But of course, all in the name of science.

It wasn't just for Fig Newtons though. I needed to get some cat litter, butter...

......and......

.........I pray @Butch is sitting down......... I nearly ran out of COFFEE!!!
:censored:

But fear not, the coffee is securely in the house.
Don't forget to clean your pallette before trying the fig Newton's....we don't want to skew the assessment.....FN's with a hint of black coffee and cat litter.....ewwwh :D

Edit....2 mins late....bum!!

Carli loves ice cubes. A while back I held out an ice cube in one hand and one of her much loved dog treats in the other. She quickly took the ice cube.

Oh yeah, after eating a couple Fig Newton's here are the flavors and %'s I'm thinking of starting with.

JF Yellow Cake 2% (or FLV Pound Cake 1% - 1.5%)
FA Cookie (or perhaps INW Biscuit) 0.5%
FA Milk 1%
FA Fig 1.5% to 2%
INW Shisha Vanilla 0.5% - 0.75% (optional)
TPA Brown Sugar (all the FN recipes I've looked at have it) 0.5%
FA Blood Orange 0.5% ***

*** Or perhaps a zesty juicy lemon, depending on ones tastes, either will add juiciness and brighten the mix.

I will add VTA Fig (0.75% - 1%) because the two figs work well together. FA Fig will have the higher ratio.

A light touch of FA Cookie, or INW Biscuit, would be better for the cookie base than FA Vanilla Cookie. Those are more neutral. A yellow cake, as per FN recipes IRL. A FN cookie is a soft base and more cake like.

FA Milk for it's juiciness and who doesn't do cookies and milk.

This recipe looks good. Homemade Fig Newtons Recipe
She is using brown sugar. Orange zest (FA Blood Orange is zesty) plus freshly squeezed orange juice (FA Royal Orange is exactly that). Also egg yolks (FA Custard Premium or CAP Vanilla Custard v1 0.5%).

I will likely add the second orange and custard after I get the basic mix set.

Thoughts???
May not need a custard (for the egg note). Several on ELR say JF Yellow Cake already has an egg note. That's good to know.

Got 'em. And they taste as I remember. The taste of fig sits in the middle. It's not out front. I get the soft cookie taste and fig. They're well balanced.

Never thought I would be doing a mini cookie review here. Oh well, it's all in the name of Random DIY Scientific Discovery.
I appreciate your commitment to the scientific community.

I worked 40 + hours a week for 48 years(18-66) to pay my bills and support my family.
Me too (jeez you guys make many assumptions) Lived away from home since 1979... just recently (2 years ago) had to move back here (medical issue that is now resolved) Raised a son (he is now 38) It's like you all hear "I live with my mom" and get this image of a lazy person that never grew up and still lives with mom his whole life. My dad passed away just before I moved back here and mom needs help. Honestly, I would love nothing more than to get back to the mountains, work a full time job and get away from this situation. I really really didn't want to continue this topic but feel like I have to explain.

I've been reading your postings for the past year or so. I base my assumptions on those postings.

Just in case anyone should need this, you can turn them in to Janet in HR.

She lives in the middle of nowhere. We looked at lowes and Home Depot close by to her last trip, but really nothing in stock right now. We just happened across a scratch and dent unit here of her “dream stove” for less than half price. Otherwise it would have been out of our price range. All we need to do to make it look perfect is replace the handle on the bottom drawer. She asks for nothing, and really doesn’t need much, but we can give her something she’ll enjoy that she never thought she’d be able to have. I know it sounds stupid to haul a stove 6 hours, but to me it’ll be worth it when we get it in her kitchen. She’s so excited about it, and that’s all that matters
    What stove is it?

It doesn't sound stupid at all but instead very generous and thoughtful of you and your husband to drive that distance to deliver a stove to her. I was just wondering if there wasn't an easier way.

Only the dna stuff is expensive. The Ursa, Grus, thelema pod aren't very expensive. Now they are coming out with an Ursa mini with built in battery.
Would definitely have been easier to drive an hour into the city there, but this was a hard deal to pass up. I really think this one was mismarked. The salesman thought it was the much less expensive model. We really went to look at fridges, as our 20 yo one is not sounding too good.

We look like the Clampetts leaving town. Himself’s co-workers came out to have a giggle at our ride when I went to pick him up

I added more FA Fig Fresh (3 drops) to a 10ml of my existing fig cookie mix (posted the other day). There is a very noticeable difference in taste. Obviously the fig stands out more but still lays nicely in the overall mix. It is more balanced.

Then I added a couple drops of brown sugar. It added it's baking "thing" (serious bakers technical term :D). There is a big difference with versus without brown sugar. It works great with the figs. Using it this low did not introduce any sweetness. It's more of an additive or blender.

It’s a frigidaire induction top with a convection oven that has an air fryer setting. It has both self and steam clean modes, which I’ve never seen before. Her kitchen is really small, so she’s always wanted a smooth top range. The induction top doesn’t get hot, so safe for the littles when they come. Fancier than anything I’ve ever had. She’s excited about all the bells and whistles.
