactly where it should, which sure wasn't easy. He's a third generation arborist. One of the weekend warriors in my neighborhood wanted the wood, and said he would have cut those trees for nothing. Yeah, right! If I have a small tree that's easy my friend's husband will cut it, but these were complicated. Well worth it to get a professional.
You no doubt made a good choice.

I have a split oak (one trunk with two trees coming out of it) just 20 feet from the front of the house. It’s already been hit by lightning and smoked most of the electronics in my house plus blew out a couple windows. It’s a giant sized white oak. One of the splits leans toward the house and overhangs the house itself. It will chop my house in half if it ever comes down. If a limb falls it will impale the roof. I gotta take that thing down but I’ll be damned if I do it. I need a pro with the right gear and nohow to surgically remove it. Plus they need to be young and oblivious to the concept of mortality. I’m none of these things. :)

That sounds like the one I just had taken down. Maple, huge, three trunks (3 individual trees grown together). One trunk headed straight for the roof, one trunk headed straight for the shed. I kept the center one. Definitely a job for a professional!

I have a variety very very sharp quality blades, and I know how to use them.. but you know what they say..
I don't know a whole lot about guns (obviously, as I don't own any) but I'm considering the glock 21 gen4.
I do have 2 squid double barrels though, that may double as a defense weapon and knock someone out cold!

Yeah, when you get close to the house with a tree that overhangs and leans toward the house it requires a pro. I have a big oak I'm taking down in the next few days that is only 25 feet from the house but it leans away from the house. I'm not worried about it. It would be a different story if it were leaning toward the house. There are things you can do with leaners to persuade them to fall in the direction you want but they are not particularly reliable. The pros have all the gear and experience for those tedious ones. Not worth risking a house over.

Yeah, my T Priv doubles as a weapon. OTOH, I became a gun toting grandma at 67.

Get what you're comfortable with. Don't want one that is too big or heavy. Make sure you can handle it. And practice a bit. Glocks are popular due to their light weight and reliability. Semi automatics can get jammed but Glocks have proven to be dependable. I own a .357 revolver because revolvers never jam. I load them with 38s (as opposed to .357 magnums) because there is a lot less kick. A 38 will get the job done just the same as a .357 magnum and with less kick are more defense-friendly. Think practicality when purchasing a home defense weapon.

So you're saying I shouldn't dual wield a pair of desert eagles?
I was looking at some .357 revolvers too. I'm leery at getting a semi, but like you said the glock is dependable. But a revolver is rock solid.

    Uh, no. :)

.357 can be too big for many people too...especially the ladies. Get one in your hand and swing it around to make sure you're comfortable with it. I load both 38s and .357 ammo in it. .357 to soothe my manly yearnings and 38s for common sense home defense (that's what stays in the gun at all times). Most police issue these days are Glocks.

What do you think of Ruger?

Point that thing in another direction, please !

Some while back, a few members of this thread talked about creating blogs that contained the recipes from Recipes for Dummies and Random DIY mixing and More.
I am pretty sure @Zazie did a blog for this thread. Did anyone do one for the Recipes for Dummies thread ?

I have a plain old Smith & Wesson 915 with the extended clip-- 21 shots with one in the chamber. I bought it new when I was 21 years old and have had it ever since. I lived in Miami all my life, and 45 minutes west of the city is where I played all the time, in the everglades. You get back there where there is no help you better have something on you.

    Somewhere between here and there
I bought a smith and wesson mp9c a year or so ago. I really like it. I tried the smaller mp shield but the handle moved in my hand since it’s a smaller single stack. The c holds 12+1 and I added the magazine extension to all of them so I get one extra. It’s comfortable to hold and doesn’t have a lot of kick.

Ruger is totally fine. Lots of fine handguns out there. Smith & Wesson are most expensive. You'll pay a lot more for a S&W...mostly because of the name. They have collector/resale value. But for simple home defense there are many other brands that are far more affordable. I own a Taurus revolver. S&W once owned Taurus and they shared molds. My Taurus is basically a S&W 686 without the price tag. Fine by me. I'm not a collector. I own my revolver for one reason. :)

My son is the gun lover. We go to the shooting range every now and then. I’ve thought about buying land and opening a shooting range when I retire but that’s doubtful. I don’t carry.

I didn’t accomplish as much as I would have liked yesterday but today is a new day.

I opened Mom’s minifit. I hope she has a wall outlet for charging. If not I’ll pick one up. I vape 2 mg so my juice will not be strong enough. For a heavy smoker, what mg do you think I should make her juice? I think 24 mg would be too high although that’s what I started at. I just don’t know. I want it high enough so she likes it, but not too high where she won’t like it.
