For those who are interested in learning how temp control works eg TCR, TFR, CSV files etc, this is the thread to read. The math is there too as well as Evolv dna programming in escribe. A great thread to be sure.

TC beyond Ni200: Nickel Purity, Dicodes; Ti, SS, Resistherm NiFe30; Coefficient of Resistance

Some people are happy just knowing that water comes out of a faucet when they turn the handle; others need to know how the plumbing works.

What a great analogy![emoji4]

You could have overheated it a bit NoCigs or maybe your juice has a lot of sweetner.

Something helpful to remember is that just because your temp setting is at 482°f does not necessarily mean the coil is at 482°f. The coil temp can easily be 70+ degrees hotter or cooler than your temp setting if the TCR (temperature coefficient of resistance) of the coil wire doesn't match your mods' material profile. Sounds complicated but it's not once you study up a bit.
Bottom line is the crappy wire that comes from oversees many times does not have the correct TCR for it's material type. I have found some wire to be waaay off in TCR (especially SS and Ti) and have had to compensate wildly, sometimes setting temp at 350°f to keep from going burning with one supplier's 316L SS and temp settings as high as 525°f just to get a warmish vape with a different supplier's 316LSS.

A dry cotton test will tell a lot about your wire/mod combo. Dry cotton should show a very slight browning in the center of the coil with temp set to 420°f. Note: If your mod has a preheat function turn it off before attempting the test or it can cause skewed test results.

Very interesting to read. Thank you very much! Had no idea that the wire quality had any impact on how good TC works. Used wire from Zivipf.de which is of good quality it seems, but I haven't tested it with cotton yet, which I will tomorrow. Done that once before with Titanium, but where that came from I cannot remember. It got brown at ~428F.

Add: Thank you for the link too! A lot to learn, and very interesting! The juice is sweet yes.

I have had great TC results using Zivipf Ti, 430SS and Nife48.

You can also have too tight a wick. Not that frequent, but if you're doing the both ends approach that could increase the possibility.

So true, I stopped the whole pulling from both ends thing because I would get it too tight too often. It's kind of hard for me to tell exactly how much I'm getting in the coil using that technique.
I now brace the coil with my thumbnail to keep it in place while pulling the rayon through. Works better for me this way, seems like it gives better tactile feel.

Using Fiber Freaks, and I know approximately how much to cut to fit it in a 3mm coil, so I don't think it's too tight. Wish I could buy a large pack of rayon (blue package) as sold in the States, but haven't seen that in Europe.

Is shipping from the UK okay? I found a place there that did Graham's by the meter at not too bad a price.

Rayon kicks the llamas hind end and then eats kimchii for dessert.

Pull tight from each side of the coil to get the rayon stretched a bit...helps a lot. Move slowly. Like making sweet love.

I use spaced coils too. Just move extra slowly and stretch it tight. Love sweet love.

I SO like your style, Sloth'ers. ;)

That is the best way to wick small gauge spaced coils.
I've wicked soft 30g Ni200 that way without trashing the spacing.

We don't condone the use of Fiber Freaks. Might have to ask those who use it to surrender their Rayonati Status.

Sacrilegious I tell you...

Troll, would you be so kind as to remind me of the ummm....... (so shy now) double insertion method?

And what's the dealio with Fiber Freaks? Is it a non rayon product, or........ ?

I heard fiber freaks rayon is oob, that true?

FT quit selling FF's precut wicks. I found that strange as it was popular.

UK is great to order from. Doesn't take too long to get it, so yes! :) Creme De Vape sells 1 meter cuts, but the shipment is a bit pricey.

It's cellucotton, they had their own proprietary version... There was also a regular cotton/rayon blend.

So sad! :-( Looked for another option, and found a seller on ebay.co.uk from Finland, and got 23 feet for $13 incl. shipping.

AHA! This actually does make sense (the factoid that the middle of the wicking is actually the weakest part / link).

I'll give this technique a go one of these days. Thanks, gt underscore!
Get yourself one of those needle threaders, and it's a breeze.
